I don't care what anyone says, High School Jess was still good for Rory. I agree he wasn't the best person and he treated her like shit at times, but this is also coming from a kid who never got a true family experience and who never understood what it felt like to be truly loved and cared for, and I think he just didn't know how to respond to it. And that's why he left in the first place. He thought that she deserved better and he would never be good enough. That's also why he went back to her after all those years, and why he never stopped loving her. Because she was the first person to treat him like a human and not just the local degenerate and he was hoping that she would see how much he matured and was hoping that he would finally be enough for her, but by then she had become immature. They swapped places. But he knew he got better and was hoping she would too, hence him STILL not being over her in AYITL. Jess was the best Rory boyfriend, not because of how he treated her, but because of how he wanted to and how he never lost hope for her even when he lost it in himself.
