âI really am a sweetheart.â
She looked at him with the most genuinely innocent look that the demon who was Widowmaker could muster. If anyone knew any better, they might have thought that she was actually this perfect little sweetheart that couldnât ever hurt a fly.
In a sense, it worked to her advantage. But here, there was no need to hide or to pretend.
âI caught you right after your shower, and yet you bothered to cover yourself up.â, the clicking of nails against the porcelain of her cup âWhat a shame. Maybe I should have come even earlier and caught you in the shower.â, she watched him dead on after making that comment, not one ounce of regret on her face while staring the man down, daring him to be flustered and shy away from the piercing golden gaze.
Widowmaker was one to always test, to try things out, to see how far she could push the envelope, and with him it was no different. She enjoyed the challenge thoroughly, and when the opportunity presented itself, she took it upon herself to make the best of it. Sure, they had flirted here and there, most times just to piss off the recruits who were way too infatuated with one or the other - though she swore up and down that Reaper had a God damn cult following, while she remained as nothing more than their secret, deep dark wet dream that got them by during cold nights and long missions.
Whichever worked, one would say.
âYou donât need to dress up for me. It makes it feel so proper, non?â
As she asked that last question, the woman silent shifted from her chair towards him, that same cup of coffee, now half empty, in her hand, but instead of joining him to sit on the edge of the bed, she walked over to the window, one finger slowly pulling the heavy curtains aside so that she could glance out the window as the steady rain cried rives on the rooftops.
âAll this rain, and it canât wash away the filth of this worldâŚâ
A slight snicker would escape Gabriel when she made that statement and gave him that âinnocentâ look. It was cute in a way, that she was trying to play the part of a sweetheart who couldnât harm anyone even if she tried. Especially when he knew that she was more than capable of taking out anyone who dared to cross her path the wrong way, she was quite the terrifying woman when it came down to the cold hard facts. That being said, there was nothing wrong with that, anyone could appreciate a woman who could play the part of innocence while still being able to ruthlessly kill. Atleast, he could appreciate that.
He was about to call her bluff on the innocence act when she spoke up once more, and in turn she had earned a raised brow from him for a brief second. He wasnât quite sure if she was just playing a game of flirting with him, of testing his limits, or if she was sincere in the statement. However, he was not going to be outclassed at this game, if thats what she was doing. He was a competitive man by nature, and he wouldnât dare to let himself get flustered over such a thing. Instead, his lips would twitch into a smirk, gaze not daring to leave hers.
âPerhaps you should have arrived earlier. It wouldnât have been too much of a hassle had you caught me in the shower.â
A slight hint of amusement was in his voice as he spoke. This was nothing the two of them werenât used to, they often did this sort of thing in public anyways, there was no harm in them doing it here and now. Of course, once would assume that private flirtations meant something, but it didnât have to. Or rather, Gabriel paid no mind to it and saw it as Widow simply toying with him for the fun of it. Trying to push his buttons and get back at him for having been gone so long.
She was right though, there was no need for him to be so proper in her company. She had seen him bleeding out and taken care of him, if anything she was probably one of the few people he could find himself being less than proper around. Someone he could be comfortable around. A silent recognition to her statement, no words were needed, he slid his overcoat off his shoulders with ease, letting it fall back onto the bed. Comfortable was what he was looking for, and as much as he adored that coat of his and loved wearing it, it was an unnecessary hassle to wear it in this moment.
Gaze would cautiously follow the woman as she moved across the room, and he in turn would stand, and make his way over to stand by her. And for a brief moment, he felt strange in his actions- Arm almost daring to wrap around her, fingers almost daring to reach out to rest on her waist, as if it were something he would have done years ago. As if it were something that felt right to do in the moment, maybe it was the closeness they shared when combined with the long time apart, the rain falling, it was weird- atleast for him it was. He instead, chose to rest his fingertips against the glass, watching the rain in silence.
âYou say that and yet. I donât believe the world will ever be cleansed. Not when vile people exist within it.â Tone would sharpen towards the end, and while he did not say it, he was certainly referring to himself with that statement. Referring to what he had become, who he was now. When had he become so soft around her as to speak his mind for once? He wasnât sure. âItâs not all that bad though, I suppose. Hell, maybe there could still be some good in the world, I doubt it but anything is possible.â
