my biology professor has such a chaotic energy about him, last week i went to his office hours and somehow we ended up on the topic of gay marriage:

he said that when he lived in texas they changed the law to define marriage as “between a man and a woman in a house of religious worship with the intention to have children” so he filed his taxes as single and when they called him up like “you filed married last year” he was like “you changed the law, i was married by a judge in a courthouse and i have no intention of having kids” and they told him “you know who that law was for” and i guess he hung up on them and did not, in fact, pay taxes as a married man that year

i get that things like racism and antisemitism and lgbt+phobia and exclusionism and terf rhetoric and all that are very important topics. i get that they need to be talked about. what i DON’T get is how you feel the need to be ableist when talking about these things.

people with things like adhd and dyslexia genuinely find it difficult to read your five paragraph PSA. people who are still learning your language will find it difficult to read your post. tl;drs genuinely help these people. keep that in mind. if you want to spread the message consider EVERYONE who might want to read it.

tl;dr: don’t fucking use an accessibilty resource to be passive aggressive to people just because you’re mad about the thing you’re talking about.

I’m a little tired of seeing all the adhd executive dysfunction/emotional regulation/innatention posts without tips or suggestions as if it’s a completely hopeless situation. of course it’s important to acknowledge & validate it especially in an adult context but like... There Are Workarounds

when I need to clean I call friends and chat so it doesn’t feel as agonizing

when I can’t study I start eating sunflower seeds by the bag and suddenly I can read again (but if that doesn’t work it’s just Med Time)

if I have to write something and I can’t get started I do screenshare with pals (even though they’re probably not watching I feel that External Pressure)

Find Your Stim (I like clicking pens and messing with stuff that makes sound which means I have to be alone otherwise I drive everyone around me bonkers lol)

gotta have a whole BAG of tricks for emotional regulation when that anger spiral kicks in (breathing exercises, blasting music in the car, private vent blog, literally just leaving and sprinting around the block, ngl I’m not as great with this one -_- )

like not everything works with everyone and sometimes it takes a while to get A Whole System setup but once you do realize certain things specifically giving you trouble (importance of External Motivation/Validation, trouble starting, needing additional stimulation) you can specifically target that aspect of adhd brain bullshit and hopefully enlist people as necessary. telling folks ‘here’s a problem!’ without any hints on what folks do to live with it feels. I dunno. come on. let’s help each other out.
