Looking up, her expression softened. She’d slipped right into her work-sense that she almost forgot this wasn’t the norm for Reevus. Sure he was a businessman of many talents, and unique experiences but this… this was different. “I apologize…this must be very confusing.” Looking back to the wrapped box in her hands, she moved to put it inside what looked like a medium wooden chest Tazaki had at the foot of her bed. The inner walls of the wood had intricate carvings of symbols and text, some were even branded on. “That description could be a lot of places around the world. The Vatican, Egypt, you name it.” Closing it, forest green looked back to her friend, “How did you come across this again?” Mentally she thought about who would know more about a relic or charmed item. Reevus hadn’t even opened the box yet, just touching it gave him visions and spiritual stress. Sitting down she put a warm hand on his shoulder, at least she thought it was warm.. his shoulder was cold. “Our souls are really the most vulnerable thing about us mortals..and when we come across divine or other-worldly totems, they can affect us in…strange ways..” she said slowly, playfully ruffling his hair.
Her touch was always comforting. He sighed and leaned in to her hand.”That was horrifying, I’ve always been so intrigued by your work, but to experience something like that. To have no control over myself. It’s something I wasn’t prepared for, and wouldn’t like to experience again Tazaki.” He took a moment to collect himself. “My assistant found it on top of my other mail, he tried to open it, but couldn’t. come to think of it he didn’t react in anyway when he handed it to me, and when i took it from him none of this occurred in my office.” He explained.
She gave him a nervous laugh, “It’s not for the faint of heart, I can tell you that much,” she mused. Nodding at his experience, she listened. “Of course, I understand.” Being possessed was one thing, and being used as a vessel of gateway was another. She had a feeling this was more of the latter but she couldn’t be sure. Not yet anyway. The huntress blinked at the new information. “In your mail?” Either someone was trying really heard to mess with him or something is sending Reevus a dangerous message. She scooted closer to him, allowing him to lean on her for support, he certainly looked a shade paler than before. “Tell me…is this assistant new or have you known them long?” They could be a gamekeeper or a pawn in all of this. Creatures of the unknown wore many faces.
Reevus leans up off of Tazaki after taking her hand and softly kissing the back of it as if to thank her for comforting him. He takes a moment to collect his thoughts. “Brian started three months ago, He replaced our last secretary after she tendered her resignation via email. Now that i think about it she didn’t even give me two weeks notice. Which is odd, because she was the most professional person I ever had the honor to work with, so for her to leave so abruptly with no warning is strange. It never came to mind before because we had been in crisis mode for several weeks after an accident in R and D.” Reevus looks at the wooden chest that Tazaki placed the box in. “We need more information on this box Taz, this is your area of expertise, What do you think our first steps should be?”
“I see… you might want to run a full background check on this Brian. I’ll ask around from my people as well. I need someone who knows ancient items and it may take them a while to get back to me. He’s incredibly hard to track down.” Stubborn was more like it. He was a valuable source of information so everyone bothered him whenever he surfaced. “For now, get some rest, meditate if you can and approach this as you would someone trying to sabotage your company. That could very well be the case, but! You don’t want to let the opposing side know you’re aware of what this is-or what it could be. Play dumb and approach this like a human without a supernatural hunter as a friend would. Let me be your ace.”
“…Right.” Reevus quickly pulled out his phone and began typing away at the screen. “I’m pulling up his work history now, I’ll also tap on some shoulders of people that I know in law enforcement. If I find anything I’ll let you know.” He said as he typed out a final text. He then stuffed his phone back into his pocket. “I just tried accessing my computer remotely, but something’s blocking me.” He looked down at his watch. “I’ll head home now and try to gain access from there.” He began to head for the door, but as he apprroached it he paused and turned towards Taz, “ Hey… uh… keep your ringer on, just in case I need to call you.” He said anxiously.
“It’s never off,” she said with a smile. Sometimes it felt like she was a doctor within the ‘on call’ list, but never off duty. “In fact give me your phone for a second.” When he complied, she held his phone under hers for a moment, until hers gave a soft beep and she handed it back to him. Her cell phonephone looked like something out of Stargate. It was a mix of different colors, copper, steel, and matte back. On top of that it was a flip phone with a thin slide out keyboard on its side with a small screen on the outside and bigger on inside. A slim, strange, rectangular phone. “Now I’ve got a ghost tracker on you. If that phone is off, smashed, or even thrown in water I’ll still know where it is on my end. It can’t be detected by any system as far as I can tell. Young friend of mind hooked that up.” She put her phone down and walked with him to the door. If he was locked out remotely already, there was already somebody trying to get underneath the skin of the company.
“We’re going to figure this out Reevus. Just go do what you do best and I’ll let you know what I find.” It was nerve rattling to be thrust into the unknown. He was scared, she could understand why. The best thing she could do for him was offer reassurance. The truth was, anything was fair game with how she worked, but that didn’t mean you couldn’t be positive, or give someone the spoonful of sugar they deserve to collect themselves. “Call me, beep me if you want to reach me” she joked opening the door.
Reevus chuckled as he walked out of the open door. “Good night Taz.” He walked downstairs and entered the silver Ford Mustang mach 1 and drove off towards home. As he drove he constantly looked out of the rearview window. The weight of the night’s events weighed heavily on him. A few moments passed before a pair of headlights appeared behind him. His muscles tensed and his breathing stifled. His eyes moved to the road, then down to the glove compartment. His sweaty palm reached over to open it. Inside, a 9mm pistol lent to him by his old bodyguard. He slowed the car down to a halt as he pulled out the weapon and put it on his lap. He pulled over to the side of the road and watched as the rogue vehicle approached. His eyes stayed fixated on the car. He checked the magazine before loading it again. He could feel his heart beating in his chest with a quickened pace. The car was close. His hands trembled. The car filled with college frat boys blasting an old Eminem song zoomed by him. He breathed a sigh of relief, placing the gun on the passenger seat. He then closed his eyes and rested his head on his steering wheel. He took several deep breaths and clenched his fists so that they would stop shaking. Being a target wasn’t new for the engineer. What he couldn’t handle was being the target of some magical conspiracy that he couldn’t come close to understanding. He was fascinated by the world Tazaki lived in. Her tales brought him so much wonder and joy like a child during a bedtime story, but this changed things. It finally became clear that the world she lived in was more dangerous than he could possibly imagine. Dangers were worse than an ordinary bullet. He took a moment to consider how out in the open he was before deciding to drive to his company. He needed to distract himself and feel safe. Nowhere was safer than his company building. Even his home had its security faults, or maybe it was just his uneasiness getting the better of him. He not only wanted to feel safe, but in control. There was nowhere where he could feel more empowered than in his lab. He began to drive again, ending up back at his company. He took a shower in the company gym and headed straight into his private lab in R&D. His lingering thoughts drove him to work for the rest of the night. He didn’t even realize that his employees had all arrived and were hard at work. He only noticed when his assistant arrived with his coffee. There was a knock on the locked lab door. “Mr.Valentine? I have your coffee and your agenda for the day.” A cautious Reevus looked at the door. “Right. You can leave it all by the door.” Reevus replied. “Uh sure, but we do have some matters to discuss.” Brian said. “Can it wait until later?” Reevus replied more sternly. “I’m afraid not sir.” Brian said in a softer tone. Reevus cursed silently before standing up and touching the surface of the door to open it. It slid open and Brian walked in with a smile, handing Reevus his coffee. Brian was a 24 yr old grad student of Indian descent. He was tall with dark black hair and brown skin, and emerald green eyes. He wore a dark gray dress shirt, black pants and shoes, and rectangular shaped glasses. Reevus paused for a moment, sizing up his assistant as he reluctantly took the coffee. His assistant noticed his apprehension but chose to overlook it. “You have your daily staff meeting happening in 30 minutes. You have a meeting with HR about new health insurance policies at 10:30, Brunch with Council woman wright at her favorite restaurant at 12:30. You then have a meeting with the mayor about starting the construction of the new warehouse near the docks at 3, and finally a demonstration of the new arm prosthesis at the medical technology conference at 6. Oh, you also have listed a dinner with a… Tazaki? I’m not sure if I pronounced that right, at 9.” Brian said with a level of uncertainty. “Yeah. Right.” Reevus replied placing the coffee on his work desk. Brian noticed this as well, “Is everything alright sir?” Brian asked with what sounded like a sincere tone, but Reevus was so on edge he couldn’t tell if this was all an act. “Yes, I’m fine. Give me a moment to get ready.” Reevus replied while moving back to work on his project as an attempt to avoid eye contact with Brian. “Right…” Brian replied “…I’ll have your car ready for you after your meeting with HR.” Reevus picked up a soldering iron and continued to work, “Okay. Thank you Brian.” Reevus said plainly. Brian, feeling unsure of himself, looked down at the ground and began to walk off. “Oh, Brian…” Reevus called out. “Yes sir?” Brian replied. “… Send me the agenda to my phone, I won’t be needing you to join me today.” Reevus ordered. Brian felt uneasy, “Right away sir.” Brian then turned to leave. Reevus then stood up and touched the wall closest to the door causing it to close. “Ava…” He said softly. “Yes Mr. Valentine?” an automated voice replied within the lab. “Let’s go dark.” Reevus ordered. The labs windows suddenly grew black, blocking out any view into the lab and sound coming out of it. Reevus only used this mode for secret project and meetings, but this was something different. He moved over to his laptop, “I want all information on Brian Chanderpaul sent to this computer.” After a few seconds all of the information loaded up on to his computer. He scrolled through some documents, but didn’t have much time to look through it all. “Send this information to Tazaki immediately.” Reevus ordered as he stood up and moved over to his locker taking out a freshly pressed suit. “It has been sent.” Ava replied. Reevus then took up his cellphone that he had placed on his workbench and typed out a message, “Just sent info on Brian. No time to look through it all. Too much to do. See if you can find any leads? Let’s talk at dinner tonight.” He then finished his look, stuffed his phone in his pocket and began his day.

He listened to her as he surveyed the other box. After she spoke he sat down next to her again and continued to look at the box with questioning eyes. “It feels… warm…” He mentioned as the symbols began to have a faint glow. “I get the feeling it’s telling me how to open it Taz.” He turned to face her, “give me the box I gave you. Do you have anything that could possibly shield us from what ever comes out of these, you know, just in case?”
Tazaki handed the box he originally handed her. “I have something like that, but I cant guarantee a full on protection.” she told him while going to her room and reached under her bed to pull out a folded cloth. It was heavy and springy, a microfiber cloth that repels. Returning to the living room she shook it out. “Here goes”
Reevus reached over to the box in Tazaki’s hand. As he grabs the box out of her hands, his eyes became black in color and tears of blood became to stream down his face. He starts to speak a language that’s not his own as visions of a place he’s never been pass through his mind. After a few moments he drops one of the boxes and tries to regain his bearings. “Tazaki, what just happened?”
The redhead stared, wide eyed and cautious. She had been ready with the cloth but it was certainly not weapons or explosions that came at them. ‘Pandora’s Box?’ No… it was too simple to be such a thing, not to mention the effect. She handed Reevus a towel for his face. Clearing her throat, she began “You were crying blood and your eyes looked like you were taken over. It sounded like you were speaking something between Samaritin, Atlantian and Latin.” She covered the box with the same protective fiber she was going to use a shield to keep either party from touching it - for now. Wrapping it up she set it aside. “Strange… I’ve seen enchanted objects but this one looks like it has to resonate before revealing its secrets. Even still, I’m not expert in either of those languages. Black eyes and tears of blood also stem from biblical lore. And I don’t think that was stigmata. ” Back eyes were those of possession or inhuman. Statues only cried blood when something bad was coming like the plagues. Just what had been stirred up. Tazaki leaned forward after putting her back to the wall opposite of Reevus, pondering the little details they had.
“I don’t remember saying anything, but I can remember flashes of a place with stone walls and flame torches on the wall. I know that doesn’t exactly give us any clues.” Reevus said while rubbing his forehead a sharp pain had manifested in his head. He used the towel to wipe the blood from his eyes. He looked down at the bloodied towel, still in shock from the experience that he could barely remember. His rational mind couldn’t comprehend what Taz had told him. “Taz, what do we do? What are our next steps?”

He looked at her with a furrowed brow when he “If I’m being honest. I know because I would’ve done the same thing in his shoes.” He took another pull before speaking again. His eyes fixated on the darkness above him, searching for a star in the light polluted. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Ariel. So, I have a question that I feel like I should ask you. Do you think Harvey is a good man?” He paused to let her speak, but then spoke again. “Follow up question. Do you like Ice cream?”
“ oh…” she nodded, a thoughtful expression on her face. of course, he and harvey were of the same world, they would think alike when it came to money wouldn’t they? she hoped that was where their similarities stopped. his question threw her off once again, her eyes questioning. why would he ask her that? of course her first instinct was to blurt out that she didn’t, but could she trust this man with that? what if this was a test? in her mind it was very possible, she wouldn’t put harvey past it at all to do that to her… though hoped to god that wasn’t the case. “ well… it’s not really my place to think about whether i agree with his morals… i’m– i’m just a maid. ” she replied, patting herself on the back. the was the right thing to say, wasn’t it? she smiled a little bit at the ice cream bit and nodded. “ yeah, suppose i do. ”
A booming laughter erupted from his lips. He tried so hard to speak, but to no avail. After a few seconds he caught his breath and calmed himself. He looked around to notice that even the valet at the end of path had heard him. He looked at her while holding in his laughter, “Oh, I’m sorry. I hope they didn’t hear me inside. That was just so funny. You avoided that question so beautifully that I couldn’t help myself.” He put out his cigarette and threw it out in the trash can behind them. He unbuttoned his blazer, and stepped out into the light drizzle. He turned around and looked at her again, this time with an accusing look on his face. “I don’t know if you’re avoiding the question to protect him or to protect yourself, but you should know. Your honesty is important tonight. Every word that leaves your lips carry more weight than you can possibly imagine. Be sure to choose them wisely, and to speak with sincerity.” He removed his blazer and handed it to her. “Since you say you like ice cream, which by the way was an excellent answer, use this to cover your head. I have a feeling it’s going to rain, and I didn’t park my car here because frankly I don’t trust Harvey. I really wish I brought an umbrella with me.” He paused,”For some reason I’m really craving an ice cream sundae with chocolate sauce, caramel, whipped cream, and sprinkles.” He said with a hint of excitement. After handing her the blazer he began leading her down the stone driveway, past the large gate, and back to the main road. The small droplets began to grow in size as the sky opened up with thick gray clouds. It began to pour.
As soon as he got outside he fished for the cigarettes in the inside breast pocket of his blazer. Upon finding them he opened the carton and moved one of the cigarettes to his lips. The smell of freshly cut grass lingered in the air around him as the cool night air felt refreshing on his skin. He thought about the woman he locked eyes with before lighting his cigarette. Of course he didn’t know her, but her gaze brought about a nostalgic feeling of longing that he had only experienced a few times in his life. It was almost like an unsatisfied longing. He lit his cigarette and took a pull. It felt heavenly, it dragged him away from the stresses he was dealing with in that moment. After blowing out the smoke, he noticed the door opening beside him. He smiled when he saw her. “I knew it would work. What did he do? Give you the whole night off?” He laughed to himself, “I don’t know why even the most intelligent people become so predictable when it comes to money.” He said as he offered her a cigarette. “I don’t think I caught your name.” He said as he took another drag. “I’m Reevus, Reevus Valentine.”
avoiding eyes and quick on her feet, ariel tore off her apron and hung it up in the closet in the kitchen and grabbed her sweater before heading back towards where she’d seen the man go. before she got to the door and paused and took a deep breath, not wanting to look too eager, not give away the relief that had settled over her. ‘ don’t let him make too good of an impression on you… ’ her master’s words rang through her mind. as much as she couldn't’ stand harvey, it felt too foreign now not to heed his warnings, so she stowed the thought just in the front of her mind. this was not a big deal, she was just entertaining one of harvey’s colleagues… right? the sweet night air gave her a fresh whip of reality and she looked around the door to see the figure with the cigarette between his lips, and as he smiled at her, she offered him the same. “ wow, how’d you guess? ” she scratched at the back of her neck. was it really so obvious that’d happen? it’d thrown her for quite a loop. at the mention of names ariel smiled, relaxing once again. “ i’m ariel, it’s a pleasure to meet you mr. valentine. ” out of habit, she bowed her head to him as she spoke. so ingrained.
He looked at her with a furrowed brow when he “If I’m being honest. I know because I would’ve done the same thing in his shoes.” He took another pull before speaking again. OOC
I'm back from a much needed vacation. I'll begin replies tomorrow.
He noticed her choice of words, but chose to ignore it. He smiled, “I understand. You have work to do. I’ll leave you to it.” He turned and began to walk away. After taking a few steps he stopped and turned back around again. “Actually. Why don’t you just tell your… boss… that I’m willing to donate as long as you get to take a break. I know he wants these people to open their wallets, and I already decided that I wasn’t going to donate anything.” He admitted. “I’m sure he’ll be willing to give you some time off. I’ll meet you outside.” He said as he began to head towards the exit, avoiding as many people as possible.
a profuse longing immediately gripped at ariel’s chest as he walked away from her the first time. she scolded herself on the inside for it though. what on earth else could she have been expecting to come of it? then, that feeling eased a little bit when she noticed him turning back again. she didn’t hesitate to listen to him attentively. his idea made her nervous, but despite it she gave him a small and wary smile. “ i’ll see what he says. ” she said, her words a little more confident this time, a little stronger. she watched him as he left, her heart rate beginning to incline. was she really about to go do this? he could be just another gross jerk like the throngs of other rich business types that came through there. worse yet, he could be just like harvey… she sighed and began to weave her way through the people, nodding occasionally as drink after drink was cleared from her tray by her master’s guests. she finally found him, arm around his wife’s shoulders, a small crowd of people around him laughing at something he’d just said (though most of them were pushing it, harvey was hardly funny). ariel took a deep breath before tapping his shoulder to grasp his attention. kathrine bonham observed her then with a poorly disguised look of disgust and hatred; a stark contrast to the warm, almost affectionate smile her husband gave. “ my apologies for interrupting, may i ask you something…? ” ariel asked softly, and harvey immediately obliged, excusing himself and leading her over to somewhere much quieter. once alone, he looked down at her expectantly and asked her what on earth could’ve been so important to approach him during an event. ariel steeled her nerves and took a deep breath before relaying to him what the man with the blue eyes had told her, and what he looked like (since she hadn’t quite caught his name). “ he said as long as i get some time he’ll donate… ” she paused for a moment, noting the furrow coming to her owner’s brow. “ it’s nonsense, i know. i shouldn’t have even– ” she began to backtrack, but harvey stopped her, pressing his forefinger to her mouth. “ go on and have a break then… as a matter of fact, have the rest of the night. ” his eyes were cloudy and calculating to her, and she couldn’t tell if this was a good thing or a bad thing. either way, it make anxiety grow in her chest like ice. “ don’t make too good of an impression on him, and don’t let him make too good of one on you. do you understand? ” ariel nodded obediently, eyes wide with slight confusion. then he left her there. after a moment of standing in disbelief, she ditched her tray and went out to find him again.
After blowing out the smokel he noticed the door opening beside him. “I’m Reevus, Reevus Valentine.”
where have you been? 0_0
Here. There. Everywhere. Mostly working though.
She knocked on the large door holding the takeout shed bought them. It wasn't extra agent but she'd gotten a large top so she wanted to do some thing nice.
“Ohhhh, you’re a life saver. Come on in. Excuse the mess I’vebeen working nonstop.”
Bailey smiled and walked in. “It’s fine. I just got off work so excuse me if i smell like the diner. ” she grinned and kissed his cheek as she moved to his kitchen. “Reevus. Why on earth have you been working so hard?”
“Ahhh the smell of burgers and grease always tickles my heart… or maybe that’s just heart burn.” He joked as she walked in. “Well I promised to unveil a new project and the deadline is closing in fast. So this disaster are is the result of that. How was work? He asked as he nonchalantly looked at her ass as she walked towards the kitchen.”
Bailey laughed. “Well I’m glad I could please. Sorry you are so overloaded. Maybe we can look at it before I leave. Nothing beats a fresh set of eyes.” She said. When he asked her about work she grinned. “Same old Pervy guys asking for my number. Me gracefully bowing out. I wish I could get a different job I just can’t quit and not have anything.”
“If you can stand looking at a bunch of code then sure, I don’t see why not. I’m sorry that you have to deal with all that. I don’t mind giving you a job if you really want to leave the diner.” He said while trying to get a peek at what she brought over.
She shook her head and handed him the food. She hadn’t planned on eating anyway. “No. I told you before you aren’t going to employ me. That wouldn’t be fair and I want to get a job on my own merit.” She said. “I would love getting to see you all day though.”
“Okay, I understand. It would be nice though.” He greedily opened the food container and began scarfing down the food. “It’s so good! Thank you Bailey!” He exclaimed. He moved back to the couch and began looking at a some of the papers that were on the seat next to him. “I hope that I can get this done in time.”
Bailey smiled and kissed his cheek. “I’m glad you like it.” She said softly picking up the code. She looked over it a few times. “This should be an if then statement rather than a when. Because as it’s written it’s incomplete.” She said softly. “I would write it like this.” She said and grabbed paper and a pin.
“ {if: on start program fails, Then: start reconstruction program;}
He smiled after she kissed his cheek. He then took the papers from her after she spoke and glanced over them. He noticed the mistake that she was talking about and quickly grabbed a pen to rectify the mistake. “Thank you Bailey! Look for more mistakes love. With your help I may just finish this. I hope you don’t have to work tomorrow. It’s going to be a long night.”
Bad Blood
She laughs softly, “I’ll never forget his face when his bubble headed daughter and the witty slacker took control back.” She looks down with a shake of her head. Taking a sip of her wine, her eyes meet his. “You used to sneak in through the garden, and when we’d make love I’d swear I could smell magnolia on your skin. When you’d leave, I could still smell you on my pillows.” He made her feel nostalgic, they’d been through so much together. She could think of dozens of memories that they shared. Times where they’d sat together and they had made plans, when he had given her equal share. “I remember when your secretary walked in on us screwing in the board room.” She giggled softly as she continues to gaze at him, “She dropped the files and ran out so fast we didn’t have time to stop, we kept going and she couldn’t look either of us in the eye for weeks. But all those memories don’t negate you screaming at me today, they don’t change the fact that you can’t accept how I work-you didn’t treat me like the person who’d been through a company coup with you, you treated me like an intern.”
“I don’t know what else to say. I don’t want us to be enemies. If it takes me stepping down and giving you control, then I’ll do it. That’s how much I trust you.” He said honestly. “I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you, because I love you.”
“It’s decided then.” Reevus got up and straightened his tie. He gave Stephano another quick glance before looking back at Isabella. “Well Ms. Thomasyn, this is where we part. I have an important date with a beautiful woman tomorrow and I need to get some rest.” He joked. “I look forward to tomorrow night.” He reached over to her hand and moved it to his lips, giving it a small kiss. He moved his mouth over to her and whispered, “I just did that just to see the look on Stephano’s face. Look.” Reevus looked over at her bodyguard and chuckled a little bit. He looked over at her once again and smiled. “You have a good night Isabella, and thank you for the drink.” Reevus headed for the exit and gave Stephano a small wave. It was reciprocated with a death stare. Reevus chuckled again as he walked outside. He got into his car and drove home.
Iz nearly laughed as she watched the Stephanos snickered in dislike at Reevus’ affection. She nodded, waving him a slow goodbye as he walked out.
The next day, the woman was ready just in time. She did herself as well as she could, trying not to go over the top although she has the tendency to that sometimes. She waited and only came down once Stephanos announced that her date has arrived.
She was so stunning that he couldn’t even keep eye contact. He looked down at the ground then up at her again. “ You look… Wow… I mean… Wow.” He said nervously. He quickly moved over to the single table in the center of room and pulled the chair out for her. “I’ve been looking forward to tonight all day.” He admitted.
