âWhatâs the worst thing thatâs ever happened since you started traveling?â
âUh, I, ooo, you really wanna know?â
âMhmm.â
âIn St. Louis, me and my friend went and did some dope at this random house and I fell asleep and woke up to like, all these like crazy black guys, like, and all of a sudden I didnât have clothes on and neither did she, and we werenât allowed to leave the house that night. Like gunpoint and shit, it was pretty fuckinâ scary.â
âThat sucks.â
âIt happens man.â
âYou made it out alive so thatâs something.â
âActually right before that, I split up with my friend Bumpkin, and he got held at gunpoint and all of his shit got robbed as well, like, the same date.â
âWhatâs the best thing thatâs happened?â
âHawaii Rainbow Gathering.â
âWhatâs that?â
âRainbow Gathering?â
âYeah.â
âItâs like... You donât know what Rainbow Gathering is?- Itâs um, a gathering of peaceful people, and thereâs an annual every year. And this year actually, the annualâs gonna be in like Maine, or Vermont, or New Hampshire. And itâs like two weeks long, everybody goes and builds a community in the woods completely like, out of like, the woods- thereâs no power tools allowed. Everybody prays for peace basically, and we build like, kitchens, and like, kid villages, and playgrounds, and stages, and all sorts of shit. Thereâs no currency allowed, and thereâs no alcohol past front gate, so everything is trading and bartering, and basically we just live out there for two weeks. You should go.â
âIâll try to. What made you want to start traveling?â
âI moved to Colorado and saw these kids with backpacks and Iâd never seen dirty kids before because I lived in Oklahoma and nobody fuckinâ travels through Oklahoma. So, I like got there, and within a week of living in Colorado I broke up with the guy that I moved there with and bought a backpack. Basically. Iâve been traveling my whole life, so, but, with like my family. So it was kinda like, I was always meant to happen upon this way of life.â
âWhat do you like most about your current way of life?â
âI do what I want.â
âWhatâs one of the hardest challenges about it?â
âMaking my mom worry.â
âHow often do you talk to her?â
âLike every three or four days. I call her every time Iâm around a phone I can call on. Or places like this when I fuckinâ have had boot rot for a week and I canât make enough money to get a new pair of shoes and new socks.â
âBoot rot... Is that like trench foot?â
âYeah, itâs kinda like that. Itâs like a bacteria that starts eating the flesh on the bottom of your feet.â
âWhatâs something youâd say youâve learned or realized after you started traveling that you didnât know or werenât really aware of before. Is there something youâve been able to take from it, specifically?â
âI guess that thereâs just like, a way of life where thereâs a way to survive off of the waste of everybody else.â
