“Nothing. I’m just curious” Cole knew by Lili’s tone of voice not to challenge her. She was definitely not in the mood and Cole was too sleepy to really care. If she wanted to eat pop tarts in bed then who was he to stop her? It wasn’t bothering him and anything that made Lili happy was worth it. Especially with her up and down mood swings all the time. Cole was contemplating going back to sleep. He was just tired enough that he was sure if he shut his eyes for a while he had a decent chance of it happening but he kept them open. He was awake now so he’d just stay up and he was sure Lili’s phone would’ve kept him up if he hadn’t. 

He shoved the covers back, not bothering with a shirt and made his way into the kitchen to start on his first cup of coffee. Being so early he was sure he’d have a few more before the day was up. He tried to be quiet and quick so as not to wake Brooklyn and once he had a mug of black coffee in his hand, made his way back to the bedroom to settle back into bed. “Anything fun happening on tik tok?” 

The good thing about Cole was that it really took a lot to get him riled up. He wasn’t quick to anger and defiance like Lili was; the bad thing was when she tried to annoy him, it rarely worked. Lili watched as he disappeared from the bedroom to (presumably) get coffee, the creature of habit that he was, and her TikToks dulled to a mild roar in the background as she sighed. She tried to wriggle against her pillows to get more comfortable but the effort was fruitless. When he came back in, she looked at him with a glare. “No.”

And that was her answer. She shut off her phone and pulled the covers over her bed, temporarily suffocating herself, but it was for the sake of drama.

Cole had been peacefully sleeping. Something that wasn’t too unusual for five am in the morning on a day that neither he nor Lili had to work. Usually they were up with the sun and already in the car on the way to set so not having to be out of the house at the crack of dawn was always a nice reprieve from their regular routine. It was already getting warmer in Vancouver too so being able to stay under the aircon was also nice. 

It was only when Cole felt a kick to his leg that he brought his senses back to the land of the living. He could hear Lili opening what he could only assume was a pop tart of some kind. They were definitely a go to of hers lately and Cole had struggled explaining to Brooklyn why she couldn’t eat them at all hours of the day like her mother could. “Are you eating poptarts in bed again?” He asked Lili, refusing to move from his comfortable position.

“Yeah, so?” Lili grumbled in response to his question. She was a grown woman, she could do what she wanted. She’d regret this later when she had to change sheets due to all the crumbs she distributed but that was a Later!Lili problem. His back was still turned to her and if she hadn’t been so attuned to Cole, she wouldn’t have even heard what he was saying. His voice was thick with sleep and she could see him drifting back into dreamland in a matter of seconds.

With a huff, Lili shifted in the bed and grabbed her phone to turn it on. The brightness was high and she pulled up her TikTok app, not bothering to turn down her full volume. A part of her did feel guilty but the bigger part just felt petty and victorious. If Mama couldn’t sleep, nobody could sleep.

Lili really wasn’t having a good morning.

She had woken up with a sore back and an overfull bladder. Looking over at Cole, who was peacefully passed out to the world with his mouth open, her temper flared that he could just sleep. He didn’t have a care in the world. He didn’t have to wake up every few hours to pee or feel the alien life form in his body kicking his belly hard or even make an effort to just simply sit up in bed. He was getting the easy end of this deal and that made Lili irrationally furious. In retrospect, she should’ve known this was coming. Her hormones had been awful when she was pregnant with Brooklyn and she had spent most of it either crying or getting annoyed with Cole. But she had thought that since their relationship was so much better this time around, it wouldn’t be so bad.

Hmm.

Brooks was still fast asleep as it was only five am and Lili tried to be quiet as she snuck into the kitchen to prepare herself some breakfast. Toast, eggs, avocado, oatmeal...any of them would’ve been healthier than the two brown cinnamon Pop-Tarts she grabbed but Lili didn’t care. She made her way back into the bedroom and climbed into bed, not caring that she kicked Cole’s leg in the process or that she was noisy ripping open the cellophane wrapper. She took a bite out of her breakfast and stared straight ahead in the darkness, pouting.

The second trimester with Brooks was so much easier than it is with this little one. I can’t seem to find the energy to get out of bed.

I hope I haven’t but I also think she’ll be fine. We’ve never really had any crazy toddler issues with her. She’ll probably just be excited about the baby.

There’s still time, honey. There’s still time...I’ve yet to hear about a toddler that didn’t go through their ‘terrible’ stage.

That’s true, I’m sure she’ll eventually adjust. She’s an easy going toddler so I doubt she’ll have a hard time.

You say that now and then we have a terrible lil’ toddler running around. You better not have jinxed us.

I don’t know, I just figured it’d be easier and maybe better explained but we can just tell her and see what happens.

I think we try to explain it as simply as we can and if she doesn’t get it...well, she will eventually when she has to share Mommy and Daddy’s attention.

I’m not really sure. I don’t think she’s old enough to understand and I’m not sure she will by the time they arrive either. Maybe we can find a book or something?

How would a book help better than us telling her? I’m curious. Maybe we just tell her Mommy has a baby in her tummy and that they’re going to be just like her, and she gets to help take care of them? A real life baby doll. She’ll definitely get excited over that.

How do you think we should break the news to Brooks that she’s going to be a big sister?

I didn’t say it was bad, It’s just out there. 

I know, I’m just teasing you. I liked our other options better anyways.

Lemon or Lennon? I think Lemon itself is a little crazy but Lennon’s not too bad.

Lemon! Fine. I guess we veto Lemon. You’re no fun.

It’s cute, we can definitely call them that.

Lemon would be a cute name too. Or am I just getting too wacky over here?

Hardly. I’ve never been pregnant but it’s the size of a lemon right now.

Then he...or she is our little lemon. What do you think of that?

sprousec​:

Sure, whatever you like. Have any suggestions?

You’re the pregnancy expert man. Just what is the size of baby number two right now in my tummy?

sprousec​:

Good. I’m proud of you. I know it’s not easy but you’re an amazing Mom and Brooks, fetus and I are lucky to have you.

And I’m lucky to have you guys. But maybe we can give baby number two a new nickname? Fetus makes me cringe.

Well that’s nice. It’s good that they seemed happy about it. Hopefully it stays that way.

And if it doesn’t...I don’t think I care anymore. All I care about is if it makes us happy.

And? What did they say?

My dad says someone has to give him a boy or he’s going to go insane, and my mom said congratulations. I think she’s genuinely happy for us, though.
