Interesting trivia via Wikipedia: The term 'Gothic' (literally meaning 'in the manner of the Goths') was first used in the 16th century by Giorgio Vasari. However, the Goths, an ancient Germanic people, had no influence on the Gothic style. The Gothic style actually evolved from Romanesque architecture in France. The preceding European architecture styles are pre-romanesque and Romanesque. Romanesque refers to utilizing building techniques that Romans had access to which I imagine are concrete, bricks, domes and pillars.

like idc about speculums or scalpels or unnecessarily invasive physical exams. i DO care about someone with a calm, professional, and vaguely sadistic demeanor spending half an hour prying my mouth open and getting all up in there. that thing dentists do where they ask you questions while they have their fingers in your mouth and you're forced to answer with muffled, barely-comprehensible noises is sooooo fucking hot

OP i recently got some very thorough dental work done that i dont need to get into the reason for but the point is that throughout the process we had to check which of my teeth were hitting each other first which i think may appeal

the way this was done was my dentist took firm hold of my lower jaw and told me to let him take over. i had to completely relax my jaw, keep my tongue out of the way, and let him gently but forcefully open and close my mouth, clicking my teeth together. at the same time as relaxing my jaw i had to pay studious attention to my mouth so that i could report back to him (in gestures only) which side of my teeth made contact first

at one point he commented that usually people struggle a lot more when it comes to just relaxing their jaw and letting him take control
