“Make sure you get on my good side, I don’t want to be on television looking like I just woke up… What do you mean this part isn’t televised yet? Okay, nevermind then… Hi, I’m Kurt Hummel and I’ll be auditioning for the role of… well, me, for the reality show ‘Treble in Paradise’. I am very excited to be here, especially since I love watching reality shows and I do believe that the New Directions need this to get better. Not that we’re not good now, but there’s always some things you can improve… And no, I’m not talking about my jazz hands! I think they’re a great addition to my dance moves.”
“I was told I needed to talk a little about myself, so here it goes. I’m a student at Ohio State University, where I’m majoring in Performing Arts. I know it’s not ideal and while some of the greatest artists out there started off in places like New York, I do believe that there’s something humbling about studying in Ohio. Plus, nothing is stopping me from going to New York once I’m done with my studies and make it big out there. That’s what Madonna did, isn’t that right? [a small chuckle] Plus, all of my friends stayed back in Ohio too, so, it’s not all bad.”
“What are some of my hobbies? Well, let’s see… Besides singing and performing, which are the biggest passions of my life, I do find entertainment in fashion. There’s just something about waking up in the morning and choosing your outfit for the day that makes it all a bit better. I wish I could say that it runs in my family, but my dad really doesn’t let me pick his clothes for him… My relationship with my dad? Oh, it’s great! I couldn’t have asked for a better dad than the one I have, don’t get me wrong… [another chuckle] I just wish that he could wear other something than plaid shirts…”

PLEASE TELL US THREE THINGS ABOUT YOUR LIFE BEFORE THE SHOW
“To be honest, I chose not to audition for the New Directions when I came to OSU because they didn’t have the best reputation or track record in the world of collegiate acappella. I’ve always prided myself on being a super competitive person and didn’t think it was wise to board a sinking ship. Instead, I found a brotherhood in our all-male group on campus, the Warblers. I hope this isn’t misinterpreted as hard feelings, because I still love those guys even though I’ve left the group. They’re just very concerned with tradition and hierarchy, and with that, comes favoritism. It became clear that despite my best efforts and award-winning solos, I had no shot at becoming Head Warbler. I opened up about my frustrations with my closest friend in the New Directions, Kurt, and he convinced me to take the leap. I’m happy to report I’ve yet to regret the decision. For those who gamble, I’d recommend betting big on us this upcoming year. I’m confident we have a Nationals win on the horizon – especially with me in the student director position.”
“I was all for us doing the show. For one, Treble in Paradise is sure to put us on the map. I’m a Broadway baby at heart and if the exposure and social media following leads to contract offers post-grad, I’m here for it. Anything to help me achieve my dream of moving to New York City, making a living performing, and having a cronut for breakfast every morning at Dominique Ansel Bakery. I tried one on my family’s most recent visit to the city and am still having daily daydreams about the buttery, flaky, fried doughy goodness.”
“I may not have longevity in the group, but I’m still the best fit for the job. I’m a clear frontrunner and few even come close – especially when it comes to the guys. Do you really think Mike’s going to pop and lock his way to a national championship win for us? Our student director needs to be someone who can lead with both benvelonce and aggressive ambition to propel us to the top at Nationals. This summer, we’re doing things my way and I plan to walk out of here with more points, solos, and scholarship money than any of my closest friends.”

“Three things about my life before the show? Wow, okay. I guess one of the first things that you all should know about me is I’m an avid artist. I take my sketchbook and pencil with me everywhere I go and tend to randomly draw things that I see. My favorite things to draw have to be portraits but also I’ve sat on the beach and drew the sunset, which is such a beautiful thing to draw. So, if you see me with my sketchbook, you know what I’m doing.”
“In high school, I was known as the goth girl because I loved to wear black. I went through a vampire phase and even though that may be embarrassing to some, it was definitely what brought me out of my shell a lot. I mean you’ve seen in every vampire movie how they are the top of the food chain and they have this mysterious nature about them which is what I was aiming for and definitely succeeded in that. And to this day, I embrace my goth side.”
“Joining New Directions was a spur of the moment decision but it was one of the best decisions of my life. I have met some of the greatest friends that I probably wouldn’t have met otherwise and it has given me the chance to really embrace the musical side of me that I have hidden. My mom would always tell me that I needed to be in choir during high school because she would find me singing everywhere, but now I’ve decided to embrace it and I haven’t looked back.”
