They were going to sleep in an abandoned building overnight. That was a great idea. Of course if you have a blood pact with your friends and brother it doesn’t help.
“Ow.” Virgil put the tip of his finger in his mouth.
Remus rolled his eyes, “Stop being a baby.” He said handing the needle over to Roman to clean. Roman wiped it off before pricking his own finger and dropping some of the blood into the bowl with Remus’ and Virgil’s drops of blood. He cleaned it again and held it out to Patton who nervously took it. He hovered it over his finger for a while before shoving it in Remus’ hands.
“I can’t do it! You can!” Remus rolled his eyes again and swiftly took both the needle and Patton’s finger. He quickly pricked the finger and dropped the blood into the bowl. Patton returned his hand sheepishly.
“Oh..that wasn’t that bad.” He admitted cleaning his finger off and Roman took the needle, cleaned it and put it away. Remus swirled the bowl.
“There, Blood pact down. Next activity?”
Patton looked up at the abandoned building and shook slightly. Spend the night in a supposedly haunted abandoned building. A hospitel to be exact. He didn’t want to but the blood pact from earlier was, apparently ‘for life’ and ‘one for all’ so he was stuck with a sleeping bag over his shoulder and weak flashlight and his four other friends, Logan, Remus, Roman and Virgil. Janus was out sick for the night, which was a real bummer seeing as having his boyfriend there would have soothed his nerves quite a bit.
Remus clapped his hands making both Virgil and Patton jump. “Let’s go inside so I can fuck a ghost.” Roman punched his brother’s arm.
“Don’t be crude and Let’s get this over with.” Roman said, stepping forward and taking the lead through the old creaking front doors. Logan was next, easily and swiftly overtaking Roman for the lead and shining his flashlight down the corridor. Roman sped up until he was beside him so they both were in the lead.
Patton and Virgil to the back, Patton clinging to Virgil’s side. Remus was in the middle peeking into the empty rooms filled with dusty old medical stuff. They had to go to the top floor where Logan said there was a large empty waiting room they could use to set up camp.
They had to take the stairs up five floors before they found the sixth and final door jammed. “Guess we go down to the floor below and try to find other stairs?” Roman suggested.
“I’ll pull up the hospital blueprints on my…phone.” Logan said. “Oh..no signal.” He showed Remus the empty bars as the young collage student made grabby hands for it.
“What? I didn’t want to see that.” He pointed to the corner. “69 percent.” He grinned causing everyone else to groan and mutter as they made their way back down the stairs. “Just lightening the mood.” He claimed.
Just before they opened the door it opened. Patton jumped as Virgil snorted. “It’s fine.” He shone his flashlight into the dark and it went out. Everyone froze before Roman turned his flashlight into the same spot to show nothing.
Remus giggled and bolted off into the dark. “Remus!” Logan yelled. They heard Remus Cackling from the dark, it echoing back towards them.
“Come on.” Roman said, rolling his eyes to pretend the chill going up his spine was just his brother’s atics. He took off into the dark next followed by the other three.
They got to their chosen camp spot first and waited for Remus to show up. As time ticked on the more unnerved they all got. “I should go look for him.” Logan said standing up.
“I’ll go. I want to give him an earful for running off.” Roman lied. In truth he wanted to know his brother was ok.
“Is it safe to split up more?” Patton whispered.
“It’s an empty building, we’ve all…most of us have flashlights.”Roman corrected, “You just stay safe..I mean here with Virgil.” Patton nodded relieved.
“Don’t die.” Virgil called into the dark after them. “Don’t want to run into a ghosty ghoul.”
Roman really really hoped he was joking around.
Remus was disappointed, no ghosts, ghouls, and no interesting medical horrors left behind for him to poke at. He was about to give up before he heard someone coming to look for him so he ducked into an empty room ready to jump out at them.
Roman and Logan walked down the hallway calling for Remus. “Come on, this isn’t funny.” Roman said, his tone weavering.
Remus gave up on his prank and stepped out, scaring them anyway. Roman punched his shoulder before hugging him. “Don’t do that!”
“Sorry. I didn’t find anything interesting anyways.” Remus focused on the way Roman grabbed his hand to lead him back. Logan was the first back into the room.
“Thank god you guys are ok!” Patton said in relief.
“It’s just an old building.” Virgil, Logan, and Remus all said at the same time.
Remus had forgotten his sleeping bag so they unzipped Roman’s bag and they laid as far apart on the small surface as possible, slowly easing closer to each other as they all talked in the darkness to stave off the fear. Wind howled outside and something thumped in the darkness, Roman’s hand finding his way into Remus’.
“Should we go check that out?” Virgil asked, sitting up.
Remus pulled Roman to his feet, “We will!” Roman sputtered in surprise as he was pulled off into the dark.
“Remus, wait!” Logan yelled.
“You don’t have a flashlight!” Virgil yelled after them.
Remus laughed and Roman found himself laughing too as the fear made it more exciting.
They found their way to the roof and looked up at the half moon and stars. “Wow.” Roman said breathless from running.
“I know right.” Remus said beaming. He still hadn’t let go of Roman’s hand. He gave it a squeeze. Roman looked at him and smiled just as brightly as when he was looking at the stars. Like he was looking at something amazing.
“Hey…sorry for scaring you earlier.” Remus said scooting closer.
Roman shrugged, “I expect it from you at this point.” He looked down at their joined hands. “You make life exciting like that.”
“Sap.” Remus said lightly looking at Roman. “And here I thought you hated me.”
Roman frowned at that, “I could never hate you.”
Remus acted impulsively when he kissed him.
They made their way back inside, the dark didn’t seem as bad when Remus was holding his hand. They brushed off the questions about where they were. Remus lying and saying they saw a ghost.
“Oh yeah. It was terrifying.” Roman agreed when they asked if it was real.
The twins laughed, Logan rolled his eyes and Virgil tried to punch Remus’ arm and ended up hitting Roman.
It was early morning before they fell asleep, Roman laying on Remus’ chest. Drooling slightly as he slept. Remus and Virgil woke up first.
“So….mission success?” Virgil whispered. Remus shot him a thumbs up.
Maybe dragging Roman to a ‘haunted’ building just to get them alone under the stars was a bit of a weird idea, but it worked so Remus counted it as one of his better ones.
