Nein Again is on THE episode 72 so I decided to do the unthinkable and compile the accent slips and hints to Fjord’s 72 ep long con (not including his disguises of course, bc that’s an entirely different compilation on it’s own).

I saw a post where someone claimed they only made fjord a bad communicator in the animated show and that he is aligned in some way with "weaponized incompetence"... just say you don't understand fjord stone.

Fjord stone who regularly avoided talking about his trauma and redirected attention to other people so he didn't have to address things? The fjord stone who only talked about things when directly pressed for it and often lied to avoid dealing with it? Fjord stone who lost his powers and was straight up going to abandon the team to get them back, who told not a soul about it until 11 episodes later?

Fjord stone who used a fake accent for 70 episodes and only jester got confirmation it was fake earlier because she figured it out? Fjord who would've kept hiding the fact that he shaved down his tusks if in episode 15 matt hadn't pointed out blood on the corner of his lips leading to jester being more invasive and taking it upon herself to see his tusks were gone?

Fjord who took 118 episodes to work up the courage to ask a girl for kiss because he believed she didn't like him and was too afraid to get any response?

Fjord has ALWAYS been bad at communicating and a skilled liar. He was raised in an environment that punished him for trying to be open and more transparent. He's always had to mask himself. He's not weaponizing incompetence by not knowing how to do shit when he got the powers 2 days ago that he didn't even know existed.

Yes he's more obviously insecure in the show, which has a lot to do with them crunching the timeline so he has no chance to get used to things. They also claimed his content wasn't changed much when originally fjord was much more in a leadership position and more confident/willing to take charge.

Also: he's not using weaponized incompetence because he has in fact on several occasions helped save the team and been the reason the Tides have turned. It's not "weaponized incompetence" to not want to use an item that has given you horrible visions. It's not weaponized incompetence to not know how to use abilities you just got. He'd have to actively be doing things wrong to get other people to compelte his duties for him to be using weaponized incompetence. And since he very much wants the team to think of him as useful, that isn't want he's doing.

So many fans don't understand fjord and they go "oh I bet show fjord fans will be mad" me as a general fjord fan is because you're acting like i can't be frustrated when your shitting on him and don't actually understand his table top content. Like you can't just ignore that he was raised in an intensely abusive environment where emotional vulnerability was always met with pain and then act like him hiding shit is stupid.

Had to jump into nein again for episode 61 because it has one of my favorite displays of how dice rolls can align with the narrative in dnd.

Fjord, a character who is proficient in charisma and is the go-to for deception, rolls a nat 1 deception at the Overcrow right after losing his powers for the first time. A nat 1 so perfectly timed it might as well come with a sign that says “YOUR CHARACTER HAS HIT ROCK BOTTOM”. And this is where Travis’ rp really shines because mechanically, losing his powers doesn’t change his charisma, yet he turns it into a genuinely devastating moment for Fjord, reinforcing Fjord’s already troubled mindset that he’s worthless without his powers. He panics and encourages the group to go on without him and runs away (which Travis confirmed was Fjord genuinely wanting to leave the party had Yasha not followed him). Then he continues to build on it when he tries to summon the little bird for Yasha, with that desperate delivery of “wasn’t it?”.

And this is just a portion of how well Travis plays Fjord trying to repress a breakdown throughout the episode. The switch to Fjord’s real accent when panicking. Hiding the sword under the mattress followed by the desperate aggression when telling the innkeeper to stay away from his room. Then followed by Fjord physically having to gear himself up to put on a mask and greet the party. Him just completely disassociating not even participating in the group vote. The strained agitation in his voice when he starts getting impatient searching for the Overcrow. That entire conversation with Wursh. It’s all so good.

God the moment where Fjord first loses his powers here is so great. Fjord desperately testing more and more powers, only for none of them to work. Matt and the cast being silent as Fjord panics adds such a gravity to it

So, I redid all of my Might Nein stained glass windows! Ironically, this is the last place I’m posting them as opposed to the first time I posted them ONLY on here! Hoping to post more here since I just.. I love the community here ;3; I actually finished all nine of the Nein this time around in a convenient rainbow! First up is Yasha Nydoorin!

Next in the series is Fjord! He’s the only one I didn’t draw last time which is weird with how much I love him.. so he was the first one I drew in the series this time around!

i love this sort of paralleling dichotomy the mighty nein show has created, where when we see caleb and molly reach out to do something potentially self-destructive, someone steps in to stop them.

but when fjord is about to, he actually ends up doing it, because no one is there to stop him.
