Come close and let me tell you a secret: I only watched the original Blade Runner in full two weeks ago, I'm such a fake fan đ
BUT I saw 2049 when it came out and fell deeply in love with the setting, the premise, the gorgeous atmosphere and set pieces. So much of that movie just struck all the right notes for me. I know it's slow for some people, but I love love love the pacing. I rewatched it recently and had a fantastic time đ± They put so much work into the props and environments and the world looks so rich and lived-in because of it; I feel like I don't see production done so well and on such a massive scale like that very often. And don't even get me started on the themes. What does it mean to be real? What makes something valuable? There's no clear answer, and Villeneuve doesn't pretend to give us one, but I like to think that belief plays a powerful role.
K and Deckard are such interesting characters. They're not heroes, just jaded men thrown into extraordinary circumstances. The OG Blade Runner doesn't even bother trying to convince us Deckard is a good person, because he's not, and that's so compelling because the premise of the original really has nothing to do with the morality of the protagonist. K, on the other hand, has a lot more innocence to him, and I think it's hope that drives him. He wants what he can't have - connection - and believes so strongly in its importance that he's willing to sacrifice himself to give Deckard, who's more or less a total stranger, the possibility of it. I could go on about that for ages, but I digress.
I also read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep last year and it was SO interesting, I'm definitely going to read it again âïž Science fiction from that era has such a philosophical tilt.

Absolutely does not want to admit it to himself and feels like he needs to punish himself if ever his thoughts get away from him and he begins to imagine that you might like him too.
When heâs around you, heâs never felt less functional. Heâs not sure how to explain it, but all logical thought seems to escape him, he stutters, his stomach feels funny⊠he wonders if heâs malfunctioning in some way.
He notices the pattern after a while though of course; itâs only ever when youâre there. Unfortunately, distancing himself only makes him think about you more and he starts to experience other problems. Like with parts of his body heâs not used to having problems with.

Really, the only way to resolve this would be when you finally ask to take him out. Heâs very quiet through the date, very unsure where exactly this is going. But he does start to feel a little less panicked and a little more hopeful.
And when you eventually get to sex he finally understands that what his body was trying to tell him was okay to feel.
