Rumplestiltskin: You said no magic. I agreed. But I'm not walking in there with nothing but good looks.
Hook: Now I on the other hand...
Charming: Here. In case your good looks fail you.
I watched the episode real time and there's an added 1-2 seconds scene after this conversation that I don't remember being that elaborate in the manga. Interesting detail. 💭
In Japanese culture, names are a bit of a social dance. Usually, moving from last names to first names is a sign of growing intimacy. So, if a guy is still using a girl's last name despite being "close," it might feel like a mixed signal.
However, there are several culturally specific reasons why this happens that don't necessarily mean he's keeping his distance.
1. The "Yobisute" Comfort Level
In Japanese, addressing someone by their last name without an honorific (like -san or -kun) is called yobisute.
The Paradox: Using a last name without an honorific can actually be more intimate than using a first name with an honorific.
The Dynamic: If he calls her "Tanaka" instead of "Tanaka-san" or "Haruka-san," he is signaling a level of "teammate" or "buddy" closeness where formalities are no longer required.
2. The "Buddy" or "Tomboy" Dynamic
Sometimes, using a last name is a way to maintain a "platonic bestie" vibe.
Neutrality: First names can sometimes carry a romantic or "sweet" weight.
Camaraderie: By sticking to the last name, he might be treating her as "one of the guys" or a trusted comrade, especially if they met in a high-paced environment like a sports club or a workplace.
3. Habit from School Days
Japanese social groups often solidify their naming conventions the moment they meet.
The "Anchor" Effect: If they met in high school and everyone called her by her last name then, he might still call her that ten years later. Changing to a first name later in life can actually feel incredibly awkward or "too try-hard" for some men.
Is it a sign of "The Friendzone"?
Not necessarily, but it usually leans toward stability over romance. If a guy is interested in someone romantically, he often looks for an "opening" to switch to her first name or a cute nickname. If he’s stuck on the last name, he likely views the relationship as a rock-solid, reliable friendship where he feels he doesn't need to perform or be "charming."
A Note on Personality: Some guys are just shy. Using a first name feels like a massive leap of courage that they aren't ready to take, so they stick to the last name as a "safe" home base.

do me a solid and just reblog this saying what time it is where you are and what you’re thinking about in the tags.
People who say that Kana made Aqua's breakdown about herself are annoying
L'Arc~en~Ciel #hyde誕生祭 in Tokyo Dome [2025.01.19]
"Hyde will always venture into new things and collaborate with other artists, but Hyde with L'Arc~en~Ciel will always feel like going home to a hot soup on a cold winter day. If ただいま pertains to a group, that's L'Arc~en~Ciel for me ♥️"
This post is my feelings from Hyde's birthday concert last year, expressed in one thousand nine hundred seventy-four words (mostly in Filipino). No proof-reading. Just feelings. Read at your own risk.
If there is anything that season 3 established on the get go (at least for me) is that Hikaru Kamiki is one creepy bastard.
I am still contemplating if I'd watch the season real-time or binge it when it's already done. We will see. (For starters, I haven't watched the new episode yet)
I will always wave the white penlight for this girl. ❤️

but why do I have tears in my eyes? 💭
Look, maybe trying to stop doomsday is exactly what starts it.
- Luther (Season 2, Episode 5)
I love the entirety of The Umbrella Academy series and I know this is an unpopular opinion but I love all of it including Season 4.
If you take ONK ask:
What instrument do you think the cast would enjoy playing?
Interesting question 😁 Took me a long time to think of an answer though but here goes:
Aqua - drums
Melt - guitar
Taiki - keyboards
Kana - keyboards and guitar (she learned to play these because she released acoustic versions of her songs and performs them live with a piano or guitar // but also has the tendency to keyboard smash when she's thinking of the mean things she said for the day but don't actually mean it hahaha)
Memcho - bass guitar
Ruby - harmonica (like she has little parts in their concerts with her harmonica but it totally steals the show)
Akane - violin
Ai - keyboards (that she probably learned from Kamiki)
It's interesting to read interpretations of characters from stories I've read but sometimes, I wonder, did we really read the same thing? 💭
House: This is the final Jack Cannon. Nothing gets resolved.
Who's his father? Who killed his brother? How'd he get that damn scar on his cheek, and why is he obsessed with yo-yos?
- House, M.D. S7E3
I was on a road trip today with friends and on our way home, my friend played this song. I was so proud that I know the lyrics by heart only because I got to know it from this meticulously crafted fanmade video. I don't think I will ever listen to this song without thinking of that video. That's how good it is for me.
Again and again, to each their own. 💭
i love seeing bts photos of the show- the way aiden visibly goes back to Looking Like A Kid once he’s no longer in character !!
> first photo: happy teen :]
> second photo: disgruntled old man ಠ_ಠ
Dr. House: You've been telling me for years that I should come by. Here I am. Hi, guys.
Dr. Harper: Got a Thursday group.
Dr. House: Poker night.
Dr. Harper: Monday morning?
Dr. House: Book club.
And there it is. 6 episodes into season 2 and my TUA brainrot kicks in. 🙈
