I don’t really have the set up to do videos, but I did manage to capture a little bit of my coloring process for this fjord unicorn. In the video you can see me using Henna to lay out some of the slightly darker sections of the coat - you can also see where I had already laid in what would be the darkest sections in Indigo Blue.
After the Henna I layered over Yellow Ochre in both the darkened areas and the untouched areas in order to establish the base color. By this point I had already I tested out the colors in my sketchbook, so I knew they would blend to get the colors/values I wanted - and, of course, I had several reference pictures helping me to know where to lay in those dark areas.
Once I’ve got the light/dark areas established and basic color areas blocked out lightly, I can just keep layering more and more to get it to the final color/value intensity. It's a lot of tinkering and intuiting to get it to the final look!
