This.
This is why people who stay in my life are neurodiverse like me!
[text ID: a tweet by @rhododaktulos that reads, ““my child is completely fine” your child’s favourite trope is found family”]
Seeing triple A cyberpunk 2077 flop class-action-lawsuit hard with a legion of people working on it for years and getting stardew valley's excellent 1.5 update crafted lovingly by one man in around 1 year within 7 days of each other really emphasizes just how thin the triple a game industry's excuses for bad games are
I wish people would stop saying “It’s July. Well done for wasting half a year.” Did you make someone smile in the past six months? Did you stroke a cat or throw a stick for a dog? Did you learn a new fact or teach someone a new joke? Did you laugh, cry, scream or sing in the past six months? Because if so, congratulations for not wasting your time at all.
I really needed this
I’m bringing this back for December to remind everyone.
You did not waste your year.
If you made it this far, that’s already not wasting your year.
You made it through the year, you laughed, you cried, you smiled, you saw the sun and felt the rain, and most importantly, you’re still here.
You did not waste your year.
You mad it this far, and I’m proud of you.
Bringing this back for 2020 to tell you:
DUDE.
YOU SURVIVED A MOTHERFUCKING
PANDEMIC.
You lived through what is, and I’m not exaggerating, a fucking apocalyptic event. DURING a major political crisis to boot! This year, still having a pulse is a major accomplishment, and I’m so glad you’re here.
not to be all “tw*light did nothing wrong” but misogyny honest to god killed the hunger games
it was no masterpiece sure but it also sure as hell wasnt the love triangle bullshit everyone made it out to be. seriously everyone blames this whole “YA fiction with the special One and teens overthrowing the oppressive government tropes” trend on the hunger games but the truth is that none of those books are anything like thg
god!!! im mad!! name one cliche YA novel where the government actually is BAD like not just “oh love is illegal” or “they barcode you!!uwu” instead of like. actual slavery and rampant poverty while the rich waste their money on dumb bullshit!! and name one main character who ACTUALLY suffers under the government’s regime!! who actually starves and works and suffers and has genuine REASON to rebel!! thg is the only YA book that had anything to say about wealth disparity and the dehumanization of the poor,, every other YA book uses it as a plot device to put some dumbass romance together or show how “badass” the MC is!! thg is genuinely emotional and the focus of the book isnt katniss’s archery and how cool she is and its NOT gale or fucking peeta bread. and then the marketing for the stupid fucking movies took the WHOLE POINT OF THE BOOK (which is to satirize and critique how women in entertainment have any serious things about them ignored in favor of whatever dress theyre wearing or who they’re dating) and turns that into……….. a fucking love triangle. and then the world forgets it because its just another dumb teen girl series. okay.
Me @ myself rn
oh also last thing. the fact that at the end katniss chose to kill Coin (the rebel leader/soon to be newest dictator) instead of just having a plain and simple boring happy ending shows just how different thg is from the YA fiction its compared to. no other book in this genre would have the guts (or even the idea) to put out such a blatant, obvious “the fight against oppression never ends, stay diligent” message and thg is iconic for it and it shows how much thought was actually put into its message. im sorry to susan collins for my 12 yo self for not understanding at the time and thinking it was just bad writing
thanks to everyone adding on about the representation! about finnick’s story and being trafficked! and about peeta and his disability!! and katniss and her indigenous coding and PTSD!! And about how it shows how war n dictatorships always prey on marginalized groups!! and a billion other things!!! that the movies just fucked off n forgot about!!!
Also, like…Katniss’ love triangle with Peeta and Gale was never about the love aspect. She was choosing between war and peace. It wasn’t “oh nooo i have too many boys :(” it was “one of these people represents war and violence and revolt, which is necessary in the world but unsustainable, and one of them represents peace and love and rebuilding, which can tolerate too much but ultimately is the goal.” and it had to be a romantic relationship because she had to be put into a position where choosing one cut her off from the other. katniss choosing peeta was NEVER about choosing the boy she loved most; it was about choosing a future where she counted up good things in the world, where she had children because she was no longer terrified of what their future would look like, where she grew primroses in her garden and started moving on from living her entire life steeped in trauma. gale was important to her because he was ferocious like her; but even he goes further than her, like when he refuses to run away with katniss because he wants to be part of the rebellion.
thg is a war story. peeta and gale both represent another aspect of what happens when the war is over - you can focus on it, enjoy it even, continue to bring it back every time something goes wrong; or you can slow down, rebuild, heal, refuse to glorify the effect it had on society and you personally. choosing one means you cannot have the other. you cannot hold hands and play in the grass with peace and war at the same time: you marry one of them. doing so erases your ability to commit to the other. and katniss’ choice of peeta is significant because she is choosing peace. she is choosing, despite how hard it is and how easy it would be to be bitter and broken and angry, to heal.
YES THAT LAST PART
The Hunger Games is just a good book. Period.
when growing up me and my dad and my brother played a game at Home Depot called “Don’t let me see you while I shop.” The rules were that I had to follow my dad around the huge Home Depot but be out of sight the whole time. This game was extremely fun for me for some reason (we also called it the “Super Spy game”) and extremely useful for my dad.
Anyway, later on I realized I could just wonder off and not necessarily follow him around and still win. This is the story of how I used to go directly into the Home Depot lights section and just immediately dissociate like I entered a fairy wonder land for hours on end.
In short:

childhood truly is a special time.
finding out that the beginning scenes in Elf were all shot in forced perspective to make Buddy seem giant makes this movie even better kLJASLKDFJ
biting is a love language. no i will not elaborate.

Why would you do that. Just type with the default
this is possibly even worse
What, y’all don’t specifically choose a font that perfectly encapsulates the mood of your wip?
you get it
alskdfj;lkweiroja font discourse has got to be my favorite discourse
seeing the outrage and shock and horror that oh my god you actually write in that?? you mean you don’t ___??? will never cease to make my day
what is it about a font that makes it appeal to someone and not to someone else?
how does the tiny curl of that b send some writers into the deepest distress?
idk. idk. but it’s kinda amazing.
(yes, I know this is a very weird thing to say. font discourse, my friends. font discourse.)
In light of the recent font discourse, based on real answers from real people, I have made this non-exhaustive alignment chart of fonts to write in. I will not be taking criticism, because I am right.

Ok so I've found a way to describe what Neurodivergent Can't Do Task Mode™ feels like to neurotypicals
So you know how you can't make yourself put your hand down on a hot stovetop? There's a part of your brain that stops you from doing that? That's what Neurodivergent Can't Do Task Mode™ feels like
Even if we want to do it, there's a barrier stopping us from doing it, and it's really hard to override
And why does our brain see the task as a hot stovetop? Because when neurotypicals finish a task, they get serotonin, but we don't get that satisfaction after completing a task. A neurotypical wouldn't get serotonin from putting their hand on a hot stovetop, it would just hurt. When we can't do a task, it's because our brain knows that the task will hurt (metaphorically) and wants to avoid that.
It's not that we're choosing not to do the task, it's that our brain is physically preventing us from doing it.
Neurotypicals can and should reblog but please don't add anything
(Sorry/not sorry about the random bolding, it makes it easier for us to read)
Oh that’s a great example. It’s not even really a metaphor in some cases. Because this is exactly what some of our brains are doing. For one reason or another the brain thinks that the task in question is dangerous or harmful and the mechanism keeping us from doing it is a survival mechanism.
Can I also say (completely unrelated im sorry) that OP has been giving the gift of being able to highlight the Important Words??? I WISH I had that skill in school.

Basically, yeah.
Hi please dont hide these in the tags
Seriously though how was the landscaping place part of yesterday even real
Like, genuinely, it somehow keeps getting funnier??
The fact that it was located across from a crematorium and next to a porn store.
The tweet series from an actual President of the United States that was like “we’re doing a thing at Four Seasons!”… “…by which I definitely meant this LANDSCAPING BUSINESS”.
That this happened at like the exact same time that the networks all called the race.
That all of this is happening in 2020, the weirdest fucking year ever.
That they actually went and did a for-real press conference there, in the parking lot of a landscaping business across from a crematorium and next to a porn store.
Just. Everything about it. My gosh.
