Being a Worry Wart | Ian & Arista
He wanted to believe his mother but there was still something making him doubt her words. “I know, Mother…And I do look forward to that.” Why wouldn’t Ian be looking forward to his child? Whoever Robyn gave birth to was to be his heir. It would have been preferred that his heir be male but there wasn’t saying a daughter of his couldn’t rule. He would love any child that Robyn gave him regardless. It was the fact that he first had to get passed this that he didn’t like.
"I don’t know," Ian said as he looked up at her. "Father came in before you came and told me to try and get some work. But…" He waved a hand at his desk to show her how much that had worked. He had pieces of parchment scattered all over his desk with only a few of them actually having anything written on them. Inkwells and bottles were also placed here and there on his desk. "That didn’t work so well…Then Smudge isn’t much of a distraction as he was when I was young." Hearing his master’s words, Smudge huffed before resting his large head on Ian’s leg.
“I know that it's hard,” She mused, pressing her nose into his neck. In theory the Queen didn't know. Truthfully when all of her seven children were born she was a little preoccupied in the actual labour to worry about the baby until she had had the baby placed into her arms. She didn't have to deal with the loss, or anything, she had healthy children – and although Aslan and Neptune simply blessed her with seven and she hadn't conceived in almost two decades, she understood that she had her fill. Her children were her life. “Just think about the fact you're going to be holding your baby soon.” Arista gave a small snort, “Not to mention making me a grandmother.” She wasn't too thrilled at that prospect. She was far too young to be a grandmother in her opinion. “Well you can't take it out on the dog.” She gave a small laugh as she moved her hand to the large dog's head and began to weave her fingers through his shaggy fur. “Come here,” She mumbled as she pressed her lips into her oldest son's head. “You are going to make an amazing father and I know you're worrying and your father was wrong about working distracting you.” Because she knew how that didn't work so well for Caspian when he was in Ian's shoes.
arista the sister | Arista & Ariel
⋔ It seemed as if nothing had changed; well, nothing, except she had hugged her sister without being forced to by an annoyed father. Forced to ‘make up’ so there was no more fighting, no more screaming, and no more noise. Daddy always hated noise, as much as he hated humans, and music.
Things changed, Ariel thought with a smile.
As Arista complained of her dress, all Ariel could think of was her first dress — the sail, wrapped around her with some rope. She’d gotten splinters from the thing, and a few questioning looks. Arista’s matched her tail, a bright red, so much like Ariel’s hair that it made her cringe. If she wore that, she would look dreadful. Arista wore red with such grace and pride, it made Ariel — jealous? Sort of. Not really. A little.
"They are fun, though!" Ariel swished her own about. Hers was a muted green, laced with embroidery and silk. She hadn’t had much of a say, beyond nodding or shaking her head. She thought better than to question the choices of her handmaiden, especially when she didn’t know what she would do without them.
”Tutors are useful — though lessons are so boring.” Ariel added with the emphasis of a toddler. “You could be learning about it all, first hand! See paintings, ride carriages, dancing, singing — there’s so much to do!”
Ariel was awful at her lessons. She’d always thought she would enjoy them, but it was quite the contrary. She listened, and she was interested, but everything always came back to etiquette and politics. Booooring. She could only minutely flinch at the mention of crab cakes, trying to ignore the pang of guilt. No one else seemed to mind much, but Ariel wouldn’t fight that battle today.
"You do — so much has changed! I didn’t even know you were on land! Daddy didn’t mention it. I had to ask Sebastian, and you know how crabby he is." Ariel resisted the urge to poke her tongue out with her joke. She, instead, accepted the gentle tug towards the rose garden, walking behind her sister with the grace of a gangling child. How did Arista walk so elegantly?
Not fair.
"Eric — oh, Eric." Ariel sighed, rolling her eyes. "We had the ceremony, as you know, but everything went downhill in a few of the lower lands. Some — guy with a castle got too angry at another one — ” Ariel couldn’t explain what had happened, because she barely understood it herself. Eric was away. That was the main (worst) thing.
”Eric is well, but rarely home. We still have papers to put through, and people to see, and another whole ceremony in a church…” Ariel gulped down a breath, pushing away her own problems. “But — I’m alive. That’s good, right? And what about you? I didn’t even know there was a boy who you wouldn’t scare off with your bossiness.” Ariel laughed, second-guessing herself once she’d finished speaking. “No offense..?”
“Father hadn't told you?” Well it was somewhat understandable. It wasn't until Ariel and Eric had gone off into the sunset to live happily ever after the the King had decided that perhaps alliances with the human world wouldn't end Atlantica. When the King of Narnia had sent message via the merfolk of his Kingdom the King had been reluctant... even if he wasn't as reluctant as Arista herself had been... but he had decided to go ahead with the arranged marriage because it was one of the last things he had arranged with his wife before her death. “Well Sebastian wasn't too happy when I left the club without a sax player.” Arista chuckled as she raised her shoulders up to her ears. She couldn't help it --- Sebastian was a crabby crustacean at the best of times; let alone when he was a player down in the band. But, regardless --- it was a long story and Arista had to inform Ariel about it all. “Father wasn't sure about sending me off here because he was worried that humans were still 'barbaric' and to be honest I didn't really wanna come and get married to someone I didn't even know.” Especially when she was quite capable of finding love herself. She did have a boyfriend called Dylan for a decent amount of time. She knew how to attract guys, she didn't need an arranged marriage for that. “I was supposed to come for twelve months and see if I would still want to marry Caspian,” She looked at the redhead and began to sit down on one of the wooden benches in the rose gardens. “We fell in love on the voyage from our meeting place to his castle.” Which she looked around –-- it was gorgeous, she still wouldn't say it was as beautiful as the underwater palace of Atlantica, but really could anything better there? “We just decided we wanted to marry each other...” She trailed off; “We had a small ceremony just between ourselves and two witnesses,” It was hushed – even the servants didn't know that the King and merprincess were already married. “Well --- like you, we still have to get married in a church where everyone can see, but Caspian is away on another voyage and we didn't want him to return after...” Her hand dropped to her stomach. She was barely showing at this point; but the fact whispers would begin to flutter around the castle, she knew the whole Kingdom would discover the young blonde was indeed pregnant. She didn't tell Ariel the news of the pregnancy; perhaps she'd figure it out for herself – but when her sister changed the subject, Arista's attention was fully on her and what was going on with Eric. “I understand how that feels;” The blonde straightened her stance and looked at the redhead. Never seeing the man you loved regardless of whether you were married or not. “Lonely, you must be really lonely.” She could understand that too --- but at least now that they were both on land it meant that they could see each other. It would be perfect. Ariel would get to play a more prominent part in her child's life! Arista could only snort. “Really, I think it's mostly because Caspian can put up with my sarcasm and sassiness.” It was the main parts that made up Arista's personality. She was the most sarcastic of the mermaids; although Aquata would have put in great effort to dethrone her. “I think he has qualities like that deep down there himself. He takes me for who I am and not because I'm a princess;” And for a moment Arista's blue eyes shone, “And he's a big fan of horses.” Oh boy don't get her started. All those giant sea horse races and the way that Arista took care of them, Salton, Kara, Foamy --- she loved her giant seahorses and missed them all terribly. Caspian had arranged for Salton and Kara to come from Altantica to live in the grotto underneath Cair Paravel's castle; but Arista didn't tell Ariel that just yet. Maybe she could surprise her by taking the redhead down into the grotto and give her a glimpse into the life they left behind. “Honestly I just miss my tail.” She mumbled with a small laugh. But, well, who wouldn't? It was a big part of her, of them, and to be without it and somewhat human, it was certainly weird.

arista the sister | Arista & Ariel
⋔ In a matter of seconds, Ariel was reminded how much she had missed of her sister’s life. What had once been an annoying complaint, or a fight that went on for hours (days, sometimes), was now fond memories. Perhaps not the fondest, but enough to make Ariel’s heart ache.
The wedding — had it happened?
And what else would she have missed of her sister’s (all of her sisters) lives?
This was enough to convince Ariel she needed to see more of the surface world. Eric was dealing with political strife in the lesser realms of Denmark (and Europe). Her daddy had been kind enough to see to Ariel’s visit. Not much more information was given to her, save for the With enough time behind you, even the most seemed nostalgic and heart-warming.
Even now, as Ariel engulfed her sister into the biggest hug she could manage, she felt the pang of lost time; of lost opportunities. She had spent too long in Denmark, upon reflection. While she waited and waited for her true love to return, there was a world to see.
Right now, there was a sister to catch up with.
“I — well I came to visit you, so I’m glad to see you.” Ariel matched her laugh, allowing Arista some space. She hoped that her sister hadn’t been so smothered by her. Ariel’s attention dropped to her dress, and to what she could only assume was legs.
”I wasn’t so crazy, now was I?” Ariel smiled, a little know-it-all in her tone. “How have you found it? Have you gotten used to forks and doorknobs?”
“It's... something.” Oh how she remembered the day that Ariel had left and married Prince Eric. It was like nothing that Arista had imagined. She remembered when Ariel disappeared and how it was for their Father. The good seaking was devastated to let his baby girl go, but because he had began to trust humans because of Eric --- Triton allowed the arranged marriage that had been long forgotten between the King of Narnia and his middle daughter go through. “I think I was falling all over the place just trying to get used to...” She let go of her sister and began to grip the large red skirts of her dress and pulled them up to show her dress. “--- well, these.” She was still surprised. She could recall being one of the sisters that had asked Ariel what she had ever wanted to have legs for and called them ugly. But she didn't exactly change her legs for them --- no, the magic of this world that she was now connected to did that. Even Arista didn't know that the merpeople of Atlantica and the merpeople of Narnia were connected; but you did learn something new every day. “Thankfully I've had so many tutors on everything that I didn't have to learn so much... but forks.” She sighed and shook her head. “So used to just eating seaweed and crab cakes all my life that I didn't think there was so many different kinds of food up here to have to use a fork.” Arista was still getting used to a lot of things. “I think what I hate the most is the lack of musical instruments.” Oh, yes, well she did spend most of her time in that little underwater club when she was in Atlantica of course she'd miss things such as the saxophone. But, her husband had gotten her a piano, of sorts, when she expressed interest in wanting one. “Ariel, I have so much to tell you about!” Where would she begin? The fact she secretly married Caspian the night before he left just in case he was delayed on his voyage? Or the fact that she was already expecting a child? She didn't know what would be best. Tugging at her sister's hand she looked back at the rose gardens, mostly planted for her – the flowers were red and yellow; much like her mermaid form. “Come on, we can sit in the gardens and I'll tell you all about it.” “I'm sure you have so much to tell me! Like, how is Eric?”
arista the sister | Arista & Ariel
⋔ With her life on the surface world, and with Arista’s time being spent in Narnia, it was a genuine surprise to see her.
”Arista! Oh my gosh!”
Ariel’s laugh filled the air, running (stumbling) towards her sister. How she missed her! Even if she would borrow things without asking, or tattle on Ariel, it was all memories, all forgiven in time. Word was rare here, but Sebastian kept her up to date on general events.
On Arista’s engagement, for one.
The merprincess had been a little reoccupied lately with her pregnancy and her engagement. Life had been rushed through --- her secret marriage that no one really heard about until the King would return from his small voyage to the Lone Islands. She was settling in fine in her role. The whole castle was a buzz for planning the proper wedding; but Arista would admit that she was lonely. Being in Narnia alone wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Her older sister Andrina would come visit; their father had given her the title and role of Atlantica's Ambassador of Narnia. Sure, it was something everyone expected Sebastian to get; but Arista and Andrina's pleads had managed to convince the seaking. Arista! She blinked, hearing her name – in that all familiar sound made the blonde turn as her long hair fanned out behind her. “Ariel?” She voiced as her flaxen brows raised and her lips curved into a genuine grin. Yes, the two had their differences growing up --- Arista and Ariel had argued a lot of their teenage years. From Arista stealing things, to Ariel borrowing what was hers in return – the times Arista would be a complete sea urchin. But, now after spending so much time apart, Arista was actually really happy to see her youngest sister. “Oh, whoa!” The older sister moved forward and wrapped her arms around her stumbling sister. “Ariel,” The musical mermaid's words were laced in a small lyrical laugh. “I wasn't expecting to see you!” And whether she expected or not --- it was certainly a pleasant surprise indeed.
Returning Home | Caspian & Arista
"I’m sorry, then, if that is how I’m making you feel, Ari. But you do need to realize you can’t do all that much while you’re pregnant." He thought that her ladies or the doctors would have explained that to her. Well they possibly had but Arista had just chosen to ignore them. It wouldn’t have surprised Caspian either way if that was the case. "I know you dislike relying on others but for now…You need to." He didn’t want anything to happen to the baby. Perhaps he was being over cautious but it wasn’t something he could help. After losing everyone that he was close to, it wasn’t something he wanted to face again. He came close to when he was at sea and that was enough for him.
Not even a minute within Narnia and already she was using her sarcasm on him. Why he didn’t expect her remark on where her boots were he didn’t know but he had to purse his lips from throwing his own back at her. It was the last thing that Caspian wanted to do, especially in front of everyone. If it had only been one maid or servant then he probably would have said something but that wasn’t the case. Instead he unpursed his lips, waved a servant over, and handed him his wife’s boots. “Make sure these are brought up to my chambers as well,” he informed the servant before waving him away. The servant bowed to him and joined the others that were unloading Arista’s things from the wheelhouse and carts.
"And weren’t you the one that told me that you had an uncomfortable jounary? Not only for you but our child as well?" Caspian hadn’t mean to snap at her and after running a hand down his face he gave her an apologetic look. "I know you wish to walk around and see the castle once more," he said in a much calmer voice, "but you most also take care of yourself…At least promise me that you’ll rest for a little bit if you get tired." Cupping her cheek with his hand he smiled at her as she asked about the rose gardens. "They are still here, I promise. I wouldn’t wish to replace them." He had frequented the gardens when he returned from both his voyage and Germany. Visiting the gardens helped him with the loneliness he felt with Arista not being in Narnia with him.
Caspian was thankful when Arista finally took his arm and allowed him to start walking down the walkway towards doors that led into the main entrance. “Then I shall show you what has been done. My desk has yet to be moved into our room but I was going have it moved once your things were put away.” Causing the servants the least amount of trouble was what he wanted and he hoped he could do that by putting off his desk from being moved. A laugh came out of the king as he glanced down at his wife when she expressed the desire to have been the one to destroy his tomb. “I’m sorry Mi Sirena. I’ll make sure you’re the one to have that job the next time a grave is made for me by mistake.”
“We'll see.” She muttered. The mermaid was an active one – pregnant or not. Yes, she may have been due around Christmas but that didn't mean she wouldn't go do what she normally did. Yes, of course she knew she couldn't go horseback riding anymore; or even dare to go into the water and become a mermaid in case something happened to the child --- but she wasn't going to sit back and relax. It wasn't who she was. It would bore Arista to death! “I don't need to do anything.” Oh no, there was no way --- no way, by Neptune, that she was relying on others! She hadn't relied on anyone in the palace of Atlantica and she wasn't relying on anyone in the castle of Cair Paravel. She loved her husband; of course she did, and she wanted the best for her unborn child --- but to be fussed around, yeah, that didn't work well with the young princess. Maybe, maybe she was getting her fins in a knot, but all she wanted was the chance to be herself. “Yes but I've been cooped up in an unfamiliar castle for the past few months, Caspian.” she didn't like the fact that he was acting as if he was right and she was wrong; she was really agitated and sarcastic and the pregnancy hormones were driving her insane. Why not make him feel the same way? “I am finally home and I intend on getting used to our castle --- starting with the gardens.” He had planted the special roses especially for her after all. The red and yellow ones that very much symbolised how she looked as a mermaid. She was a very special mermaid after all; not many mermaids or mermen in Atlantica actually had her red tail and fins. “Fine.” She grumbled; but accepted. Arista would take a rest if she felt tired; but she wasn't going to tell anyone if she did get so. She'd probably sit on one of the concrete seats and just wait. The future Queen was quite the stubborn little seahorse at times and this was one of the worst. She wouldn't admit it out loud; but she knew that she was being a little too uptight today. She mumbled at his words as they headed towards the main entrance of the castle. “There won't be a next time.” She had no intention of ever burying her husband again unless she knew for sure that he was actually dead. That hurt so much – she actually thought he was dead. Thinking of those moments again, the young merprincess wrapped her hand around her husband's and tightly squeezed his hand. Sometimes life was unbearable – but now she was starting to piece it all back together and that was what was important. “I'm sorry I'm being such a crab today.”
Being a Worry Wart | Ian & Arista
Hearing the door to his study open he had half expected it to be his father. Already the king had come in to see how well he was holding up and had given him the idea of trying to get some work done to pass the time. However his father hadn’t stayed long since he was required to get his own work done. Ian didn’t think that his mother would come in though. He had thought that she was going to be Robyn or making sure that his younger siblings were staying out of trouble.
"Mother," he returned when she wrapped an arm around his shoulders. He sighed as he leaned more into his mother. "Not well." He was glad that she was there but he also wasn’t at the same time. Ian thought that it would be best for him to be alone but he also wanted someone other than Smudge there. As great of a presence as Smudge was, there wasn’t much that the dog could do when he did want to hear some verbal reassurance as well.
"I know…But I still can’t help but think something is going to go wrong…"
“Dear nothing will go wrong.” She knew it was one thing to tell him that and then another for it to actually happen but the midwives were trained for every situation and if she could deliver seven children; including twins; and nothing too much go wrong – then why couldn’t Robyn who was in a better peak physical condition than her? “Just think,” She whispered, pressing her nose into her eldest son’s cheek. “You could very well be holding your baby son or daughter soon.” And she would be a grandparent. She didn’t know how she felt about that; but she knew that her son would make a wonderful father --- and a King when the time came. Of course Arista wasn’t ready to say Caspian was about to give up the ghost. Her husband was a strong man and she expected that he would live right into old age; and she intended on being right up there with him. “How can I make you feel better, Darling?” The Queen would do anything just to calm his mind.
Being a Worry Wart | Ian & Arista
When he was little Ian had always thought he was patient. He was still patient as far as he thought. Of course there were moments that tested his patient and for several reasons. Leon goofing off too much, Kane being…Well being Kane, an advisor getting on his nerves, or the work his father gave him getting to him. Right then, however, had to be the worse test of his patients yet. It was simply for the fact that he couldn’t stand waiting any longer.
He threw his quill down in frustration. He had thought that doing some work could distract him but he was apparently wrong about that. “I hate waiting,” he muttered as he looked down at Smudge. His large dog lifted his head from where he laid on the floor and whined. All he had wanted to do was to go in there and see how Robyn was. But no, they refused to allow him into the room. Sighing, Ian rubbed the bridge of his nose as he tried to get rid of some of the stress making his muscle relax.
He couldn’t help but worry. Robyn meant everything to him right then. They might have been put into an arranged marriage but he had actually grown to love her. She had shown love like no other woman had and he couldn’t bare the thought of losing her. Why Ian was even thinking such things was a lost to him, though. He knew that she was most likely going to be alright but he just couldn’t help himself. Ian was jarred from his thoughts when he felt Smudge nudge his leg. Reaching out he petted his dog on the head as he tried to over his thoughts.
The Queen had checked on the midwives when she was making her way to her eldest son’s study. Of course she knew what was going on – the young princess was in labour with her first grandchild, naturally Ian was going to be nervous and worried. Arista knew him better than anyone and right then she wanted to wrap her arms around him and tell him everything was going to be alright. Robyn was in the best of hands. Not only was Antionella, her eldest daughter there in the room – but so were the midwives; one of which had even delivered Ian all those years ago. The blonde walked up behind her son. Her blue eyes scanned over the dog that was sitting by his side as faithfully as ever. “Ian,” She mused as she wrapped her arm around his broad shoulders and pressed her cheek into the side of his head. “Don’t worry everything is going fine.” Robyn was a strong woman – she had shown that in many ways. Naturally childbirth had been a strenuous thing for Arista and it would be for her daughter-in-law, but she had no belief that anything was going to go wrong. “It won’t be long now.” She pressed her lips into his ear as she held him close to show that he at least had someone. “How are you bearing up?”
lostneverlandprincess started following you
"Excuse me!"
The young Queen leaned over the small balcony that overlooked the gardens of Cair Paravel as she saw someone that she hadn't seen before. This woman was different from the people that she tended to see in her small court. “Do you think you could help me?” Arista questioned out. She began to make her way to the staircase that led down from the gardens. Her hand graced her large stomach; expecting her first child in less than a few weeks.
“I don't suppose you've seen the King on your travels?”
"Oh come on, I can show a bit of restraint."
"Knights and guards good, servants bad. Got it," Andrina said with a nod of her head. Now she just needed to get an actual plan sorted out and then her fun could begin. How to get her knight down to the grotto…The older blonde rolled her eyes when Arista added herself to the list off limited people. "Right, like you would have been scared of your own seahorses." If anything she probably wouldn’t be able to get the seahorses to listen to her when Arista was around.
“Says the girl that always used to get us with plastic kelp and seaweed at dinner.” The younger mermaid rolled her eyes. So much restraint that she still did it after the girls were expecting it. Andrina just couldn't stop herself from doing a prank; regardless of how overused it was. Unfortunately she did end up getting new ones...
“Good.” The young Queen nodded her head as her sister replayed what was good and what was bad to play pranks on. “Just be careful if Caspian finds out --- he might not be too pleased.” Arista herself could calm him down, but when the Knights all go to him saying how things weren't exactly going well with the older merprincess... well. Caspian was a patient man but he was bound to chew Arista's ear off about it to keep Andrina in line.
How am I supposed to do that? I couldn't even do that under the sea as kids!
“Ha,” She chuckled as she raised her shoulders. “Good point, Andy.” There was every chance the seahorses wouldn't even listen to Andrina if Arista was around. The seahorses were her faithful companions after all. “But you never know --- Caspian was actually a little scared of them when he first met them.” But then again the seahorse was protecting her because it wasn't really all that trusting of Caspian at the time for making her cry.
Will you roleplay as Arista in other blog? Or just stop roleplaying as Arista?
outofcharacter; At the time I was thinking of stopping roleplaying as Arista but I assure you that I've taken a couple of days away from the blog to think about the situation and I've calmed down now. I'm just not going to let the problem bother me anymore. I'll still be roleplaying Arista – and on this blog – so if you want to roleplay with me then let me know! Thank you, this is another anon that stopped me from deactivating her that night --- it felt like someone would have cared if I stopped roleplaying her. <3
I just noticed you seem to be having a hard time and I just wanted to say that if people don't come to you, then you should go to people and ask them about rping. Sometimes making the first move might be worthy. I know it might be hard and it might makes you feel like no one cares, I feel the same sometimes. But you are a great writer and you have a beautiful blog, so don't be afraid and don't give up.
outofcharacter; Honestly it wasn't the fact that people wouldn't come to me and roleplay --- it was more a personal thing that was getting me down but really I've decided that I'm not going to let people get me down because I'm worth more than that. This muse is one of my favourites, one of my babies and I'm not going to give up on her just yet because people I thought were my friends decided they were done with me. I'll make more friends and even if I don't at least I know I still have my main rp partner.
I can find more people to roleplay with I'm sure I can --- even if most of my followers are still part of a roleplay group and I'm not sure I can even roleplay with them anymore. I just have to do harder in finding new partners to get new threads. But, I really wanted to say thank you – because this message right here is one of the three reasons I didn't just deactivate Arista and stop roleplaying her all together, so thank you. I really mean that from the bottom of my heart. It seriously means a lot to know that someone actually cares. <3
psa: If I unfollowed you from themusicalmermaid it was because I closed down the blog and moved over here to redtailedmermaid and followed you here because being in a group meant I couldn’t roleplay with you before.
psa: and the same goes for ulafinn because I also closed that blog down to start roleplaying prominently over here with a verse that included once upon a time for anyone who wanted to roleplay with ula. also, ula is going to be my modern name for arista in any other verse that isn't narnian or atlantican.
