Week 5 Book 4 - The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Week Three Book Three
Week 2- Book 2
Start Over
This new year had brought important things to light. I stopped working, stopped writing. Left two books unfinished making excuses for why they weren’t good enough. I even wanted to change the entire story and start from scratch.
Then my birthday came along and I received gifts that I read as a sign; a sign to get back to it... but how? I don’t even know where to start. There I go again with the excuses.
Just like the way I started 6 years ago, open up a notebook and lay out how you want the story. Keep what you want, remove what you don’t.
Here goes nothing...again.

I have to remember this
Respect
I am lucky to be capable of looking at both sides of a certain situation and deciding, for myself, what is right and wrong according to my own morals and values. I also lucky to have the ability to see where another person is coming from, understand their opinions and beliefs, and not judge them. I do not have to agree with them, but I DO have to respect them. Respect is the one thing every human deserves just for being alive.
There are they who believe respect should not be given but earned. This is saying you are superior to another human being, and people have to show you their worth to earn your respect. This should not be the case, but unfortunately, people have been psychologically programmed to think some humans are more worthy than others. Why is that?
In the recent incidents that have occurred (ex: Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Dallas Shooting) it disgusts me how far this has come, and how far they have let this continue. By this, I mean the killing of people because of who they identify with and who they choose to stand against.
As human beings, we are naturally linked to other humans. We have this need to belong, to be a part of something, for survival. As human beings evolved, they learned they survive longer and more successfully with more people in their circle. Until one day, they decided to give value to possessions and money, which then led to immense amounts of greed.
Greed turned this world into its first act of disrespect. Disrespecting other human beings, giving them value instead of respect. This led to one of the worst times in our history; they massacring an entire group of humans for their land. Taking something that isn’t yours, naming it, and creating a society on it, is how America was built whether people want to believe it or not; it is fact.
Once those humans were wiped out the next worst time in history occurred; they buying, trading, beating, torturing, killing human beings for 245 years. They learned from their previous mistakes and didn’t kill these humans right away. They needed help to farm, build, and create the world they so comfortably lived in, and yet those humans that helped they were treated like less than humans, with NO respect.
And because of this, they decided to put labels on human beings, to make sure humans were controlled. So everyone knew a specific group of humans were different from they. To make sure these humans were a different kind of species. This labeling of human beings became the worst way for humans to identify themselves, but also the best way for they to control what they wanted. This disrespect still continues today.
PLEASE notice I did not once mention, White, Black, Native American, Protestant, Catholic, Pilgrims, or even Racism. Whether they believe it or not, we are all HUMANS. I guarantee when you read the word they, you had one thought in your head, one label. Think about that for a minute before you continue reading so you can see how deep this has gone from so many years of being taught to think in labels instead of in human beings.
Now, to be the peacemaker in this entire situation where it is as divided as ever:
The #BlackLivesMatter campaign exists because not one person with actual power has stood up to make a change. Supporters of the campaign are furious and frustrated because of a continuous pattern, a pattern that has not been punishable to its fullest extent. Society is taking a stand because enough is enough. Ladies and gentlemen, THIS IS NOTHING NEW! These attacks have been going on for years. The only difference now is technology exists so the rest of world can see what has been going on for decades. It is a shame how society thinks this has come out of the bloom and “Black people” have no reason to feel this way, or push #AllLivesMatter to take away, yet again, the one piece of power they have to make a change.
Now, on the other side of this coin are the police authorities who are supposed to be there to help us, protect us, and enforce laws that are in place for our protection. They have a job to do and it is never an easy one. We can’t judge them because we don’t do their job or experience what they have to on a day-to-day. Do they have to deal with difficult circumstances? Absolutely. Do they have to protect themselves from irate people? Without a doubt.
What do these two sides have in common; they both deserve our RESPECT. You do not have to agree what they have to say, but you do have to RESPECT! People need to stop talking about things they do not know. Do not side with someone because they look like you or because you assume you know what they are going through, or even because you assume you know “the type of people they are.” Side with someone because you know what is right and you know what is wrong.
If you want to stand against something, stand against labels. Stand against the media feeding you more labels. Don’t stand against law enforcement, stand against injustice. Don’t stand against racism, don’t give racism power, stand against disrespect.

Sharing my thoughts in the only way I know how; through words.
I’m taking time to pay my respects to the victims of this horrendous shooting in Orlando. My thoughts are with the survivors of this attack, some fighting for their lives at this very moment.
There is not enough that can be said about the nature of this attack that has not been said before. Yes, it is an attack of terrorism, but it is also an attack based on nothing but hate.
This country has so much history built on discrimination against color, race, social status, gender, sexual orientation as well as gender association. It’s amazing to witness how blind some American citizens are to their own country’s history, and won’t learn from it’s mistakes. With that being said, I am proud how the newer generations are more open and accepting of individuals who are different. However, blind hate is still alive and well, which is why attacks like these still continue.
I’ve written before about the existence of fear, and what it does to a person. It is that same fear, and the inability to face that fear, that creates such animosity among us; to ourselves and to others. This animosity then gets targeted to specific types of people based on the criteria mentioned above, and it doesn’t help when certain “leaders” enable and encourage their followers to continue on with this type of behavior.
I have not lived on this earth for very long, but in the time that I have, I realized there are only two types of categories people should be placed under; good people and bad people. I don’t care about the physical, emotional, or spiritual attributes that make us, the human race, different. I care about how you treat yourself and the people around you.
It’s about that time people realize there are good and bad people in all classifications; Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, Middle-Eastern, Asian, Christians, Muslims, LGBT and everyone else around the world. It’s about time people judge the individual for his/her individual actions and not with what that individual identifies with.
Enough is enough with grouping people into a specific category because they look a certain way or because they are attracted to a specific sex. Enough is enough with the media who perpetuates the cycle of making this country believe one group of people is better/worse than the next. There is nothing to gain with this, but more discrimination and in turn, more hate.
I plead for the human race to come together. We don’t have to love/like one another, but we do have to respect each other. Judging is something not one individual has the right to do. If you have not lived the life of another fellow human being, there is no possible way your judgement has any merit, and there is no book or higher power that will convince me this is acceptable.
In closing, I will end with a quote simple enough to understand, but has so much meaning behind it. In the words of the wonderful Ellen Degeneres “be kind to one another.”

Just so everyone knows, I'm still at it 😉 #AspiringAuthor #Writer #RedVelvetDreamworld #Desolate
Happy Birthday to the most beautiful girl who changed my entire way of looking at the world. Nine years ago today, life brought me a gift, a life altering prize. Noelani will always be my guide to who I want to become, but most importantly the person she will become. She is smart, kind, quick, funny, and talented beyond her years. The baby gods blessed me with this gorgeous human being, who I know one day will change the world with her determination. You're my world, I adore you!

Appreciation
Ladies and Gents,
Red Velvet: Strong is finished, edited, revised, and passed through human trials.
I want to thank everyone who took the time out of their busy schedules to read my book, and give me their feedback. From the bottom of my heart I appreciate all of you and I will forever be grateful.
My next step is to search for literary agents. Their feedback will be another step in this long process, but I couldn’t be any more excited. Hopefully someone will bite.
In the meantime, I’m working on the next installment of Red Velvet, which will have more “juice” than the first. With all these ideas my mind is playing with, who knows how this story will turn out.
Until the next update, peace and love.
