This would be fun with another girl
Sunstone. YOU MUST READ SUNSTONE!
Just in case there are a few people in the BDSM and D/s community who haven’t heard of Sunstone, let me give you a quick rundown of it and a reason to check it out.
Sunstone began as a webcomic created by the endlessly talented comic artist Stjepan Šejić, who has a laundry list of works for Marvel, Image, Top Cow, Dynamite, and Zenescope (to name a few). Some of his most known work is with the Witchblade series, in which he was the longest running artist to work on the title. Other titles he has worked with include X-Men, She-Hulk, Army of Darkness, and Painkiller Jane, and many, many more than I can even remember. He also has his own personal series, Death Vigil, in which he is both artist and writer.
Now let me get back to my original reason for this post.
Sunstone is a highly successful webcomic (and now graphic novel series) that revolves around the BDSM community. What starts off as a (more or less) casual kink relationship between Lisa, a writer of online erotic fiction with a submissive side, and Ally, a freelance programmer who identifies as a Dominant and a fan of Lisa’s work. The series is done as a narrative by Lisa, documenting how their relationship has progressed since their first meeting.
Sunstone is a great story, hands down. It able to relate to what a typical, real world D/s dynamic can be like; not all deathly seriousness, with upheavals that pretty much every couple, vanilla and non, face. Although it is adult oriented, it is not remotely pornographic, which lends to the feel of being set in the real world. There are supporting characters on both sides of the Lifestyle, so the reader can get a feel for what it is like to deal with friends and family on both sides of the dynamic.
Most importantly, it shows that Dominants do not have to be starchy-shirted and all serious business, nor do they need to be abusive, stalker-ish, or no-holds-barred disciplinarians (as seen in that series with number and color titles that shall not be named). Also, it shows that submissives do not have to be doormats, and they have depth and meaning beyond just being the physical and emotional punching bags that both porn and mainstream outlets have made them out to be.
If you find yourself to be a fan, then be sure to also check out Stjepan’s other works, and also the work of his wife Linda (who has her own successful webcomic/graphic novel series, Blood Stain). Both of them are also here on Tumblr: @nebezial-asheri and @sigeel , respectively. Feel free to give them a look, it won’t cost anything but a few minutes of your time.. but be warned, you may spend hours reading the collected stories.
