Hey Tumblr, it’s been a while. I got married three weeks ago to the love of my life. We met on this blog nearly three years ago!

I'd be so embarrassed if someone (or your future child) asks how you two met and you'll answer "Tumblr ". This is a hellsite

Hahaha well we generally say we met “on a blogging website” when someone asks. It does seem strange to have met on tumblr, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I never expected I’d meet my future wife online but that’s just how it happened and God used this “hellsite” for his own purposes.

Thank you! Well April and I met on tumblr at the very end of 2016. It’s funny because we’d both been on tumblr years before and had even followed some of the same people but not each other until April remade her account. We say it was Hamilton and Star Wars that got us talking because I had just discovered Hamilton which April loves, and she was just watching the Star Wars movies for the first time which I love. So that’s how we became friends.

We have a lot of similar interests which was important for building that friendship until we started realizing just how much we liked each other. April’s dad had a conference near where I lived in June of 2017, and April’s whole family flew out for it and I met them for the first time. April and I went on our first date and decided to make it official.

I moved to Florida in July 2017 for my internship at a church. I was about an hour and a half from where her grandparents lived, so I would visit with them every few weeks. April and I took turns flying to visit each other and some of our dates included Broadway shows, Disney World, and mini golfing. Definitely a special time in our relationship, learning to communicate and trust God’s plans for us.

I accepted a position at a church as the Children’s Ministry Director back in Nebraska where my family lives, and moved here in July 2018. April and her family visited and both our families met for the first time in October. After that visit I called her dad and we had the talk. He gave me his blessing and I bought the ring the next day.

I conspired with April’s family to surprise her by flying out for Thanksgiving. April pretty much knew I would propose on the next visit, but she thought that would be after Christmas. She had no idea I would be there, and I proposed the Monday before Thanksgiving, November 19, 2018.

April came home from work to find me waiting at her house. I led her into a room that was set up with a fire in the fireplace, flowers and a picture of her when she was little that her mom put out. I told her God had been answering our prayers in amazing ways and he was about to answer one more. When I asked her to marry me she said “OB COURSE” before I had even finished (yes, she was so excited she said OB instead of OF).

Now the wedding planning begins! We will get married in Connecticut in the fall and begin our life together here in Nebraska. That’s our story! Pray for the planning and transitions and for April to find a good teaching job here.

How did you guys do it? How did you make it to the end game? I’m finding it hard to make it through the month. 😢

I don’t know if I’d call this the end game, that’d be when we all get to join Jesus in heaven 😊 but for us it was challenging dating long distance for a year and a half, and most of our engagement will be long distance too. No matter what you’re going through you have to keep reminding yourself that it will get better. Think about the things you are looking forward to and don’t dwell on the negatives. And pray about it!

Haven’t been here in a while, but in case you are wondering... about this time last year, my friendship with @ohhelloitsa was forming thanks to tumblr. Now we’ve been dating almost ten months and I love her so much ❤️
