I made a point to burn all of the photographs….
“Yeah. B’cause that’s better.”
''It's my name, jackass. It's the only name you'll get from me at least.''
- nineandrunning & glxnda have joined the revolution
''Hey, do you want to join the protest? We need more people.''
"Sure, sweets."
''Less of the sweets. Name's Rebel.''
”Yeah I’m a fucking charmer. But you made me. So I’m whatever the hell you want.” He smirked, feeling pretty proud of himself. ”You want anything? Drink?”
''I don't want you at all. I was okay. I was coping. I wish I'd never heard of you.'' She frowned, shaking her head in slight disbelief. ''No. No I don't want anything from you. Please just...shut up.''
”Yes, ma’am. Have I mentioned how much I love it when you get bossy?” The teasing didn’t let up for a moment, it rarely did with him. But he let his expression turn a little softer as he injected the drug enjoying the reaction it got from her.
''That means so much, Coming from someone who doesn't fucking exist.'' She sighed heavily, relaxing into her seat. Jesus Christ, what was she doing? Suddenly, she didn't care too much at all.
He smirked, quirking a brow. “Ohhh there is, but in the future you lot vacate this planet and live on— Humans certainly know how to survive.” He glanced around as he mused then looked at her again. The timelord flipped the bottom of his jacket out and stuck his hands in his pockets. “New New York, on New Earth. Well technically it’s the sixteenth New York since this once, but the point still stands. New New York is revolutionary. It’s had it’s hiccups… as all major cities do, but it redefines the idea of letting your freak flag fly. And there are less rich kid hipsters from New Jersey and more artists who are no longer struggling. And the whole city is eco friendly.” He paused then shrugged nonchalantly, “I could bring you there for a visit if you’d like.”
''Vacate the planet, right,'' Rebel laughed with a slight shake of her head. She listened to him with a look of bemusement as he spoke, but smiled gently at the idea of non-struggling artists, now that was too good to be true. ''I think you're crazy, just know that, an eco-friendly, artist inclusive New York? Crazy. But if you say you can show me, then sure. God knows I'd like to see that. But how? I mean, come on, you're talking about the future, how do you know this stuff?''
He shook his head quickly, not in denial of her welcome but at her insinuation that he didn’t enjoy the anger. In truth, he loved it all — the red-faced passion of it, the steadfast demanding, the refusal to be ignored. It was like nothing he had ever seen before, really. In school, he was often punished for voicing opinion. In church, he was expected to listen quietly, not ask. There was no r o o m in his life for debate. But these people, they fought against that philosophy. They didn’t ask for answers, they demanded them. And so it was with true sincerity that he replied to her.
"I love it. The anger. They deserve to be angry! I’m glad they’re showing it!”
Why was there always a want to explain? Strong emotion was always shamed — Lust was quelled and branded sinful, Sadness hidden and called a burden, Anger ridiculed and considered ugly. Well, Melchior saw it all quite clearly. There was d i v i n i t y in lust, and a perfect humanity in sadness; there was beauty in anger. Why try to hide it, or explain it away?
Her next words were far too patronizing for his tastes. He gave her the best, most mature smile he could. Being treated like a child was absolutely intolerable. There was m o r e than enough of that at school. He didn’t need that here, at the antithesis of home.
”I don’t think I need protecting … But thank you for the thought. And I wouldn’t mind sticking with you, Either way. So thanks for that, too.”
She couldn't help but smile at his response, and give a slight raise of her eyebrows. He was interesting at least, and confident too. It made a change from most visitors to this area. Rebel nodded softly and shrugged, ''Well, I'm glad you think so. Since, it's pretty rare we're not fired up over something or other. I mean, fuck, it's New York. everyone's fighting something.'' A small smirk played on her lips as he spoke again. He didn't seem much younger than her, but he did look around the same age that she had been when she first moved to New York. Perhaps a little older, but close at least. And with his slight attitude, she had already begun to see a little of herself in him. ''Yeah I think I'm starting to see that. The whole, 'I don't need protecting' thing that is. But y'see. We're all fighting the same cause. So we all look out for each other. And our cause, it goes w a y beyond this building and the jackasses trying to take it from us. We're not seen as important to them, no one is. There is no such thing as society, if there was then we wouldn't be facing homelessness with no one giving a shit but us. That's what we're gonna change. And you're welcome to join us, if you want?'' She smiled, a few people behind her supplying approving statements and cheers as she looked almost expectantly, at Melchior.
"What you mean-" Taken aback Tunny turned to look at the group of protesters again and the building they had all gathered in front of. "No shit? But.. they can’t do that! How come I only heard about this now?"
While asking this he moved to face the girl again, only just then noticing the hand offered to him. Quicky he grabbed a hold of her and and shook it firmly, but with a small grin on his face.
"My friends call me Tunny." The grin grew wider. "You?"
''You're not too far behind, we were only told a couple of days ago and we live in the damn place,'' she chuckled slightly with a shake of her head. ''But we're going to give them hell before we give up our home. Do you want to join us?''
She smiled as she shook his hand, ''Tunny, nice to meet you. You can call me Rebel, are you from around here? I don't think I've seen your face before.''
