Hello 👋 ! Myself and friend Chloe are currently holding an open call for artists to join Flesh Cells: Reworked, a group exhibition that will be held in Brisbane in a few months time at the end of June.
The exhibition will be centred around the broad topic of body modification. 🔪
The representation of humanity begins with the human body, spanning over various subcultures, castes, abilities, gender etc. That being said there is much historical context and discourse that allocates the physical aspects of individuals into their preconceived different groups. Body modification comes into play when said individuals choose to create their own narrative, whether this is to belong to a certain norm within a society, to live up to tradition, treat gender dysphoria or to break apart from stereotypes, body modification allows this to be entirely up to an individuals choice. However, there is much controversy surrounding body modification with the notion that humans are able to gain the power to alter their own image and abilities, a new found sense of autonomy; a choice that has always been assumed to be a blessing limited to the higher gods.
If this topic appeals to you we are searching for submissions of a wide range of media covering comics, performance art, sculpture, literature, video art etc. Due to the multifaceted topic of Flesh Cells we hope this will allow artists to create conceptual works that will push boundaries and/or explore the effects of body modification in their personal life.
Please apply by sending your Artists CV or previous works to [email protected] by the submission deadline of Monday 6th of May.
We are located in Brisbane, AUS but are open to interstate and international submissions, don’t hesitate to drop any queries in the email provided!
