6. Things you said under the stars and in the grass

Bailey could feel the slow beating of Ajay’s heart under her ear, and she found herself aching to hold him even closer than she already was. His hand was rubbing up and down her back, giving her chills despite the warm weather. It was a cloudless night and the stars were out, capturing her attention and making her feel like it was just her and Ajay left in the world. As he leaned down to press a kiss to the top of her head, she knew if that was really the case, she wouldn’t mind.

“You’re certainly quiet,” he mused, hand meandering up to her hair and brushing the strands with his fingers.

“Are you complaining?”

“Well, you’ve never hesitated to speak your mind...it’s a little suspicious.”

“What do you think I’m thinking about?” Bailey sat up, pulling his wrist to get him to follow her. Pulling his legs in, he sat across from her on the blanket.

“Hm...diving deep into the inner workings of Bailey....a tough task,” he mused, pretending to think hard with his index finger tapping his chin. She laughed and held his other hand up to her cheek, leaning into his touch. His eyes softened as he looked at her, completely enamored.

“I was thinking about how beautiful it is,” she said, tilting her head back to look at the sky, navy blue dotted with bright white.

His gaze stayed on her face. “You are.” She looked back down, blushing and hiding her smile behind a palm. He grabbed it and pulled it away from her face, placing his hand under her chin. Leaning forward, he pressed a sweet kiss to her lips, mouth languidly moving against hers. “You are.”
