(She spotted it a couple hours in.)

(An apartment building, with more or less ten-ish floors. Not crazy high, but decently tall. More importantly, there was an entrance to the roof.)

(She could go up and scout out where to go next. After all, she still wasn’t quite sure where she wanted to go, and figuring that out would probably be a better idea than just… wandering aimlessly.)

(Then again, wandering has worked out for her so far, so who knows? Either way, once she was inside, she started climbing the stairs.)

(She wondered who lived here.)

(There was thumping from the ceiling Ren's apartment )

(That's odd... she lived on the top floor, so either someone or something was up there.)

(Ren hasn't been paying much attention to the "bug crisis" or "infestation" or "infection" or whatever anyone called it.)

(But the thump. Ren jumped out of her seat when she heard it. She'd been playing a new game that came out recently, a loose sequel to a popular metroidvania. The sequel was so popular that it took down the stores for Bintendo, Ploystation, and Cream.)

(Ren went to look out her door to see who or what it was...)

(What the… she could’ve sworn she heard something just now.)

(She just made it to the roof, but if something had followed her, she’d have to find a way down— fast.)

(Obviously, the fastest way would be jumping down 90 feet or so to the ground, but… yeah, no, she was NOT doing that. Not unless she absolutely had to.)

(…without much of a choice, she began to descend down the stairs, hoping that noise wasn’t coming from anything malicious.)

“…hello? Is anyone—“

(She gasped. Her eyes widened.)

“Wait— REN?!”

(She almost laughed with relief.)

"OH MY GOD, JUN!?!?!"

"What the hell were you doing on the roof??? How the hell did you get there???"

“Oh my god, Ren, I’m so glad to see you didn’t you lived here—!”

(Finally, somebody she actually knew.)

(Seeing Ren was like a much-needed breath of fresh air. She stepped a little closer, narrowing the mildly awkward gap between them.)

(Now that she could finally relax a bit, she realized how much she needed a break.)

“Right, um— I was trying to scout out where to go next, since I’m… not… really able to stay at home anymore. Because of all the…”

(She made a vague gesture with her hands, hoping Ren knew what she was talking about.)

“…yeah. So I’ve kinda just been wandering around and, uh… trying to avoid them, and maybe hoping to run into my friends, I guess…”

"What the fuck is going on out there??? I thought it was just like. A big swarm of bugs?? Did they like. Eat your house or something????"

Ren seems genuinely confused. She does not pay attention to the news. Too much stress from it.
