Graded Unit :Research
Really like these altars. Both different but are both outside in the natural environment, which sets a completely different tone to the piece. Something to consider for the project.

Rondle West
Inspo For Graded Unit.
Love the use of unifying the multiple objects with a single color.
Artists makes use of toys and his work ,
Inspiration For some Developmental Work.
I will be experimenting with a variety of different shrines for development work with a different subject for each. The above are inspiration images for which I wanted to make a tacky, girly shrine. Pink and purple tones are key.
Laurie Beth Zuckerman
Graded Unit Contextual Research
Main inspiration for the project. Love her use of color by using multiple objects which are similar shades. Her work has an ‘overly- done’ look to it which gives the work a more ‘obsessive’ vibe .This is a similar manner that I too wish to work with. I will experiment with colour and material and will experiment with using materials with similar tone.
Graded Unit Research
More Inspiration.
Making use of small religious statues or lower image and rich embellishment on the upper image.
Research For Graded Unit:
Mexican Inspired shrines. Shrines in the second image are referred to as ‘Nichos’.
Use of color and pattern are key element. Shrine is usually based around photographic image.
Initial research for Graded unit.
Looking at shrines and assemblage boxes

Final For Major Project
*Audio to be played whilst reading the text that follows:
Allow the sounds to melodize
Each union of wool and flesh
The hand weakens whilst the drive exceeds
Allow your mind to embrace in trance
Release your everything in one fine motion
-And repeat

Evaluation Major Project
Going into the project my aim was to push myself and my boundaries as an artist and as a person.Taking into consideration the daily tasks of the everyday life and looking towards my own life and routine for inspiration. I knew this project would be very demanding and would include acts of discipline and endurance.
I started the project with a video of myself slapping my leg. The video was to last an hour but ended up only lasting 10 minutes. After performing the task I came to realize the task meant more than physical contact but included the element of sound and irritation due to the contact of my hand against my wool trousers.
I continued to document my mental progress throughout the project and felt that the project became more of a self-journey. I experimented with text based work and based on my moods regarding the project as well as my everyday behavior.
I felt I was at crossroads a lot throughout this work and kept referring to writing as a form of research and documentation. I was happy with a couple of text works I did throughout the project and felt I should take this further as my final outcome.
At the beginning of the project I thought my ‘Slap’ Video would only be my starting point but I ended up feeling that; like myself at the end of the project,I was not a completely different person nor artist yet I had learnt a great deal and came so far so I decided it felt right to take the initial video and analyse further. The end result is a manipulation of sound taken from the ‘Slap’ video as well as a text based work to be read by the viewer whilst listening to the recording.
Overall I feel I went on a personal journey with this work where I allowed my work to become based on where I felt I was at the time I was doing it .I tried to look at the project as intently as possible looking at as many different approaches as I could making use of variety of different techniques including: text, video, sound and performance. If given more time I would have probably looked towards the element of an audience in a non-artistic venue such as in public spaces or confined areas.
Edward Burtnsky creates these visually beautiful, manipulated landscapes. They bring forward my idea of a continuous motion ad repetitive action which i find really appealing.

Poem based on repetitive slap motion on my leg

I really like the works of Jenny Holzer. She almost forces the viewer to read her thoughts/opinions since they can’t avoid it. I find it really powerful being shown the words in an unusual way.

Was thinking about different ways of presenting my poems. When i daydream i usually look up at the wall or outside the window. I thought these would be really exciting places to show my poems since they relate to the idea.
