tbh i think one thing we really gotta work on is letting marginalized characters experience the full range of fiction while still being able to recognize the distinction of when a story is actually targeting them for being marginalized.

because those are still fundamentaly two different things. a marginalized character being harmed, being a shitty person, being a villain, or experiencing horrific things does not inherently mean the story is doing something bigoted to them. sometimes horrible things just happen to characters because they're in a story where horrible things happen to people.

some people may enjoy cutsey content where nothing bad happens, but thats not really what pushes most stories. you have to be able to let gay characters go through horrific things without it being bury your gays, you have to let women experience horror in horror media without it being targetted female violence, you have to let disabled people be villains without villainizing disability, etc. etc.

because these are things that make interesting and compelling characters and media. context matters so much.

there is a weird form of narrative segregation that can emerge when we're too afraid of these things. the more these characters are not 'allowed' to experience the plot, the furthermore they will be shoved to the side.

What gets me about the "it's bad that Deltarune made Undyne a cop" stuff is that, like, she is very much a cop in Undertale, too. That's basically the whole context of your initial confrontation with her. yknow what i think we should create a hashtag or something to advocate against tumblr's ban on sexually explicit content. email tumblr staff, tag tumblr staff, whatever. tumblr, as stated by tumblr itself, is supposed to be a place for creativity. the porn ban is arbitrary and doesn't protect anyone. tumblr already has a mature content system that prevents minors from seeing certain posts, so what's the point of banning porn entirely?
