what is your opinion on fandom-y tattoos? im considering getting a harry potter related tattoo, but not one of the god-awful cliche ones that everyone on instagram has. is getting a fandom tattoo inherently cringeworthy?

Fandom tattoos can be awesome! The trick is good quality and execution, and an original idea. If I see one more Deathly Hallows wrist tattoo, I'm going to scream. I've reblogging some really good fandom tattoos on here before, so try giving it a search!

So my friend wants to get watercolor tattoos, how do I explain that will age like shit?

Explain that without a hard edged outline, the colors bleed out faster because skin cells move, die, and get replaced. Skin is as static as it appears. Outlines help slow this process and disguise it when it starts to happen.

Let’s play a game called ‘Normal or Be Concerned’!

So I just got my first tattoo, and I’m a little confused. I’ve read a lot on tattoo aftercare/ the healing process and I have questions!!!

1) My tat will be a week old Friday (11/10), and it’s still a little tender. Normal or something to be concerned about?

2) It’s at the itchy/peeling stage. But there’s no scabs: it’s peeling like a sunburn. Normal or be concerned?

I know it’s probably stupid but, yeah if someone could shoot me answers I’d appreciate it.

Both normal. Only big things to be concerned about this far into the healing process are swelling and heat. Both are signs of an infection.

I only know this because I went to Germany last year haha. My personal faves are Laura Yahna and Guen Douglas, but both work at shops with a bunch of amazing artists (Pechshwarz and Taiko Gallery respectivey). They're both based in Berlin though.

your bio says 18 so i hope you’re right and whatever career you plan on going into allows hand tattoos but you should definitely be aware of the consequences of all tattoos, ESPECIALLY hand tattoos. they WILL limit your opportunities. with everything. wish you the best!

Guess what, a lot of places require in person interviews to get a job, to get a loan, to rent a home/apartment/whatever. And people will judge you for having a hand tattoo. You can be 100% perfect on paper but there are ignorant people who will look at someone and judge by what they see. So. Yeah. Hand tattoos are a bad idea for a first tattoo Everytime I’ve gone for an interview or looked at a rental property, I have hidden my tattoos. The world sucks, but you need to be able to function in it.

On the upside at least it doesn’t look like shit. Solid, clean lines.

Agh, I don’t hate this but I dont like the way Ponyo + Co. are put on top of the outlines of the rectangles (which I think is the ship if I remember correctly). It’s also a tiny bit wobbly in places and might have some aging issues due to how fine those lines are. I dunno. It really isn’t bad; it doesn’t totally catch your eye and blow you away but some tattoos are better understated.

It isn't bad per se. But to take the bright, punchy colors of the original film and smash them into skin tone submission feels...rude.
