11/5/18 - ‘Exact Match‘ Signature Laws Create Headaches In Florida Ahead Of 2018 Midterms
By Sam Calloway
As voting ramps up across the country, many are aggravated upon finding out that their state participates in signature-match rules. Florida is one such state, and the law results in headaches for many.
As reported by Mother Jones:
‘In a state with razor tight races for governor, US Senate, and many House of Representatives seats, absentee ballots rejected over signature issues could prove greater than the candidates’ margins of victory.’
Unfortunately, the party experiencing this issue is broadly on the Democratic side. which consists largely of young and minority voters. In addition, Daniel Smith, who heads the political science department at the University of Florida, states that there is no standard behind signature-match and also no experts in the area. Signature-match ballots are determined by a three-member canvassing board; three members per each of Florida’s 67 total counties.
Out of 15,765 absentee ballots, 12,261 had no signature where 3,504 had a different issue, including mismatches. You can check out what exactly the Florida statute states about exact-match when it pertains to signature-matching here.
Looking more into the issues surrounding absentee ballots and signature-match laws, one cannot help but feel that there is a level of discrimination at play, as well.
‘Ironically, absentee ballot racial disparities seemed to worsen after the notification requirement went into place in October 2016. Rather than lower overall rejection rates, Smith found young and minority voters were more likely to have their ballot rejected under the new regime.
‘White voters, however, were even less likely to have their absentee ballot rejected. The reason isn’t entirely clear, but one possibility is that minority and younger voters are concentrated in larger counties without the resources to do aggressive outreach.’
The biggest issue here is that people voting don’t know whether or not their vote has been counted. If you’re in Florida and have any concerns, click here where you can check your voter registration status, find a polling place, and check the status of your request for a vote-by-mail ballot.

11/2/18 - Trump Tweets Game Of Thrones-Style Image To Imply Iran Sanctions
By Sam Calloway
Trump has many failures thus far, in his almost three years as President of the United States. Today, he can add a new failure to the list: Marketing.
He posted a movie poster-style image, straight out of a dictatorship regime like North Korea, which reads “Sanctions are Coming. November 5.” For those who prefer their information absorption without the theatrics, he is referring to yet another reversal of Obama-era policy; reimposing Iran sanctions which were originally lifted by Obama. In addition to this being another attempt at merely reversing Obama-era policy and another trick from the pre-Midterm political stunt bag, some see the move as dangerous for Americans who are currently detained in Iran.
On Friday morning, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated:
‘On November 5th, the United States will reimpose sanctions that were lifted as part of the nuclear deal on Iran’s energy, shipbuilding, shipping, and banking sectors.
‘These sanctions hit at core areas of Iran’s economy and they’re necessary to spur changes we seek on the part of the regime. In order to maximize the effect of the President’s pressure campaign, we have worked closely with other countries to cut off Iranian oil exports as much as possible’
We aren’t here for the boring policy talk, Mr. Secretary, we’re here for the B-movie cheese.
Check out the ad for his bargain barrel movie below:
Naturally, like most overt-attempts to gain respect or amazement on Trump’s Twitter account (plus it being Friday and all) the Twitterverse wasn’t having any of it. Check out some of the silver-screen worthy replies to this ridiculous flop-job.

11/2/18 - Donald Trump Refers To US-Mexico Immigration As An “Invasion”
By Sam Calloway
Trump continues his attempts to rev up his base using harsh, ultra-right rhetoric in the final week leading up to the Midterm elections. His target the past 24 hours have been the big, bad, scary “aliens” who will be “invading” our country soon. Unfortunately, the language isn’t working and seems to be falling on uninterested ears.
Keeping it super classy, Trump has seemed to amp up his hate speech over the past 48 hours, placing special focus on talking points regarding immigration; threatening to rewrite the 14th amendment and also using deadly force upon arrival of the migrant caravan. However, as Bloomberg reports today, people aren’t buying the rhetoric and are bored by Trump’s fear-mongering:
‘So far, there’s very little evidence that it’s helping. Yes, Republicans have solidified their position in the Senate a bit, but it’s not clear that that’s due to any recent campaigning or events.’
This failed attempt at pre-Midterm talking points comes as many United States military personnel are outraged by Trump’s claims to use deadly force at the Mexico border. Yesterday in Trump’s update on the “Immigration Crisis” from the White House, he spoke sharp and pointed language about the plans for deadly force, stating in part:
‘We will not allow our generosity to be abused by those who would break our laws, defy our rules, violate our borders [and] break into our country illegally.
‘I will tell you, anybody throwing stones, rocks, like they did to Mexico and the Mexican military, Mexican police, where they badly hurt police and soldiers of Mexico, we will consider that a firearm’
Now is the Time for Men Survivors to Admit: It Happened to #MeToo
By Sam Calloway
October 2nd, 2018
I, like millions of others in the country, tuned in on Thursday September 27, 2018, to see who Christine Blasey-Ford is; what she looked and sounded like and to see if I thought she was credible. I was also curious to see what Brett Kavanaugh would say, following Ford’s remarks. I, like thousands of others across the country and world, wasn’t prepared for what Ford’s opening statement would do to me.
Listening to Ford speak in her opening statement was rough, as was the proceeding Q&A session, which lasted for hours. Like you, I watched and rode the rollercoaster with her; from her having to relive what little details she could remember and successfully articulate, to answering what her “strongest memory” is. It was at this moment, with the question posed to Ford by Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, that my own sexual assault memories came flooding back.
To be expected, by those who are at least somewhat educated with sexual assault and rape statistics, the Internet was set on fire with people’s own survival stories. The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN, for short) help hotline received such a huge influx of calls that people were having to be put on hold. RAINN later announced that they had a 147% spike in calls during, and immediately following, the Ford hearing. In the midst of this slow-running and unending train ride that is the #MeToo movement, Ford’s testimony thrusted attention back on to survivors of sexual assault and reshuffled the deck to place victims and their stories at the forefront once more. However, this time is different.
What was on display at the Senate on Thursday, September 27th was shameful, to put it lightly. Using a victim of an alleged sexual assault as a political pawn, without supportive evidence, was a disgrace. Watching old-time, Republican men elect a much younger, female prosecutor to do their bidding, only to scream at their Democratic counterparts across the aisle once given the chance to speak (I’m talking to you, Lindsey Graham). Ford admitted that she was terrified but also that she felt it was her “civic duty” to come forward. With her story, brushed aside especially on the Republican side of the line, America witnessed a true patriot who was about to unwittingly become the face of so many peoples’ own pain and trauma; people who, like Ford, have worked to forget their own sexual assault horror stories.
People like me.
Eighteen years ago, I was sixteen years old and the year was 2000. I was a confused teenager—I thought maybe I was bisexual but was beginning to lean gay. I wasn’t out to neither one of my parents and only a few, select friends. At that time, we gays didn’t have smartphones or the apps that are available today, oh no; we had to work to find and make like-minded friends. Around that time, I will admit that I did have some sexual encounters, but never intercourse. I can be honest about that, unlike that sad display we all witnessed by Brett Kavanaugh, the man who claims to “REALLY LIKE beer” but then cringes when asked about sex or blacking out (or sex while blacked out), as if to say to the Senate without using words, how dare you. I am not ashamed to admit it, I was a hormonal teenage boy. However, I would not consider myself promiscuous at that stage of my life, by even a far stretch. (See how easy that was for me, and I’m not even on a job interview. I have nothing to lose, whereas Kavanaugh has a lot on the line and still tried to sell us his devotion to his university studies and his faith, working out and abstinence.)
I eventually met an older guy named Vincent. We spent many days and nights, exchanging emails back and forth. He eventually talked me in to coming over to check out his place. I was scared at first but that quickly went away the first time I got into his car and we headed to his place; he was smiley, very attentive and responsive to my habit of talking too much. He had this weird comfort about him. Keep in mind that I wasn’t officially out, so it was nice to be able to talk freely about things I enjoyed; female musicians like Madonna and Mariah Carey or female-fronted bands like No Doubt… you know, that kind of stuff. Stuff that would have had me automatically labeled “Gay” and laughed at by the boys at my school because it seemed soft or girly and not macho enough. Vincent was my first openly gay, adult friend.
The first time I was over, we did get on the subject of sex at one point. I explained to him, when he had asked if I’ve ever had intercourse, that I had not and that I felt it was special and should be saved for that special someone. I, with rose tinted glasses, explained my fantasy of how great it will be once it is experienced with my first, true love. He said to me that that “was great,” and that it “should be sacred” and should happen “when it feels right.” I appreciated that, and it only made me more vulnerable to him. Not only did I like how cool and hip he was, but I enjoyed the conversation, talking about guys and now, my being open with him about my ideals and how I viewed intercourse as sacred. I hadn’t shared that with anyone up to that point.
What didn’t cross my mind at that time was that I was ripe-for-the-picking, naïve, fresh fruit hanging upon a tree of whimsical innocence. I didn’t even think about how I was fresh meat that had entered the lion’s den… that I was prey, being circled and about to be devoured by a shark. When you’re a teenager who is somewhat socially awkward and out-of-touch, your mind just doesn’t go there. I was more focused on being this open book to him and having him actually listen to me and I anticipated his response and his knowledge. I liked that he was 47, older and out with his sexuality. I enjoyed talking about his life experiences over our spaghetti dinner. I liked when he told me about his time in Italy and when he said lines to me in Italian (he was Italian). I just thought he was cool, and he felt like a safe place. He was also very attractive for his age. I went back over to his apartment a handful of times. In between those visits, we spent a good amount of time chatting and really building a friendship and trust.
I didn’t know then that this was all a part of his plan.
I was his underage, dirty little secret whom he was conditioning to become an easy kill. He was essentially building me up to let me down. The second-to-the-last time I was over at his apartment was when he raped me.
I remember being tired during this visit and if I remember correctly, it was kind of a late visit, about 9:00pm, give or take. I remember that he had a gigantic TV in his living room, with a surround sound system. He had put on a DVD of Madonna’s music videos for me, I laid on the couch and he said he was going to take a shower. Not too long after, he came back out and sat in a chair with only a robe on. I remember he had an erection at one point, and I remember thinking that tonight was going to be the night we fooled around. I remember being excited. We went to bed eventually, shutting down Madonna and heading into his room. I remember once the living room was shut down and before we began walking to the bedroom that it was dark. It was also dark in his bedroom… no mood lighting, just the moonlight, peering through the bedroom window from outside. Looking back at these little details now, if I weren’t so naïve then I would have taken it as a sign, a red flag.
I was laying on my stomach at one point in the middle of the night when I was awakened to him on top of me. I felt him slide his hand down the back of my boxer shorts and I asked him what he was doing. He didn’t say anything. I asked him to stop and to please get off of me. He said it was “too late now.” I then felt him trying to enter me. It was an excruciating, stretching, stinging pain. He eventually got all the way inside of me. It hurt really bad (I’ll spare the details but remember that he was Italian). I remember my mouth being wide open. I remember crying and salivating, but I also remember that I was omitting no noise, like a silent shout of muted cries. It didn’t last long, but it felt like forever.
I remember being numb while I was entered without invite and looking up at the window above the bed and seeing the moonlight that creeped a line of space inbetween the blinds and onto the pillow. I remember smelling his heavy breath on my neck, coming from behind. I remember his groans and his piercing, painful thrusts.
Once it was over, he said “go take a shower.” It was a command and not his typical, seemingly compassionate demeanor that I was used to. In just one moment immediately after being violated, I was downgraded to a meaningless fuck puppet.
I remember crying in the shower and biting the meat of the palm of my right hand to try and muffle myself. I remember watching blood trickle down my right inner thigh and down the drain. I remember feeling like I couldn’t get clean. When I was done showering and dried off, I eventually manned up, opened the bathroom door back to the bedroom, and crawled into bed.
That night and the next day I don’t remember either of us saying anything. Once I was home, I showered again.
And then again. I could not be clean.
I didn’t tell anyone and for a lot of reasons.
First, I wasn’t out so how could I possibly tell people I was raped by a man… let alone a 47-year-old man. Second, I felt guilty-- It was my fault it happened because it was my fault for hanging out with him to begin with. Also, I went to bed and had messed around with him, which might have sent the wrong signal so dammit, I got what I deserved.
Two weeks after the rape, I took a bus to his apartment. I don’t know what I thought I was going to do, I guess confront him and tell him how I felt? To my shock, he didn’t live there anymore. The apartment was empty. He had moved. It hit me right then that he was probably a serial rapist and that there were likely other victims. But I was paralyzed in my own guilt and I couldn’t tell anyone because it was my fault. I rationalized that it’d be too big of a burden for anyone to take on… for my mom and dad. Not only was I gay, but I was raped by a man who is older than my parents.
I dealt with this secret, took on this burden and this blame for two years, but not before I began doing coke, ecstasy, acid and abusing over-the-counter medications.
Not before I began drinking hard alcohol.
Not before I began huffing aerosols.
Not before I became promiscuous.
Not before multiple suicide attempts.
During my teenage and early adult years, I didn’t care. I liked that every day was a game of Russian roulette because I had no self-worth and didn’t care if I lived to see another day or not.
For the rest of my life, from age 16 and forward, I’ve dealt with intimacy and trust issues.
That is my story of rape and, unfortunately, Christine Blasey-Ford’s story is my story.
There are similarities in that my rape was years ago (18 years), where Ford’s alleged assault was 36 year ago. I don’t have any evidence, other than my word, however, like Ford, I would have corroborating witnesses who could attest for my telling them about my rape two years later when I was eighteen.
Because there is no evidence, it doesn’t invalidate my experience.
To the people who have said that Ford isn’t credible because she waited for 36 years; Saying she “waited” is not a luxury that she was afforded, trust me. She has spent 36 years, based on her testimony last Thursday, trying to forget about her assault by burying it. And when she wasn’t attempting to bury it, she was trying to work through it by sharing her experience with her husband, her psychiatrist and a few close friends.
I wish that we, as sexual assault and rape survivors, do just wait.
What Ford did, coming before the Senate and some 20-million viewers worldwide (and those were early viewership estimates), took real courage.
Simply just sitting around “waiting” to use something so vile and soul-crushing would be a gift.
What we sexual assault survivors really do is hope. We hope that if we don’t give the traumatic experience anymore life, it’ll just go away and suddenly cease to exist. We hope that we will get better and not continue to let our triggers completely paralyze us and/or sabotage us. We hope that our assailants don’t do what they did to us, to others. We hope we can curate real, meaningful connections, both intellectually and physically, with our partners. We hope we can get out of bed and make it through each new day.
While in the grand scheme of things I’m not exposing a potential Justice, who is applying to serve a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court of the United States, and I’d proudly describe myself to you as a nobody, I refuse to make myself fully believe that. I’ve done that for eighteen years. Sexual assault survivors aren’t nobodies, and that kind of self-deprecating language is only a small part of the many reasons why we don’t report or come forward in the first place. It is a toxic, useless thought that falls under the broad, unfortunate umbrella of what life is like, being a survivor. Considering ourselves’ unimportant and as nobodies comes from a place of self-hatred and worthlessness… a sort of safe place we’ve all been comfortable in for far too long.
We aren’t nobodies and all of our stories matter, regardless of how people will try and water them down or brush them aside as unimportant or small. Or in Ford’s case, where her story is being exploited as politically motivated. Those are all subconscious excuses that become realized by people who are either in denial or have no idea what it’s like to be sexually victimized and violated.
There is never an inappropriate time to come forward with your story. 18 years or 36 years later, there’s never been a better time to transition from a victim to a survivor.
My story matters and so does yours.
To say we “wait” when what we’re really doing is seeking and holding onto hope, is an insult.

October 2018 Update!
Hello all. Figured I’d write a quick update to let you know what’s happening this month :-)
In light of the #MeToo movement (which I never thought I’d ever participate in, by the way) and the Christine Blasey-Ford/Brett Kavanaugh senate hearing on Thursday, September 27, I have decided to write about my survival story. I will be posting that here soon, so please keep an eye out.
In addition, I am also looking forward to begin the process of writing and getting published my own life story as a “based on a true story”-type novel. I’ve contemplated doing this for years and years and have recently found myself very inspired by reading, hearing and viewing other people’s stories this past month. It has been a very powerful end-of-summer and fall thus far, that’s for sure!
In regards to the name change (lol) for those of you who know me personally, I am engaged and have been for quite some time. As part of my separation from my past, I felt inclined to (un)officially take on my fiancé’s last name. It was the right thing to do and the timing for us could not be more perfect.
If you follow me on Twitter, I have a new account now (which you can see off to the left side of your screen) which can be accessed here: twitter.com/realsamcalloway. Eventually I will shut down the previous account (therealsambone).
With schooling, I am back at American Public University and back with my Homeland Security studies and the Global Studies Department! While I am grateful to have been accepted into the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, I felt it best for me to stay put with my current line of focus: homeland security and emergency management/response.
Also, within the past month, I joined the National Criminal Justice Honor Society after being invited and I also received an invite (but did not join) from the Golden Key International Honour Society.
That’s all for this month, thanks for your support, for following and for reading. Please stay tuned for my essay about my sexual assault, which will drop later tonight.

June 2018 Update!
At this time, I am no longer available to hire for special projects. I will consider contributing writer roles (op-ed, politics, human rights, investigative), please see Contact Me for more information.
I recently made the decision to dive, head-first, in to my university studies and opportunities surrounding that, as well as my career. In doing so, I made the ultimate decision to put a stop to all online, extra-curricular projects including Brody Dalle Chronicles (www.brodydallechronicles.com) as well as my (unannounced) planned, upcoming art project, MNTCHP.
I just don't have the availability in my schedule right now to dedicate myself to you for design/web/marketing projects. Currently, I aspire to do more (and further develop my) writing.
In April 2018, Calloway's Candles (www.callowayscandles.com) also officially closed for business, which ended my marketing/design/web/relations work there.
For now, you can follow me on Twitter @SAMBONESAMBONE as well as view my profile on LinkedIn, here, for updates.
Check back soon as my page here will be rebranded to apply to the current state.
The future is bright so stay tuned for later developments!

The Flytraps on Opening for The Distillers, All Their New Fans & Tequila
By Sam Bone
Social media is fucking amazing and, in some cases, can lead to ‘mind-blown’ moments—Checking out a live show for a band that’s piqued your interest, combined with the option to stalk prey on social media like a salivating, hungry wolf, circling a potential kill.
The story goes that this is how Brody Dalle wrangled up the Los Angeles-based band, The Flytraps. Understanding and enjoying a band and then metaphorically passing on notes with scribbled hearts along with “Call Me” underneath, eventually led to the band being tapped to open for The Distillers reunion and return to the stage after 14 years.
In a nutshell and to recap:
Iconic female-fronted punk band from the 2000’s reunites and announces a short, six-date tour.
It’s been 14 years since the bands’ members were all in the same room, “plugged in” together.
Most of the tour sells outs 24 to 48 hours after it goes on sale.
Fans ask themselves: is this real life?
I chatted with The Flytraps’ Elizabeth Boyd in early April this year, and to say that she, along with her band, were “boggled” about the request to support The Distillers is a complete understatement; Was it some type of critical error? Was someone playing a super-fucked up prank? Did someone miss hear the word “Flytraps” when the actual band requested was The “Flatjacks?” (If this is a real band in existence, I’m sorry-- Not for the reference to your band, but for the fucked-up name.)
The truth is that they were sought after by Brody Dalle herself. I had to reassure Beth’s palpitating heart that Brody handpicks her support. It’s not an oopsy-doopsy... it’s a female Uncle Sam, pointing at your band attentively while declaring “I WANT YOU.” And, the odds are likely .0748 out of 1,000,000 that Brody Dalle would pluck your band off the Los Angeles Female-Fronted Band Tree.
A few days after the tour concluded and The Flytraps departed Dallas back to Los Angeles, I had the chance to chat with the band about their time with The Distillers, the reception by the sold-out audiences and the band’s promising future.
BDC: Sam Bone | K: Kristin (Lead Vox, Bass) | BB: Beth (Lead Guitar) | FR: Fabian (Drums) | CY: Chloe (Rhythm Guitar)
BDC: To start and in keeping with the current chaos, what are your guys’ current feels and how has that changed since The Flytraps were formed in 2010?
BB: Our sound has changed a lot in the last 8 years and we’ve also had a few lineup changes as well. Compared to some of the old stuff, the songs are faster, heavier, and nastier than ever.
K: Well when we started the band I would say we sounded more like if The Mummies and The Pleasure Seekers had a blood orgy. Now we are more like if Suzi Quatro had KISS as prisoners in her Sex Dungeon. But one thing has been a constant since day one: ROCK & ROLL OR FUCK OFF!
BDC: What was it like touring with The Distillers; how was the reception from their fans?
BB: Touring with The Distillers really seemed to be a turning point for us and it was a crazy experience playing to their sold-out crowds. We got a great response from their fans and definitely made a lot more of our own. We are so grateful to have been invited to open for them and had a great time hanging out with the band and crew.
FR: It was amazing, and the fans were more than we could ask for. Everyone was very welcoming and nice to us.
BDC: Any funny or over-the-top memories you want to share from the tour?
K: It wouldn’t be very smart to reveal how over the top we get… all I can say is we are out-doing ourselves constantly.
BB: Probably a few that shouldn't be shared, haha.
BDC: I noticed that your catalog contains one full-length (She-Freak, 2013) and then sporadic releases of singles/EPs. I know the music business can suck and it’s tough to maximize and stretch a buck; How do you guys handle that and how can you make more money (so us fans know the best way to support you)? How has this changed (-or stayed the same?) since 2010?
K: In the beginning, almost everything we did was self-released and in limited numbers; Recorded in a garage done by us or a friend. We've released several demo albums such as Worst Coast and Demos from the Deep. She-Freak was released by our friend Cumstain and his Oakland-based tape label Slop Bop. Since then we’ve just released a 7” on Outro Records and a 12” EP “Sunset Strip R.I.P.” on our label Power Plant Records, split with our friends from Burger. We have all of this and other weird shit for sale on our website. Also, we will be releasing Vol. 2 of our foot fetish calendar Flytraps Foot Feast this winter.
BB: Buying our merch definitely helps out a lot, especially when we are on tour.
BDC: Keeping about sales, I chatted with Beth off-and-on during April and May, she said you guys sold through merchandise at an unexpected rate at The Distillers shows. That has got to feel awesome. Did you anticipate that level of reception?
CY: No, we didn’t at all-- We ran out of shirts half way through the tour! We didn’t expect so much support.
BB: Wish we had brought more! We sold out of shirts I think before our last show and completely out of vinyl by the end.
BDC: Kristin, I read in an old OCWEEKLY interview that the po-pos used to frequently stop by your old rehearsal space and tell you to simmer it down. If you could run in to those same cops today, what would you say?
K: When the cops would come to our practices they were usually surprised to see me answer the door because we were all beach rats, had no air-conditioning and we would usually be in bikinis. The cops were pretty cool about it. If I saw them today I would probably say SUP?
BDC: What are your thoughts about Burger Boogaloo in June? I mean c’mon now—John Waters, DEVO, Mudhoney and The Mummies! I read somewhere that The Mummies are one of your band’s influences. Have you met them before and if not, are you prepared?
BB: Russell Quan from The Mummies is an old friend of ours. We have played with a couple of his bands before, but this will be our first time playing with The Mummies!
K: We are so stoked to be on Boogaloo this year, it's an insane line-up. You forgot to mention The Damned!! Whoever doesn't have their tickets better get to it because it’s for sure gonna sell out!
BDC: Speaking of insane line-up—how do you handle nerves? Do you get nervous? Do each of you deal with it differently and/or is there that one member of the band who balances everyone out?
K: I get more excited than nervous. Pre- show I’ll get a burst of adrenaline… It’s better than any drug, but drugs can make it even better!
CY: Tequila
BB: I haven't figured that one out yet… Sometimes, on stage, I will just stare at one person until they seem to feel uncomfortable and it will make me feel better.
FR: Booze tons of it. Yeah, I still get nervous before every show, I think we all do. I've noticed I become quieter. Just depends on the head space I'm in.
BDC: Oh, and curious—pre-show rituals? Please explain.
K: Usually passing around a bottle of tequila and praying to our patron saint, Rosemary Kennedy; JFK’s sister who was lobotomized at 23.
FR: Getting all dolled up together.
BDC: I feel that we're all about to witness a real revolution when it comes to female rock musicians, and as a male who happens to be a hardcore feminist, I'm all-fucking-for-it. What are your thoughts on being musicians in this Pussy-Grabber-in-Chief Era? I just read how the Trump admin is cutting Federal funding to clinics who deal with women's health. With the stage as a platform, and girls and guys looking up at you with shimmering eyes, do you feel any obligation to revolt or speak out?
K: Pussy-grabbing has been going on behind the scenes for a long time, in politics and show business. It’s finally coming to light because now is the time for truth and progress. We are so lucky to be born in this current age where we can be ourselves and make our own rules.
BDC: What is next for you guys? What can fans anticipate? What's the future hold?
K: We have a lot of things happening; New videos, more records, more tours. We’re playing a new festival in Twentynine Palms, California in October called The Pilgrimage Campout. Keep a look-out. We're comin’ for YOU!

Nov. 2017 Update!
Hey all!
My new online store and community launched on October 30! You can view my newest business endeavor here: Bone Closet.
In other news, I’m still enrolled at American Public University (APU) studying for my bachelor in marketing and a concentration in internet & web. Next week, in addition to those regular, ongoing studies, my fiance and I are taking a Google Adwords crash course! (I am working on getting Google Adwords Certified, he is not but wants to learn how to excel his business too, so he’ll be my +1 for the course/s!)
On Bone Closet, I am in the process of interviewing International Psychic Healer and Medium Lyndsey Paul so that’ll be something to look forward to very soon! The interview will be run sometime in the next few weeks, ideally before Thanksgiving.
Happy Holidays and as always, stay tuned!
-Sam

Misc. Times Interview with Sam Bone, September 10th, 2007
After the gradual breakdown of the Distillers, at the height of their fame, Brody and the boys went away for a while. The fan boy and fan girls have been eating up any information the band will let out, which isn't much. But a couple months ago we reported about an official break up. Our source, the forums and a mysterious quote about a ‘spider eating the Distillers.’ Since then, the spider has been as identified as Brody Dalle-Homme and Tony Bradley's new band. Four years since their last album, 2 new members, a baby, and one new surname and the band is now ready to get in the studio under a new moniker, Spinnerette. In compliance with Distiller-fan-tradition, there is bound to be some great fan sites up. We talk with Sam from the first of them and what looks to be a very promising one, the Spinnerette Chronicles Hey, so why don't you tell us what the Spinnerette Chronicles is. The Spinnerette Chronicles is a fan site that I am doing for Brody's new band, Spinnerette. I have been doing promotion for Brody (Distillers to now) since about 2002. It all started with word of mouth and then it became flyer artwork. I really do like to believe that I was one of the first people to really whore the Distillers, along with Heather (the infamous brody.tk), and Claire (distillers.clairebear.com). I remember back when Distillers had a slot on the International Coverup as well. We were all members there, weren't we? There was a guy named Scooby who I also caught the attention of... Back when Coral Fang was released, a proper "Street Team" was garnered up as well. One that didn't last... but he called me more than once to hear what I had to say about that. I also caught the attention of Machete Mfg. I received a very odd phone call from someone who worked at the merchandise company, who asked very odd questions like "Why are you buying ALL Distillers merchandise? Why are you buying in bulk? Why are you spending near $400? Where did you get this money?" Later on I started to think it was one of Tim's "homies" who made that call. After all, it was the Distillers I was spending hard-earned cash on, and not Rancid. Haha. Why do you think the band has changed the name? I think Brody pretty much answered that question-- With the Distillers, she was a lot younger. Now that she's matured a lot more, is a mother and has a family, I think the transition just came naturally... plus I guess after time, I'd just get boring to see and hear the same things.... Well, what is up with the new band? Well like I have said publicly a few times; as much as I sometimes feel like an insider; I am not one! Brody and I don't talk as much now that she is a) busier with the new record, b) a momma now, and c) on tour with QOTSA. As she has stated, she is on tour with the Queens until sometime in August, when she will resume the record-making process. She's a one-woman army, taking on enough tasks to surely break the average person! What kind of features will this site have? Forums? (we all know those Distillers fans love forums) I am not sure. As funny as this might sound, I am not a pioneer at website making. The two main things I have going for me are 1) image design and graphic art, and 2) talking to Brody. Hopefully the main focus will be "hear-it-first" type news. You may or may not remember that I was talking about Spinnerette long before thedistillers.com was transformed into the Spinnerette site. I also knew she was pregnant before the world did, and I am still amazed that she (Brody) trusted me like that. I am a person of honesty. I did tell her that it was between her and I. I knew about the pregnancy since May 2005. So back to the point, news will be the main focus. I will be having a team of webmasters and webmistresses helping me out... so it will be nothing like what's out there now, I will tell you that. So Brody joked around saying that her fans from her Distillers days have finally grown up and are now around 20. How would you describe the average Distillers/Spinnerette fan? The average fan? Hmm. What I love about fans of Brody's work (Distillers and anything else) is that they come from all different walks of life-- No matter who you are (male, female, gay, straight, confused, black or white) you can easily find a common ground. Even with age-- you see high school kids and you see people in their 20's, 40’s, and even 50’s. I think you could point out the fans that have been there since the beginning. As Brody said... they are all in their 20s by now and older. Some people are just now discovering albums like "Coral Fang." The fans are really cool, too. I've met some really awesome people at Distillers shows. Any additional comments on your site or the band? Yes. There are many, many, many fans on Spinnerette's Official MySpace, and not so many have added TSC. Add me! The site is set for a Halloween launch and can currently be found at their myspace. -Flashii

2008 - “Brody Dalle Chimes In On Punk & The Spinnerette Chronicles’ Sam Bone!”

An interesting blog discussion took place on Spinnerette’s official message board regarding what it is to be “punk.”
The conversation included the participation of my good friend, Sam (web owner of the up-and-coming, The Spinnerette Chronicles), Spinnerette’s front woman, Brody Dalle, and a handful of Hot Topic-consuming, so-called “punks.”
Apparently the definition of “punk” was reduced to nothing more than sexual profanities. The best part of this forum discussion is not Dalle’s response to the haters, but her siding with my friend Sam! Though her message is explicit in nature (rightfully and deservingly so, I might add), she definitely stands her ground, and perhaps forces, once and for all, her legion of negative-Nancy’s to finally keep their big, fat mouths shut!
Here’s what she said:

“I’m still a punk . i like it in the ass too……. does that mean i’m an “OG” punk ? cos i really want to clear this up. If sammy is the real deal so am i .i’m a straight woman gay man woman .

We’re mixing the record right now . We have “the best management cool can buy” .Hold on to your panties/diapers cos your gonna shit . And btw all the real “scummer, garbage eating, dope/meth slamming /snorting, street sleeping PUNKS” don’t sit on there fucking mum’s/dad’s/schools/friends/ fucking computer and bitch and moan like little babies .

It should be noted that Sam has worked directly for Dalle’s label in the past, and continues to do so but in a less-hands-on sort of way.
He’s an avid supporter and self-promoter of her musical endeavors, and is well known in the Distillers and Spinnerette communities.
I cannot imagine what he felt like to have read a public approval from one of his top, living inspirations.

SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES Becomes "Official" Per Dalle’s Canadian Record Label, SRO-ANTHEM.
Mega Brody Dalle Fan Site SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES Goes 'Official'
On December 8, 2008 the SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES received official status in direct accordance with Brody Dalle herself.
As of today, the SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES is the only recognized, official fan site for Dalle's new band, Spinnerette.
Though the SPINNERETTE CHRONICLE's journey has been relatively short--debuting in May 2007--this announcement serves as the culmination of nearly seven years of dedicated promotion and support for Dalle's career.
"When I heard that Brody herself gave the OK for my site to be known as the 'official site' I was in total shock," said Sam Bone, creator of the SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES.
The official status is only the beginning in a series of events to launch and brand the SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES as the only official fan site for Dalle and her musical projects.
The SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES is currently in talks with SRO Management of Anthem Records to devise a plan of action to further develop the breadth of an official fan site. Further details will be released as they come in.
For the SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES, learning and understanding what it means to be official is critical.
"The SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES has always been a fan site for the fans, from the fans," said Bone. "This always has been and will always remain my number one goal."Tentatively, increasing awareness about Spinnerette remains paramount as well as finding additional avenues to get the fans involved more hands-on.
An official domain for the SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES is set to launch on Valentine's Day 2009.

More about the SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES
The SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES debuted in May 2007 as an underdeveloped fan project with the motto, "Spinning you to Death". Initial conversations with Brody Dalle began in 2005 at a Queens of the Stone Age show she was attending in support of her husband--the lead singer for the band. The countless e-mail conversations quickly lead to an Internet relationship that Dalle used to her advantage. By leaking news bits and key pieces of information regarding Dalle's new lineup and band, the SPINNERETTE CHRONICLES was born.
