Neither a confirmation nor a denial. Interesting. Hades chose to view the other’s lack of response as a confirmation, and he would approach the other as such. Not to mention the sudden offer of a free drink, which he accepted by ordering a pint for himself. He didn’t think that a small place like this offered ambrosia, unless it really was Bacchus behind the counter.
“Older than you, I imagine. How familiar are you with the so-called Greek myths? Of the Underworld?”
Hades wanted to see what he knew. Sometimes, it was easier to simply say his name around someone who knew what those ‘myths’ were. Who he was. It saved him some time by introducing himself as Hades, Lord of the Underworld, husband of Persephone, brother of Zeus and Poseidon, etc etc.
CONSIDER ADONIS INTRIGUED . greek myths weren’t something he was frightfully familiar with , but he’d be stupid not to know of them . they held a great presence in this world ( humans always want something magical to hang onto , because they weren’t happy with their own mundane lives ) . adonis had pretty plenty of stories , books , and history of such gods and goddesses , and he knew the name , at least , of the one that resided in the underworld .
‘ so hades , then , ’ he murmurs against the brim of his glass , before taking down the rest of his drink . eyes turns to a man and woman at the bar , who are staring at them . the couple immediately turns away from the golden intensity . ‘ i’ve read about you , ’ the kraken leans back in his seat , crossing his arms over his chest , an omnipresent grin set at the corners of his lips . ‘ i guess this is sort of an honor , huh ? ’
she stops dead in her tracks, hand on an arrow that’s perched in the quiver on her back, bow down by her side ready to come up at the slightest movement. arrows were much easier for her than guns, quieter and less likely to scare off anything else in the area. but the sound she hears doesn’t sound like any normal animal. a step back as she glances around the wooded area before finally calling out. “ i’ll stick this arrow between your eyes if you try anything… ”

THERE WERE ALWAYS PEOPLE IN THESE WOODS . more and more everyday , looking for something they would never find . reed ventured far from his cabin most days , and found humans lurking with curiosity and excitement , hoping to get a glimpse of a sasquatch . but all they ever found was reed , a human looking man , and disappointment , before they were asked to leave . this woman , however , was different - she carried a bow and arrow , not a camera . reed steps out from behind a tree , staring at her with cautious eyes . ‘ i won’t try anything , ’ he assures , leaning against the tree’s truck for support . ‘ so please - don’t do that , ’

King eyed the stranger up and down, but kept his charming smile. “Don’t worry, I know this area well,” he reassured. “You can ride on Fritz whilst I guide us out of here, if you like?”
WELL , HE DOES LOVE HORSES . somehow mystical creatures , though there’s nothing really special about them . ‘ p - perhaps i will just... hold his mane for c - comfort , ’ he gently places a hand in the hair at fritz’s neck , before turning his gaze back to the unknown wilderness . ‘ a - a - after you , ’

“ Tate ,” he offered back , if only to be polite . His surname was skipped over just to be safe ; It didn’t seem like he recognized his face at all , but he didn’t want to take a chance with the name ringing a bell . The Langdon name was besmirched now , after the shooting in 1977 . Books were written about him , documentaries made , episodes were written on plenty of those true crime TV series . Tate use to watch them out of curiosity as to what was said about him , but he stopped after none of them ever got the story right ; It seemed Constance once again got away with her reputation intact . No one would ever know the truth of what he’d endured growing up , that made him so damn unstable .
“ Yeah , you do ,” he agreed . “ I could’ve just left you out there for the world to see .” A crooked smile once again crawled upon the boy’s features . “ That would have been funnier in hindsight .” But cruel . Tate was genuinely trying to be a better person , even if it meant helping out this weird , old alcoholic . “ … If you want to lay here on the couch for a little bit , you can . I can get you a glass of water , but we don’t have any food . You just look like you’re about to fall over .” If they were quiet enough , they wouldn’t disturb any of the other spirits . he didn’t want Hayden coming along , poking her nose where it didn’t belong .
HE SHOULDN’T STAY ANY LONGER THAN HE ALREADY HAS . it’s true that the transformation is long over , but the consequences , the repercussions ( if there were any to come ) would not be far behind . and he didn’t want this kid , tate , involved anymore than he already was . ‘ glad you didn’t , ’ he says of being left out in the yard . finley could have gotten pretty far by himself , but not without some questions , some prying eyes . again , the man finds himself grateful , if only for a moment .
‘ ah - i’ll take th’water , but then i gotta split , ’ he comes to this final conclusion after hearing sirens close by . no guarantee they were coming after him - this was la , after all - but it was better to be safe than sorry . fin leans down to take up the sheet once more , folding it three times over his arm and setting it neatly back on the couch he had once laid on . ‘ your maid might wanna wash that again , ’ he shrugs . it can’t be helped . there’s a moment when finley just stands , still catching his bearings , before he spots a dusty pad of paper and a pen on the coffee table . ‘ if you wanna cash in on that favor , just call , ’ he explains , writing down a 10 digit phone number and his first name , before handing it off to tate . ‘ and if y’don’t mind - don’t tell anyone you saw me . ’

NEVERMIND I REMEMBERED ;

“And I’ve never met someone like you. Whatever you are.”
She remembered reading about a few beings who were really hairy, but he didn’t strike him as a Yeti or an Abominable Snowman. But she wasn’t the type to care , and she shook her head at his question. At least he wasn’t one of those who lashed out at vampires, and it was more than enough for her.
“Mr. Pine it is, then. Until you start smelling like something else.”
OTHER SUPERNATURAL BEINGS TOOK A HATING TO REED . in their eyes , he was no longer one of them , but a human ; stooping to their level , as they would put it . as his family had put it . but reed had a responsibility , and he needed to blend in , be something he wasn’t . it was just... easier this way . ‘ i didn’t know you were here , ’ he admits with a flat tone , watching her closely . ‘ i’m normally pretty good about knowing who’s in my forest , ’ words sound territorial . ‘ what did you come here for ? doesn't look like you’re camping . ’
i had the perfect fc for reed’s brother in my head last night and now i can’t remember . i’m Mad .
“You’re my favorite,” he said offhand. “Favorite what?” she wondered aloud. “Oh, well,” he stammered. “Well, just that. My favorite pair of eyes to look into. My favorite name to see appear on my phone. My favorite way to spend an afternoon. Fill in the blank, Beautiful…I left it at favorite for a reason.” “You’re my favorite too,” she whispered.

the third drink had already disappeared in a matter of minutes before she’s flagging the bartender down again. “ hey…how much for the whole damn bottle? ” because one or two more drinks just wasn’t going to cut it for her anymore. “ promise i won’t get shitfaced and try to dance on your bar or somethin’. ”
@remainsunseen // sc.
IT’S A QUARTER PAST MIDNIGHT . malakai pushes through the pain in his shoulders , and past the bar back , to get to the woman who was calling for him . ‘ i’ve heard that one before , ’ he exclaims , grabbing for the bottle and setting it on the counter . ‘ no one’s ever been able t’keep it before . 20 bucks , ’ it’s half full still , and she hadn’t given malakai any hassle . ‘ less , if you wanna forget you made that promise at all , ’ he’s joking . mostly . dry sense of humor barely travels over the music .

She smiled a little. Some books weren’t for everyone, and she wouldn’t be insulted if he told her that he really wasn’t interested. Cassia didn’t like some books too, and no one had judged her for it. Then again, she hardly knew anyone who liked reading as much as she did. Even when she was training, she read books to keep her mind off of things.
“They are, but that’s just my opinion. —- you like the classics?”
A question posed once she saw the book he held out to her. She leaned forward to read the title, her eyes widening a little. The only Bronte novel she’d read was Jane Eyre, and she’d loved it. It was romantic, thrilling, and dark in some parts. A perfect blend of the things one could experience every day.
“I have a copy of Jane Eyre, if you haven’t read it before. I mean… I know we just met, but maybe you’d want to swap books? You lend me one of yours and I lend you one of mine?”
She probably wasn’t explaining that concept very well.
SHE’S NICE . too nice ? in the back of quinten’s mind , he’s unsure if he should trust her . so far , however , she hasn’t tried anything , and though the man is not naive , he does realize that the paranoia was not needed . at least not at this moment in time . ‘ th - the classics ? o - oh , yes ! ’ face brightens that much more , thinking of the literature he has back in the small cabin he resided in .
‘ i d - don’t have much to offer , but... i would be delighted to... swap books with you , ’ he can’t believe what he’s saying , but as he returns wuthering heights to his back pocket , quin realizes he means it . ‘ i haven’t read j - j - jane eyre , but i would like to , ’ he would like to read most books , he’s found out . hands begin to wring again as he mulls over several thoughts in his head . ‘ my home is... n - not far . i don’t normally allow g - guests , b - but if you’d like to come and take a look... ’ sentence ends with a worried expression her way .
