These single LI books are getting out of hand. I mean that's the most basic choice a player should get in in cya app. If you don't like the LI we're stuck with them.
The least they could do is make the single love interests…well, interesting, and likable. But instead we end up with toxic/problematic love interests like Sam and Reagan, or we end up with shitty relationships with the most forced chemistry possible (I still feel so bad for Cassian for how bratty the MC was).
Like I’ve said many times, I think the only single love interest story that was actually good was With Every Heartbeat, and that was because I really liked Dakota. I didn’t even like them as a love interest: I liked them as a character, and their story made me root for them and want to see them succeed and achieve their dreams. But even then, there are still people who aren’t that fond of Dakota, which I get. They’re still a single love interest.
If we got only a couple single love interest stories every now and then I would understand. But now they’re definitely out of hand like you said. PB is cutting corners to push out the most generic, boring, bland, uninspired, and sometimes even toxic love interests.
And even worse, it’s working, which is why they keep doing it. WHY is it working??? I personally prefer my love interests with personality, backstories, and quirks. Anything that makes them interesting, basically. That’s why I totally adore love interests like Tom Sato, Andy Kang, Sonia Alves, Lily Spencer, and so on.
We used to get four, five, hell, sometimes even six love interests in a story, and you know what else? Most of them were actually likable. I wanted to get to know them and see them grow as characters. But nowadays we usually only get one or two and they often feel like cheap copies of other love interests, or they’re simply boring or toxic. WTD is the exception right now: we have four love interests. But someone said they were too similar to the Blades love interests, and you know what? They’re kind of right.
They are trapping us with these single LIs. In a game called Choices, the only choice we have in the matter is “choose to play this book or choose not to”. No more choosing who to romance, no more choosing who you’d like to spend a romantic scene with, no more choosing flirty options with multiple people.
Being forced to romance one love interest kind of feels like I’m being force fed broccoli or something: no, I don’t care how great someone pretends it is, it is not enjoyable.
