There's a lot I find impoverished about popular etiologies for orientation towards certain kinks on this website, but I think they especially fail to account for interest. I'm not drawn to torture and interrogation and abusive dynamics because of past trauma or unmet emotional needs, I'm drawn to them because they're interesting to me. Intellectually, emotionally, psychologically, and culturally interesting. It's not a stretch that what I find erotically interesting is linked to what I find interesting in general.

There is so much discourse lately about Vox and whether or not he'd SA Alastor and like I get it!! He's an awful fucking person!! Do I think he's fully above it?? No! Absolutely not!

But canon just doesn't support it. The amount of times Alastor pulls away and Vox doesn't continue to engage physically is just too telling. Will he hurt him? Sure. It's what they do to each other, it's reciprocal. But Alastor being literally tied to a chair and pulling away when Vox puts his hands on his shoulders and Vox not grabbing him again??? There's just still some degree of respect there.

People try to go too hard one way or the other. Is Vox kind of a hopeless romantic? I think so. Is his view of romance completely fucked up and controlling? Yeah! Like him having emotions doesn't make him Good. It doesn't absolve him. And acting like he's just some cold monster doesn't work either, because it just doesn't fit the narrative. It's also boring af, honestly.

Does he not SA Alastor because he thinks it's wrong? Hell no. He doesn't do it because he still wants Alastor to actually want him. To acknowledge him. The thing that people miss so often with this is how badly Vox wants to be wanted. It's not a win to just take it, because it's not what he really wants in the end.

He wants Alastor's respect and recognition above all else. Like that's very clear from what we're shown. He loses in the end because of trying to get that. Not because he wants to fuck him.

context: this comic takes place during the creation/production of val + vels love potion. maybe a year or two after velvette arrives in hell, vox scouts her to join the vees. valentino is sceptical about her skillset after working with vox as a duo for so long, and their relationship is tested when velvette comes to him with an idea he’d never considered before.

The Vees and Alastor sporting matching asymmetry, based on the makeover Velvette (then Vox) give Alastor in @watchmebitch's They Could Have Been Worse. Taking a picture to flaunt your captive's new look will go well... right?

I sketched this a while ago, but finally decided to clean it up for the instant gratification of finished art while working on some longer Hazbin fancomics. This fan fiction is so GOOD and entertaining, it's definitely fueling my Hazbin hyperfixation between seasons.

I just noticed A Thing about this scene.

Charlie is angry here. She wants the Vees gone, Vaggi is supporting her in typical Vaggi fashion, and Charlie has taken on her demonic form in a threat display of her own. She has absolutely no issue with threatening the two if that's what it takes to make them leave.

We switch to a closeup on Velvette, during which she ends up on the business end of Vaggi's spear and Vox intervenes. And in the next wide shot, Charlie's attitude has completely changed.

You'd think she would still be on guard, or maybe relieved that the Vees are on their way out, but instead she appears surprised. Her defensive posture has dropped. And as Vox steers Velvette away, she returns to her normal form, looking even more shocked.

Something happened here which she did not expect. And it's not Vox's casual disregard for the incredibly dangerous weapon, because he's obviously wary of it; far more so than he was when it was pointed at him, in fact. And he just as obviously puts himself between it and Velvette, so it's no mystery why he suddenly decided to take the threat seriously.

Charlie set up an elaborate, sabotaged to be actually life-threatening situation so Angel could "save" Husk, because she thought selflessly endangering himself could be the key to redemption. And then one of the people who spent the entire day mocking her efforts went and did that like it was second nature. And then that same person immediately turned around and asked if she thought he could be redeemed like it was some kind of gotcha.

Like. Sir. You literally just showcased your most redeemable quality to the Princess of Friendship Hell. And she noticed. What did you think she was going to say? (I'm sure he missed her reaction because he was focused on Vaggi, but still).
