I wish media companies didn't have their Austen purist writers cover Bridgerton. Because they don't understand the genre of books, and they don't get that Bridgerton isn't even trying to be like an Austen adaptation. Bridgerton is trying to be the exact opposite of repressed, conservative, traditional adaptations.

Also any review that has the word "trash" anywhere in the review when referring to romance novels/the show/genre is an immediate disqualification for me, and that writer's opinion no longer counts, good or bad.

I’ve been reading some bridgerton reviews cause I don’t have anything to do and I’m so excited for this show but I need to get some things of my chest, 

I’m gonna put this bellow cause spoilers

I’ve read bridgerton last year didn’t even know they were doing the tv show and my sister told me because I couldn’t stop talking about it, and basically I was in a book hangover that lasted years and these books were very important cause I found this genre I had no ideia that existed, I mean I knew they existed but never had the curiosity to read them until I saw someone talking about it and what made me want to read was the family interactions cause as much as I love romance I love family interactions in everything (movies, tv show, books etc). 

First thing, okay so that vox review basically said that the tragic and awful scene from the first book it’s there and I’m kinda disappointed because I though they would change but so far this is the only review that mentions this, and we’ll only know after we watched. Also some critic that read the book said she liked Daphne in the tv show and that she was the least favorite sibling in the books. I don’t know...

Second, this same review basically said that Marina is manipulating someone and I’m going to assume it’s Colin and I really didn’t want they to do that because a black woman manipulating a white man is a big no especially because they said numerous time that Colin is naive. Early on my twitter I was saying that I wished that they wouldn’t thrown her under the bus for other characters. So I guess they did. Anyway I’m so confused about this review. I love Jane Austen and I love regency romance and as a black woman myself to see black people on this genre it’s so hard and I don’t wan’t this to be ruined. I’m not a hater, I’m just saying my thoughts.

Third, I’ve read Northanger Abbey one of this days and Jane Austen had a whole monologue about how people undermine romance novels especially ones that are written for women, anyway what’s bothering me it’s how reviewers are basically saying that the show is and I quote “ a delightful trash” people never take romance novels seriously, so basically a lot of internalized misogyny going on.
