It's kind of interesting the point at which you cross the gap between 'desiring to glow' and 'batting away moths'.
Or like, I think on some level the fantasy of the would-be-hypno-domme is to have the kind of influence that guides others to you. To be a someone that people talk about and fantasize about. To have your own little cult of personality and carve your name into the world.
Dominance is socially mediated, and hypnosis explores the degrees to which it is. You know that, at some point, in your subject, you cease to be operating in the image of an idealized domme, and the idealized domme begins to be operating in the image of you.
Within a social space this concept is magnified. You become the in-joke, the language of the space, the rite of passage. There's a gravity to you. Radiance reflected across myriad mirrors. Everyone wants this to happen. At what point are we all just playing with allusions towards you?
It's an alluring fantasy in part because of how automatic it is. To not need to express dominance but to simply define it. To not need to express submission but to simply have it be destined. Unfortunately, reality is not so kind as to permit apotheosis. As well, at this point I don't particularly find that kind of end-state hot.
It's a bad end, really, and not one I desire to experience. "You became a cult leader and burned up." I don't trust the ability of any group to maintain kayfabe about such a thing, either. But I think playing in the space around it is interesting. Symbolically it's powerful.
More precisely, I think the ways it's reductive is potent. Everyone likes to see the weird shit celebrities get up to. Everyone likes to see celebrities cancelled. Someone who can only see their own light is kind of pathetic. Weak and futile and impotent. Never truly fulfilled and always hungry but unable to identify what it desires. A corruption arc emerges.
This is, to me, the most appealing part of the fantasy. Taking your goddess and ruining it. Breaking it and making it mine. Possessor become possession. Disproving the myth. I think about it a normal amount.
