Count Binface has released his manifesto for the Clacton By Election and it includes some banger pledges.
None of the major parties are standing in the by-election for Nigel Farage's Clacton seat, a 'funny' I did not see coming - the Green Party is the only one worth a damn anyway
So the only people against him are Count Binface, the Monster Raving Looney Party, Rejoin the EU Party and Reclaim leader and Class A twat Laurence Fox
dropping some context for people who don't know. nigel farage is the guy leading the reform party in the uk, which is a far-right anti-immigration party currently leading in the polls to a frankly silly extent. anyhoo he's in the midst of a big corruption scandal - undisclosed funds, all that, look it up - and also the general scandal of being annoying. his plan to fight this is to resign as MP (a Member of Parliament, representing their constituency (location) for a party (they may be independent) and run a by-election, meaning they have another election to determine their MP, of which he is running. the goal here is to theoretically consolidate power - if he gets voted in, he gets to say (with how much legitimacy is something you have to decide) 'the people represent me, i am the rightful MP of my constituency and have the democratic mandate and blah blah blah'. this is annoying because by-elections cost a lot of money, that the taxpayers (the constituency he is running in) have to pay for so he can do his little consolidating power ritual.
all the major (and less major, like restore) parties - Labour, Conserva(tories), Greens, Lib Dems, and so on are not running a candidate so as not to legitimise the by-election. who IS running is 'count binface', a joke candidate (these are quite common in the UK because the cost to be a political entity is a lot lower) with a fair amount of buzz, and as expected, laughable policies like 'build one affordable house'. he is also the most well-known figure running against farage by far, and remember farage is dealing with a scandal and the political cost of causing this stupid by-election. here's hoping count binface wins!
people in the uk are like "but what if binface wins?!" as if the track record of reform councillors etc doesn't make it an absolute certainty that binface will do a better job
Okay I must confess: I do not actually find Count Binface very funny. I think as a comedian he is truly, terribly middling. Every one of his joke proposals or platforms seems designed to amuse my father, and that is not high praise. However. His presence is hilarious. There is nothing funnier to me than a room or stage full of politicians in suits and ties, and Count Binface. Now that Binface for the Commons is, if still a pipe dream, a slightly more plausible pipe dream, we have to face the reality of the bit becoming stale. I think that if he gets into parliament he has to drop the jokes - keep the outfit and voice though - and just stand there in the Commons doing normal MP stuff while everyone around him either tries to ignore him or to take him seriously. This is the only way a Binface tenure can be funny.
For those who are not closely following UK politics, Newsnight is the BBC's news and current affairs programme; a serious programme for serious events.
And this was a serious political panel discussion.
i love every media clip of "journalists" trying to hold count binface to standard and then he just points out nigel farage has consistently not met those standards
I have been inspired by recent political events
catching up on how the clacton by-election is shaping up and this sequence had me rolling
Everyone needs to see this video the Liberal Democrats posted to TikTok
If Count Binface actually wins (not necessarily impossible; just look at what happened to the Conservative leader in Canada's last election), Nigel Farage isn't going to resign as head of Reform. One of his underlings will resign from parliament and he'll run in ANOTHER by-election for their seat instead (just look at what happened to the Conservative leader in Canada's last election...)
What I'm saying is the UK needs more gimmick candidates to be ready to follow him wherever he goes.
looks like reform hogs are scraping the bottom of the bin for the tiniest bit of dirt. it takes a bin to clean up clacton!
context under the cut. british politics are very silly
