It was said to Ibrahim bin Adham: What’s wrong with us that we supplicate and we receive no answer?

Ibrahim said:

It’s because you know Allaah and you don’t obey Him.

You know the Messenger and you don’t follow his Sunnah.

You know the Qur’an and you don’t act according to it.

You eat from the blessings of Allaah and you’re not thankful for it.

You know Paradise and you don’t seek it.

You know the Hellfire and you don’t flee from it.

You know Iblees and you don’t fight him but rather you agree with him.

You know death and you don’t prepare for it.

You bury the dead and you don’t learn from it.

You ignore your own faults and you’re concerned with the faults of others.
