The Order of the Guide has done a lot of archival work -- after all, their entire purpose is to prevent the sort of worldwide loss of knowledge that brought civilization to its knees post-war. So, somewhere, there's a record of a collective of powerful factions who retreated into an underground dungeon following the war.

At the same time, even most Guides focus the majority of their efforts on memorizing practical info like alchemical recipes; forget expecting the common man to have heard of a random dungeon from 500 years ago. Not that Andrew, who absolutely does know the history of the Dungeon, is particularly helping Chris in this case. Or the Skeleton Merchant for that matter, who's perfectly happy to laugh at Chris and then dip out.
