I always miss out on @dragon-age-met-gala 🫠 , so I decided to whip up something real quick. Because of the timing, I kept the designs simple. For rook, her wings are inspired by the iconic Christian Dior gold wing cape. For Lucanis I thought it’d be real sweet if Lucanis’s corvid cloak evolved to include stitching inspired by Rook’s motif, like Minrathous symbolism and dove imagery..... I didn’t have time to design that part, but if you can do me a favor and just imagine it that'd be dope.

On the topic of art style, the glowy rookanis ballroom style I created was basically a distillation of everything I loved about art that I could do at a slightly quicker pace compared to my professional fantasy work. That and professional work was taking a lot of time to come out of nda while my portfolio laid bare.

It means a lot that it’s being recognised...and kinda accepted??. So much so that last year clients started asking for that style instead of my fantasy work. I’ve been using it more for bookish clients, so if you spot it in the wild, you’ll know where it all began.🥹 There's a big ballroom one coming too. (above pieces for "The Poisoner" by Ophelia, the right ones are for Quicksilver Callie hart (Lilac Library ed) Last artist POV: I used to think you had to look a certain way to fit into the market, but I’m learning now that you can also carve out where you fit (or tell the market what it can look like), which is something I hadn’t considered before. I guess a word of comfort for a past me.

But if not for kneeling, why kneeling shaped? I think I've painted him pining and yearning, but I really wanted to paint him somewhat at peace with the final decisions, even a tad bit satisfied? and with self-acceptance, because ultimately he is a man who does kneel. (in my head canon anyways) I've also painted him kneeling here. Possible missed detail after the jump~

His eyes are actually open. This piece is inspired by JC Leyendecker's "New Rochelle" piece, I have a few more rookanis leyendecker studies comin~ Also if you want a brilliant fic where Lucanis does end up kneeling and dramatically so, @rookanis-de-riva has finished there amazing indulgent fic for me. The first chapter is sfw, and then it just goes wildly nsfw so mind the tags.

Lucanis x Rook - Bridgerton Inspired.

Any Bridgerton fans? I saw their new release stills the other day and couldn’t help but incorporate them into my color sketch explorations.

Also, I’ve been playing with the names "A Crow’s Ball" or "A Treviso Ball" for this series. Which do you prefer? I’m open to suggestions!

Happy New Year! I realized I never painted my Rook's actual gear and it's just been ballgowns 😅. I have a few rookanis collabs, comms in mind for this year...and a potential commission request from a Veilguard voice actor?!? We'll see if it comes to fruition (it might not, but it'd be dope!).
