We’ve attempted this before, and let me tell you, it’s quite a daunting task. ‘Armies’ really is a fandom classic that’s difficult to compare. The closest you can get are probably fics featuring a mafia au, dark!Neil/dark!Andrew, or a BAMF!Neil. He could taste it sometimes; blackberries and sand stinging his tongue like the iron branded on his shoulder.
It was easier to pretend he'd never been anyone at all.
