“Sorry t’bother ya, sweetheart ——— Can ya tell me where I am?”
"Storybrooke, Maine. We..don't get many newcomers. How'd you come across our little town?"
perditionpulledmeback
She appears at the table setting down a menu and flashing the newcomer a smile. "Hey can I get you something?"
betaxhale:
Colin nodded, motioning towards the Camero. Derek would be so pissed if he found out he not only picked up someone in his car, but that she was all sorts of attractive. He seriously doubted that his brother could’ve managed that just driving down the road. “Ruby. That’s a nice name.” He grinned, “Well, you just traded one small town for another.” He walked towards the car and unlocked the door. Opening it for her, he leaned against it a little. "I’ve done some traveling myself. Been to South America." Though it wasn’t for any type of vacation and hadn’t been very pleasant at all. He waited for her to get in before shutting the door gently. Walking over to the driver’s side, he got in and buckled up. Not that he needed to but he wanted to more sure that she put hers on too. He started the car and backed up. “There won’t be any mechanics open right now. Should I take you to a motel or something?” He rubbed the back of his neck, then propped his arm on the driver’s side door with one hand on the wheel. There was something about this girl. He knew that she wasn’t from around there but she seemed too trusting. Of course, the same could be said of him at the moment.
"Thanks." She said grinning to the boy as she strode towards the camero. "I really appreciate this." She said ducking her head as she settled into the passenger seat. "Well, small towns can be deceiving." She said with a tip of her head. A small smile playing on ruby red lips.
Her brows lifted some and she found herself leaning with some interest towards him. "South America? Really. I once met a guy who'd traveled all over the world and had seen all these amazing things. Like lemurs." She let out a somewhat bashful chuckle. "Did you ever see any? Lemurs i mean." it felt kind of silly to ask. But she wasn't all Red. Ruby, the girl who had been trapped in Storybrooke and dreamed of adventure was still there.
She paused pursing her lips. "God i hadn't really thought about it. I was planning on driving through the night. Do you know of any hotels. Maybe with somewhere to eat near by?" She hadn't eaten much on the ride so far
skinnydefenselessheroism:
"He didn’t die." At first, that’s all Stiles says, but he’s not looking at Ruby again, his hands suddenly white-knuckled against the steering wheel of his trusty Jeep. "And I guess he’s not my boyfriend, but, uh.”
The boy takes a shakey breath in, trying to focus on the road. There’s a way he holds his body that’s different, stiffer, his head tipped down and eyes woodenly fixed ahead. A tremor has started in his arms and his hands against the wheel, but he’s not acknowledging it. “But a lot of people died. And he almost did. I — I don’t know if you know what a kitsune is. A fox spirit. But some of them are good and some of them are bad and one of the bad ones decided I’d make a wonderful meat suit. So it took me, and it used my face and my hands to kill a lot of people I knew. It tricked them, it played them against each other, it used me, there were points at which I wasn’t sure what was it and what was me, and there was a day, in the animal clinic. Well. Night, really…but, uh.”
Stiles takes another shakey breath, and gives his head half a shake, not bothering to bring his head back around to the original position. “We took a ninja sword and we put it through Scott’s guts and we twisted it and we enjoyed it and I know—what it’s like to do terrible things to the people you love. So. I appreciate what you were trying to do, Red, but I don’t need the platitudes. We’ve seen some shit too. The town I mean.”
She looked from the passenger window back to him. Her brows lifting slightly. But she didn't say anything. Merely waited for him to continue. There was nothing condemning in her gaze as he finally began explaining. And the girl was content to wait patiently to hear the full story.
She did give a small shake of her head when he asked if she knew what a kitsune was. But there was nothing else from her. Not until he finished. She did look sympathetic. And before she even thought about it she reached out to pat his knee.
"Platitude or not Stiles. I know what it's like to hurt the people you love, i know what it's like to feel out of control and like you can't trust yourself. I also know what it's like to feel like there's no coming out on top. But the second you believe that. You're doomed. And i don't think you are. I think..I think there has to be a reason I ended up here. I ended up lost here. And i happened run into you. I'm going to do whatever I can to help you and your friends, Stiles."

Her smile curved at her red lips. Now that he wasn’t asking so many questions. “I’ll make sure you get set up with a nice room.” she said with a wink in his direction. “Well…” she hummed leaning forward to lean on the counter. “You really can’t go wrong with any of granny’s food. But it depends what you feel like.Breakfast…The pancakes are delicious and we make great coffee and hot chocolate. Lunch, the burgers rock. And we serve beer if you feel like it.”
"Now, you just said the magic words. I’ll take a beer and a burger with fries, thanks." He smiled and looked around the diner. It was pretty decently occupied and after a couple moments he let himself relax a little. He was still on guard, that never really went away. But he stopped waiting for the other shoe to drop. "How long have you lived here, if you don’t mind my asking?"
She had her pen poised in her hand and a smile pulled at her lips when he spoke. "Coming right up." she said with a wink, Tearing the sheet from her notepad. Going to give the order to cook. She strolled back a moment later with a beer in her hand. Setting it in front of him. "All my life." she answered after a beat.
She decided she'd better make things seem normal, just an average little town. And she would give her memories as Ruby. "My Granny had a heart attack a few years ago. I was planning on leaving when I graduated high school but..she needed me."

Why did the cute newcomer have to raise red flags immediately? They didn’t need anyone stirring up trouble just when things might have settled down. “Ah..well you know we’re kind of a hidden gem. And it’s really easy to get turned around on these roads.” she played off. “Sure do. Granny also owns an inne. I can set you up with a room for the night. Can I get you something to eat first?”
"That I won’t argue with." He grinned, looking down a little shyly. "I’m normally good with places but can’t say I’ve been around here to often." He nodded as he looked back up at her. "That’s really convenient. That sounds good to me." Food sounded great to him and his stomach growled slightly. "I can’t remember that last time I sat down and ate. Especially at a nice diner like this. What do you recommend?"
Her smile curved at her red lips. Now that he wasn't asking so many questions. "I'll make sure you get set up with a nice room." she said with a wink in his direction. "Well..." she hummed leaning forward to lean on the counter. "You really can't go wrong with any of granny's food. But it depends what you feel like.Breakfast...The pancakes are delicious and we make great coffee and hot chocolate. Lunch, the burgers rock. And we serve beer if you feel like it."
Colin had begged Derek to let him take the camero out for a drive. It had taken promises of a full gas tank and washing it the next day to get him to agree. He’d just started driving and what was the point of that if he couldn’t use Derek’s car every now and then? He’d been tapping his hands on the steering wheel and singing along to the radio when he spotted a car coming up on the side of the road. He slowed to a stop and pulled up behind her. He took a moment to appreciate the view before getting out of the car. "Hey, you need some help?" His eyes adjusted easily to the dark but then he caught a scent, her scent. Another werewolf. Well, this town was called Beacon Hills. “I’m not great with cars but I can give you a lift.” He stayed by his car, not wanting to make any movement that might alert her. His eyes stayed on her, tilting his head as if to seem a little more innocent. But if she was like him, then she smelled the wolf in him already. “I’m Colin. I live around here. And I’m guessing that maybe you don’t?” He took a step closer, putting his hands in his pockets.
Although just because a car was coming down the road did not mean that it was going to stop. Thankfully for her the car did stop. And she thanked her lucky stars that this one did stop. she smiled gratefully as the other boy stepped out of his car--the very cute boy she might note. And she lifted her brows, not concealing a smile all that well. "Uh yeah actually. My car completely stalled out." she said with a sigh She took a step towards him. There was nothing all that threatening about him. And she felt she could aptly protect herself if ned be.
"That would be great thanks.." she tipped her head as if waiting for him to introduce himself. "Colin. Nice to meet you. "I'm Ruby." She said taking another step towards him. "No I'm just passing through. Wanting to do a little traveling. I'm from a pretty small town."
There was something...something in the air. A scent. If she could just bring the wolf a little closer to the surface to identify it. The last time she'd met another wolf felt like another lifetime ago. She wasn't sure she could identify one now.
"Storybrooke. You know, I’ve traveled a lot., been through this part of Maine before too, and I’ve never heard of this place." He shook his head, getting comfortable since it seemed he might as well stay for the night. "Do you know any place I could stay around here? Might as well take a break from driving while I get my bearings again."
Why did the cute newcomer have to raise red flags immediately? They didn't need anyone stirring up trouble just when things might have settled down. "Ah..well you know we're kind of a hidden gem. And it's really easy to get turned around on these roads." she played off. "Sure do. Granny also owns an inne. I can set you up with a room for the night. Can I get you something to eat first?"
Stiles listens. He frowns quietly, tipping his head to the side as she speaks. “Sure, sure. Okay. Sure. That totally makes sense, that’s totally understandable. If regular myths are real, why not fairy tales too? Alternate dimensions. I’m down. I don’t remember there being a story where Red Riding Hood was the wolf, too, though.”
They’re at a stoplight, briefly, and he flicks his eyes over Ruby before he has to move his car again. His neck arches, pressing his chin towards his chest, and suddenly Stiles can’t meet her gaze. “I don’t think there’s any such thing as happy endings. There’s just endings. They’ve got happy parts and sad parts and then things are over and there’s no parts. Also this is gonna sound fucked up, but, uh. Not judging on the … not being yourself and doing terrible, terrible things front.”
It sounds like experience.
Still, he spares Ruby another glance and gives a quiet little sigh, nodding. “Nice to meet you too. I’m still taking you to Scott, though.”
She remembered how long it had taken Emma to believe, not that she could balme her. If someone had told waitress ruby that she would have thought they were nuts. Still she'd expected a little more hesitation on his part. SHe was glad he believed her though. "It seems like you've been dealing with your fair share of normally unbelievable stuff. But that's exactly right..well realms would be more accurate. You can only get to them through portals and portals are pretty rare. The things I could tell you Stiles." She said with a soft grin. She paused shrugging. "I mean..when i had false memories. When I was just a girl in a small town in maine.. I read all those stories, or I knew them anyway. None of them were..well let's just say there not quite as they seem. Fairy tales are supposed to be tied up neatly but reality..just isn't."
Her brows furrow as she's watching the other boy and she frowns. "Reality might not get tied up as neat but there are still happy endings Stiles. There hard and they take a lot of fighting and a lot of work and you might want to quit and give up but..eventually you find it." She sighs after a moment, leaning an elbow on the window sill so she can peer out the window. "Snow taught me that." She said softly. "I mean..it's not as easy for everyone. Snow and David..or uh I guess you'd know him as Prince Charming. They were made for each other. Happy ending guaranteed no mater how much life tore them apart and tried to separate them. I..haven't found mine yet. And i guess neither have you but..that doesn't mean we won't." Maybe some of Snow and Charming's shining optimism had rubbed off on her after all.
She glances back to him when he speaks again and it catches her off guard. "Thanks.." she starts slowly. "You sound like you know the feeling." She observes carefully. "i..I don't mean to you know insinuate or anything I just..." she wasn't sure when she decided to tell him what had happened, maybe just to get the heart broken look off his face. That maybe there were worse things. But she didn't know his story either.
Every month wolf's time our village was tormented by this horrible beast, a wolf. It ate our sheep, our cows...They started sending out hunting parties. Which I always wanted to go on but Granny wouldn't let me. Told me stay in my room and keep that hood on. But I never did. Peter, my boyfriend, and I were planning on leaving, running away together. Whirlwind romance and all that. Meanwhile, the wolf slaughtered the hunting party. Massacred them." Her brows furrowed as she continued to talk "Then Snow came..with her help I tracked the wolf. Followed it's prints..straight to my window. The only person who ever came to my window was Peter. So naturally..we thought it was him...I told him. He wanted to protect me and the village. And he told me to chain him to a tree...this is a little foggy for me personally but..Snow tried to pose as me, so Granny wouldn't find out I was gone. Cause of course I would stay by Peter even if he turned into a wolf..Granny realized what a horrible mistake we'd made because..Peter wasn't the wolf. I was the wolf. It turns out..wolf runs in my family. She bought the enchanted hood to keep me from turning but of course..I never wore it. By the time they got there..it was too late...I was run out of town and i could never really forgive myself for what I did to him."
Her eyes had gone far awy for a moment and she sighed focusing back to reality and she looked back to him. "Now..I don't know what you might have done or been through but..at least you didn't slaughter half a village and eat your boyfriend." she said with a slight shrug and a one shouldered shrug.

"Oh hey. I’m Ruby and you are?"
"Claude. You mind tellin’ me where I am exactly?" He’d driven into the town, completely lost because it wasn’t on any map. That’s why he stopped and went inside the diner, hoping that someone might have some answers.
"Storybrooke. Storybrooke Maine. Currently at Granny's diner." she said with a small little grin. "We don't get too many newcomers around here um..how'd you come across our little town?" She asked with a slight lift of her brows. He really did seem lost. And she couldn't help but notice cute at that.
skinnydefenselessheroism:
"I have no idea where Storybrooke is," Stiles starts, as if that’s the most important information for her, based on what she’s said. "But I’m beginning to think it’s in freaking Iceland based on how little grip you’ve got on reality, I—”
He shakes his head, glancing briefly at Ruby again. “I think wolves pretty much work the same everywhere, just somebody sold you a bad line. Yeah, Hunters, and a bunch of assassins, Beacon Hills isn’t the best place to be but it’s especially dangerous for supernatural things right now. I think…a lot of people think it’s just stories, but it turns out there’s a lot of bullshit that people thought were made up that’s real.”
Stiles frowns, mostly at the road, as they drive. “No. I mean. Other people might think you sound crazy. There’s a whole terrible…place. For people who know the truth ‘cause most people don’t believe in it. It’s a huge secret. But you can smell it on me, I’ve seen your eyes, I know what they mean. It isn’t just stories. I went out in the woods one night with my best friend and a werewolf bit him and he turned. So no. I don’t think you’re nuts. And Stiles. That’s me. My name. Stiles.”
"It's weird..I..I had a grip on reality. It was a very slim reality where i wore really short skirts and whined about wanting to get out of Storybrooke...which is actually in Maine..for your information." She said shooting him a look. Out of habit she wraps the hood around herself tighter. "But now I have two realities..one where I was Ruby the waitress and one where I was...Red." If he knew anything she wished he would speak up.
"Things work different in..where i'm from. There's a lot that works differently here. But I've seen people who want to destroy that..I guess the same goes for your kind of wolves."
She looks at him a moment. Seeming to examine him. His eyes look tired..like he's seen too much. Too much death and pain. He doesn't think she's crazy. He's opening up about what happened to him..his friend. She can reciprocate. "Okay..well let's see if you don't think I'm nuts in a second." She sighs and looks down. "There's..other realms Stiles. One is The Enchanted Forest. And all those..stories..fairy tales you hear growing up? They're real. Like..Little red riding hood for example?" She says pointing to her hood. But a formerly evil queen put a curse on us all..making us appear in your world. Which..is supposed to not have magic. And..for a while the curse kept us from remembering that so we couldn't have our happy endings. But what happy endings are there for a girl who accidentally killed and ate her boyfriend." now that she's started talking the words just keep coming and she's talking faster and faster.
"For a while the curse kept us from leaving but now..now we can leave. And I left..and I'm starting to think that it was a bad idea..." she pauses looking back to him. "But it is nice to meet you Stiles."
skinnydefenselessheroism:
Stiles immediately circles around to hop in the driver’s seat of the Jeep and throw it into gear. He’s careful in backing out of the parking lot but as soon as he’s out of it, they’re off, engaging in what Stiles clearly thinks of as evasive driving. “We can come back for your car or whatever later, okay? My Dad’s the Sheriff, it’ll be fine.”
As soon as she’s talking, however, she gets a confused, querilous look from Stiles. It doesn’t last mostly because he can’t afford to not be looking at the road. “Wow. Wow. I guess you’re…an omega. Somebody did you wrong, did you get bitten or were you born? Either way…wow. Somebody should have been teaching you better. Don’t worry. Scott’s getting the hang of this, he’ll help. He’s the alpha. That means he’s … his eyes are red. He’s a leader, he’s in charge of the others in the pack and that’s why he’s more powerful. Then there are betas, who are werewolves in a pack who aren’t alphas, the more betas an alpha has the more powerful the alpha is. And omegas, wolves without packs, which is a shitty thing to be because hunters will gank you.”
There’s faith in whomever belongs to that name, Scott, at least. Stiles drums his fingers against the steering column as he continues to explain. “No, he doesn’t have an item. I know somebody who did have one once but it’s kind of like … in your head, you know? Scott has control. He had an anchor, that’s how it starts, you find something that anchors you, like in your head. I guess for you, your anchor is your hoodie there but…uh. You can definitely be a wolf and a human. Just because you’re a werewolf doesn’t mean you have to be a monster.”
"Most of what I need is in my bag. It should be fine."she assures him with a faint smile as he climbs into the drivers side. The term sheriff brings a smile to her lips and makes her think of Emma and David. Makes her feel a little closer to home.
It's her turn to look confused however. The terms he's using..none of them are familiar. Her mother taught her a lot about being a wolf but there were no terms. Once she feels in control she pulls back the hood. "..I don't think wolves work the same here..." she says softly letting her hands fall in her lap. "My mother was the leader of her den. But there were no..red eyes. She was just..in control of the other wolves" her eyes narrow slightly at him "Hunters? There are hunters here. This is all so..I thought this was supposed to be the real world. The land without magic and I thought...All wolves were..omegas. Most are alone. My mother taught me how to master the wolf, so I didn't hurt anybody again..but...everyone wa son their own."
She shakes her head softly as he continues. "It's...It's not like that. It's not something that binds me..it's magic. It was enchanted. It stops me from turning into the wolf." She sighs slumping back into the seat. "Granny was right. I should have stayed in Storybrooke. Things aren't the same here. But when i drove into this town I smelled...wolves. and I thought maybe I'd find others like me but this..this isn't the same. I doubt any of you have even heard of the enchanted forest. And..it's just stories for you isn't it? How are there other wolves here?"
She'd said too much. She'd seen how long it had taken Emma to believe. She was going to sound insane. "It's..this was a mistake. I need to get back to Storybrooke...I..I don't even know your name. This probably sounds like i'm crazy right?"
skinnydefenselessheroism:
"Your name is Ruby Red? I mean, okay, I know I’m literally the last person on earth to criticize anyone’s name, but seriously, Ruby Red, were your parents like total hippies—” Stiles starts in on it all, rumbling along like his ability to ramble is at the top of a hill and starting to go downwards, picking up speed as he goes. He’s gesturing with the hand not holding his bag of food and, privately, wondering why he didn’t buy a drink to go with it all. Short-sightedness. He can’t afford this much short-sightedness.
Of course, everything comes to a sudden halt a second later when Stiles sees her eyes flash yellow. He thrusts his face forward chin-first as if he’s trying to decide what to do with her when she starts to freak out.
This is probably a terrible idea. This is probably going to get him killed.
Then again Stiles is full of terrible ideas. He reaches out, trying to turn Ruby around and steer her towards the nearby Jeep. “Yeah, yeah, okay, okay, let’s not be doing the glowstick routine in the middle of the street. Did not hear it but I — am not taking chances, lady, just trust if this is a trick and you spread my guts all over my car there’s gonna be so much retribution.”
As soon as they’re near Roscoe he’s trying to motion her into the passenger’s side. “Get in, get in, I can take you to my alpha, okay? Then you can decide if you can trust me. Or…him. Mostly him.”
"Oh my god no. My name is not ruby red stop calling me ruby red. I'm not a juice. It's Ruby and Red. Separate. Separate got it." she said eyeing him seriously, eyes narrowing slightly. Although that was the least of their worries at the moment.
Meanwhile in her own head she's wondering if she remembered to put her hood in her bag. She's pretty sure she did but never the less she allows herself to be turned and takes a deep breath. Trying to will herself to get the wolf under control. She will not let it get out of control. She vowed never to hurt anyone, not since Peter. "You think I'm doing this on purpose? I'm always in control I--that smell. Something isn't right with that smell." she turns to look at him over her shoulder. "Trust me I don't want to see your guts spread anywhere."
She takes another breath as she climbs into the jeep. "Alpha? What's an alpha. I..once met a den of wolves. But there was no alpha...I..where is it." she's digging through her bag, searching desperately for something and she finds it. Her red hood. She quickly throws it over herself sinking into the seat. "It'll keep me from changing. Does your..alpha have anything like this? Or is he like..the wolf den I met. They believed..the wolf was what you should be. That you couldn't be both wolf and human. You had to choose. I choose to be both."
skinnydefenselessheroism:
It is, of course, right when he tries to stop for some lunch, to just take five minutes to be a normal teenager, when someone pops up out of nowhere to startle the crap out of him. This is Stiles’ life now. People coming at him from out of nowhere, even when he has his hands full of fast food bags and his mouth full of curly fries. When was the last time he’d even had the opportunity to eat curly fries in peace?
Stiles blinks at the woman in front of him, fingers clutching the bag closer. It occurs to him that if she’s after him because of the list, he’s exposed and doesn’t even has bat with him to protect himself. On the other hand—he’s in public.
So he feigns innocence instead, turning to look back at the restaurant behind himself. He speaks with his mouth only partially full, which is slightly an improvement over yesteryear. “…uhhhhhh…Jack In The Box?”
"Jack...in the box." she repeats with a frown. Emma had warned her maybe she wasn't prepared for..the real world so to speak. She was a pretty good actress. But what if this guy wasn't some regular boy. What if he knew about magic and wolves and the change. What if Jack in the box was something from the enchanted forest. Why wouldn't he have been in Storybrooke?
Her brows furrow and she crosses her arms over her chest. "My name is Ruby...red?" She ventures with a lift of her brows. If he'd recognize that..that might tell her something.Or maybe she should just...gamble. Risk it all. And she took a deep breath taking a small step towards him. "Look..this might sound..completely crazy." That was a good start. And she seemed to show that by huffing, blowing a piece of hair from her face. "There's something..weird about this place and I..I just want to know is there..others like me here. I mean.."
She suddenly stops and lifts her head to the side. "Did you hear that?" Her eyes are searching in the distance. There it was again. "Now you had to have heard that." Something was coming. She heard the sound again and smelt something...something she didn't recognize. Something that smelled poisonous. Causing her eyes to flash yellow. She could feel it. "It's not even wolf time." She muttered beneath her breath.
"Something bad is coming. We have to get out of here. You smell like other wolves...Can I trust you?"
(etrelinqueretur)
She was currently rushing out of Granny's diner--just in time to collide into someone."Oh I'm sorry I--" she looked up blinking a slight smile curving at her lips. "Hey..Derek. I remember you. You ran the butcher shop Granny used sometimes. I'm not sure if we ever met in The Enchanted Forest. I was Red there...who were you?" she asked smiling softly.
(clairexnovak)
"Oh hey. I'm Ruby and you are?"
(betaxhale)
She had always wanted to explore beyond Storybrooke's limits. But with the curses, both of them. It had been impossible. Now was her time to see the world. Find what this world held.
What she hadn't been expecting was in her travels was for her car to break down, in the middle of the night, with wolfs time just a day away. This couldn't possibly be any worse. As she climbs out of her car, she lets the frigid night air surround her. And it's at that moment, the moment she steps out of the car she smells it.
Wolves.
And it doesn't smell just like wolves in the wild. It smells like wolves like her. Her breath catches in her throat and she looks around her. Wolf time is coming...Well she's not going to figure out anything if she can't get the car started so she pops the trunk and sighs.
"If only I knew something about cars. Too bad Billy isn't here.." she sighs and turns on her flash light and frowns. It's at that moment she sees the head lights of a car approaching. Maybe her luck is changing.
