Beginning
"Phew… Finally!"
While reaching Toshi hadn’t been difficult —long distances weren’t a bother to him—, he spent the whole ride jumping up and down his seat in pure excitement. Rumors about the city had piqued his interest, and there was no way he’d let such a good opportunity pass by.
He quickly localized the apartment buildings, but didn’t want to go in just yet. Instead, he turned around and began taking a walk around the area. It’d be a waste to spend the rest of the day locked up in a room!
However, after walking for around fifteen minutes, he stopped in his tracks. Scanning the street, the sudden realization hit him— he was lost! He had been so astonished by all the tall buildings that he didn’t pay attention to where he was going.
"I can’t believe this is happening on my first day… I have to get back as soon as possible…!"
Since there wasn’t much he could do alone, he decided to approach the nearest person.
"Excuse me! Could you tell me where the apartments are?"
Bless these winter days in which the air doesn't feel obscenely cold and he can go out without feeling like death right after stepping outside his apartment. Bless these winter days in which he can go out armed against the wind with a jacket, a thin scarf and a soccer ball under his arm.
Being busy with the sudden influx of teammates and old friends lately in the city -among other things that made him smile just by thinking about them-, the ashen-bluet hardly had a chance to practice, even if it was on his own. Touching the ball felt almost foreign, and that was certainly something he would not let happen ever again.
Once he found a somewhat calm spot, free from pedestrians and whatnot, he was about to drop the ball to his feet when a voice apparently adressing him made him turn around... and look down. Red hues stared the kid down for a brief moment before the teen spoke up.
"Sure. Depends on which ones you're looking for, though." He couldn't blame the kid for not specifying first; Hakuryuu himself had some trouble at first finding his own building.
It’s no trouble. [doesn’t seem to mind you accepting his offer— if he’d minded, he wouldn’t have offered. disappearing into his room momentarily, reemerging with a battered box of tea in one hand that looks handmade. the scent wafting from it is surprisingly delicate. some sort of flower tea, possibly, that he brought with him from Seidouzan. crossing to the kitchen as he speaks, setting the water to boil, absently]
I’ve fully unpacked, but I’ve got some laundry to do… I wasn’t sure where. Is there a place to do it here?
Red hues followed the brunet's movements as if Hakuryuu didn't have anything better to do-- which was actually true. With his gaze fixed on the tea box for a brief moment, he soon returned his attention to Makoto the moment he started speaking again.
"We've got a washing machine in the small room next to the bathroom." He paused for a second, his eyes widening, if only slightly. "It's not in the best conditions, so there's a laundromat just across the street if you ever need it."
[smirk widening, just a little, when you roll your eyes at the envelope. your team enjoys exasperating you, just a little bit, hakuryuu.] Haa, you’re very welcome. [picking up his bag with a bit of a huff, shouldering it again and making his way into the apartment after you as he listens, expression slightly abstracted as he takes it in— being sure to step lightly, in case your roommates are home] He’ll be glad to hear that. Well, they all will, really. Ain’t been the same.
[choosing not to mention “stuff,” for now, apparently, letting you stew for a little] ‘S been alright. Real quiet, now you’re gone and everything’s closed too. No bad thing, though. [a quick careless shrug and hair flip, but his eyes are darting about, casing the room— hope you don’t have any naughty mags lying about, Hakuryuu, or he’ll notice them. won’t say a word, but will notice.] No more Kibayama to kick up a whole set a’ fuss. Shuu’s fine.
[letting the bag down by his sturdy boots in lieu of on your bed or on a surface, exhaling a little.] Two things. [his tone’s changed a little, more intent, like he wants you to listen.] There was an apartment mixup, so they put me in here with you for the time being. [his gaze is slightly apologetic, but that’s more him than you, really— Hoda likes his space, so he’s probably apologizing more like he feels his level of irritation would be in this same situation, than yours.]
Secondly— [eyes sharpening a little, losing that apologetic look—] Heard you were dating Raii~mon. [he doesn’t sound angry, or anything like that— more like he wants to confirm. he probably means Tsurugi— you’d know his style of referring to a player by their team name alone— but Hoda’s very liberal, so there’s a chance he might be thinking you’re dating the entire Raimon team. that’s probably why he’s looking at you kind of warily. better clear that up, Hakuryuu.]
His words made his features soften visibly. He had been treated nicely here so far, but no one could really replace his old team, so the feeling was prettu much mutual. "It hasn't been the same without you guys," he could admit that much out loud. Still, he believed that adapting to new environments and moving on was part of becoming stronger, too. Surely his fellow SEEDs knew that.
Don't worry, Hoda. This room is a dirty mag free zone. "I'm glad then." He snickered immediately at the mention of Kibayama, yet it took him just a second to put on his serious face at Shuu's name. He had been keeping in touch with his teammates one way or another, but Shuu was a whole another story. Hoda interrupted his trail of thought, and honestly, he was kind of thankful for that.
"It's no problem." Or so he thought. If he recalled correctly, there was still a free room in the apartment, though it might be a bit smaller than the others. "Make yourself comfortable while you're here. Just tell me if you need anything."
At the second statement... he unconsciously bit his lower lip. It wasn't that big of a deal-- well, it was, for him at least, but nothing to make a fuss about, that's for sure. Truth is, none of their friends had made a comment about their relationship and neither him nor Tsurugi had told them about it either; this was actually the first time he was talking about it face to face with someone. He had expected himself to be open and excited about it, but really, he was feeling more flustered than anything.
The teen cleared his throat in an attempt to put his thoughts in order. "If you mean Tsurugi," the teen paused, acknowledging Hoda's look and its meaning, "then yes, we've been together for a while."
"...and who exactly did you hear that from?" Curiosity killed the cat, but it was worth a shot.
Hopefully it’d get warmer soon— the door opening makes him look up and blink once, Hakuryuu’s bright expression catching his attention before the words registered. Ah, well. “I didn’t have much to pack and it’s cold out so I hurried,” Tsurugi mumbles in response, moving inside when the other steps back, shoes sliding off at the door politely before he pulls the scarf from around his neck.
Much warmer inside, thankfully. His bag is shrugged from his shoulder a bit so he can tug his coat off as well, blowing some air upwards to get his hair from his face. He could only hope he hadn’t actually forgotten anything either, he didn’t think he did but you never know.
"How was your day?" They hadn’t really talked much after all, the least he could do was ask.
He hurried to the door and closed it behind him as soon as the other stepped in, a short shiver going down his spine at the sudden yet cold air coming from the outside.
"It was alright." Better than alright actually; knowing Tsurugi was going to stay with him for a few days had improved his mood greatly. "Busy, making room for you."
Hakuryuu stopped right by his side and took the taller teen's bag off his shoulder, setting it on the floor before tugging at Tsurugi's sleeve to make him lean down just a bit, and pressed a short kiss on his cheek. "How was yours?"
Tsurugi rolled his shoulder some when Hakuryuu’s hands pulled away, glancing down at his arm, nose wrinkling vaguely. At least it wasn’t as bad as it could be; that was the only thought that constantly kept crossing his mind. It could always be worse.
Hakuryuu’s reply made him look up again, eyebrows furrowing for a moment. True, of course, but still— he didn’t comment on it again though, choosing to shift in his seat and lean back against the couch just a little more. Hopefully it wouldn’t make it harder for the shorter teen to tend to his arm. He made sure to hold it out a little further just in case though.
The brushing of a new cloth stung just a bit again and he ignored it in favor of Hakuryuu’s comment, almost groaning out loud. He managed not to, but a sigh did escape and his eyes rolled. It was hard to hold back a snort, too. “It was an accident, believe me. I was trying to get home when I’d heard about it,” the dark haired teen huffs, lips pursing somewhat.
"A bad case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, honestly," just his luck, really. Look at his track record of incidents. Unbelievable.
How could he stay so calm after going through such an incident, Hakuryuu didn't know, but Hearing Tsurugi being casual about it made him feel somewhat relieved. He was right, after all. It could have been way worse.
He sighed, but a half smile was tugging at his lips already. "Alright, alright." Just his luck indeed. "How many black cats have you come across in your life, Tsurugi? Have you broken any mirrors recently?" A bit more teasing for the sake of distracting him -or rather, both of them- couldn't be that bad.
Once he'd cleaned the scrape throroughly, he threw the soaked gauze on top of the stained ones. Now he just needed-- "There." His free hand grabbed a bandage roll and held it gently against the taller teen's wound, slowly and carefully wrapping the cloth around his arm. A couple minutes later, the other's scrape was covered and the bandage secured with a bit of tape.
"Well, that's it." Another sigh escaped his lips. It had been simple, but he was quite satisfied with his job. Now he just had to make sure Tsurugi took care of it daily... or take care of it himself.
Happy Valentines Day!
Hinata found himself in front of Hakuryuu's apartment, gazing at the door a bit nervously. It's been forever since he's spoken to the other. In between homework, practice, nearly all his friends and fellow volleyball players arriving, and his rather embarrassing job--Hinata couldn't find time to spare for his first ever friend in this town. While he thought often about him, he wanted to make sure that at least he could do this much for him.
He hangs the little bag over the door, knocking, and then running off before the other could notice him. Inside was a little note along with a box of meat buns for Hakuryuu to share with his roommates--or, well, his loved one.
The note reads,
Hakuryuu-kun,
I'm sorry I've been so busy! I hope you are doing well. I can't seem to find myself focused on soccer when all my friends are here. It's really exciting, it makes me really happy to have people to challenge me. I know that you feel the same about your teammates. Ah, Happy Valentines Day! This was kind of embarrassing to write.
Shouyou
----
The knock on his door had him looking up from his homework for a brief moment before actually getting up to make his way through the hallway, twist the handle of the door to open it and find... no one was there. It wasn't the first time this happened to him, so Hakuryuu raised an eyebrow and stepping outside to make sure whoever had knocked wasn't still there.
Letting out a soft sigh and just as he was about to brush this all off, he noticed something hanging over the door. It took him a second to stand on his tip toes to reach out and grab the small bag, immediately taking a peek inside. The smell of the meat buns caught his attention, but he felt more curious than hungry at the moment, so reading the little note was first on his list of priorities.
Ah, that idiot... He'd managed to put a smile on his lips with just a few words, and somehow, Hakuryuu had a feeling it would be him. He sure did miss him a lot, didn't he?
closes eyes i'll get to the rest of my replies tomorrow i swear im just too tired to even type coherently anymore today
just married (except not really)
Tsurugi wasn’t really into any holiday, if he had to be honest. Christmas was as close as you’d get to him being excited about a holiday. Valentine’s Day wasn’t anywhere to be seen on the list. Passing around valentines in class when he was much younger was a really distant memory and up until this year it hadn’t mattered to him.
And it still wouldn’t have, had Hakuryuu not asked to meet up that day. If the shorter male wanted to celebrate— Tsurugi wouldn’t say no. And at least getting a small present along the way would be easy. A small teddy bear wasn’t weird right? Hopefully.
He wasn’t surprised to see the other there first, either. Tsurugi was quiet in his approach as always, the mumbling getting louder as he got closer—
Was he practicing?
Lips twitched at the corners into an amused smirk, head tilting as he came to a stop behind the shorter male. “Happy Valentine’s Day to you too,” Tsurugi answered in return, head tilting to the side as he waited.
He was so engrossed in his task that hearing the taller teen's voice actually made him tense up and turn around quickly with a slightly shocked look in his eyes. Did he really hear him practicing?
Alright, that was the tiniest bit embarrassing, he could admit that much, but the light blush that began to spread across his cheeks wasn't the result of that.
Hakuryuu spent a few seconds in silence, lips parted as he tried to collect himself as quickly as possible. "...Happy Valentine's Day, Tsurugi." In the end it just sounded firm and a bit too serious, practically the same as when he used to hand him over those silly challenge letters of his. Oh well, he'll do better next year.
He took a few steps to somewhat close the space between them and thrusted the small bouquet towards Tsurugi, giving him a gentler look as soon as he brushed off this petty incident.

((HODA IS KILLING HIMSELF LAUGHING GOODBYE))

Getting the rings at the fair about a month ago had been quite an impulsive move on his part, but still, something told Hakuryuu he'd find a good use for them soon, somehow.
And he did.
Valentine's day was rather unfamiliar to him considering he never had someone to spend it with, yet today he did truly feel like doing something special, something that would surprise Tsurugi.
The teen thought one of the small gardens scattered around the city would be a nice place to stand around for a while with the other, and honestly, after taking a quick look at it, it was the perfect setting for a moment like this. It had been a good idea to convince him to meet up there after all.
One of his hands was held to his mouth while the other grasped a small bouquet firmly. "Happy Valentine's Day, Tsurugi." A pause. "Too serious... Happy Valentine's Day, Tsurugi!" He frowned. No, he didn't want to sound too eager either. Without being particularly aware of his surroundings, he kept muttering to himself, hoping to find the exact way he wanted his greeting to sound like.
[startling a little. probably wasn’t told who his other roommate was going to be.] Hakuryuu…! [as if it could be anyone else. that slightly scary smile is unmistakeable. doesn’t look very frightened now, though— just looks a little relieved, amused and glad to see you] I— not so long. [shaking his head a little.] When Amemiya-san was in hospital. [politely] Welcome home.
[it sounds a little foreign when he says it, probably because he’s not very used to saying it. he hasn’t lived at home for ages, after all.] Are you cold? Would you like some tea? [mentally shaking his head at himself. he sounds like a wife. then again, that thought is pretty funny, giving his smile that amused edge you’d remember from Resistance Japan. Kurosaki is weird.]
Oh, that definitely wasn't long ago. Taiyou's stay in the hospital had left him with little things to do at home, and thus, despite the cold, he hadn't spent much time in the apartment lately.
"I'm fine-- Some tea would be nice, though." He regretted accepting the offer almost immediately. Shouldn't he be the one offering the brunet tea? Well, it was too late for that now. Surely Makoto wouldn't mind not getting an extra delicate treatment from him, even if he's the one freshly arrived in the city; they were familiar enough at this point, right? "Have you unpacked your things yet or do you need some help?"
[he was stretching his arm a little to give it a rest from the duffel, forearm hooked around his elbow, so he misses that initial look of harassed curiousity. noting that steadily brightening expression turning into a big smile, though— barely able to repress his own smile. Aww, first-year captain is a big cutie. That right there is why he can never stay vexed with you. (So much respect you’re getting from this team of yours, Hakuryuu. But then, they obey you when it matters, and that’s what counts, surely.)]
Haa, that’s me~ [tossing his hair, ever-present smirk in place.] ‘S good to see you too. Came for the soccer. [he knows you’ll know he means the soccer programme that the school offers, or possibly also JP’s soccer department. it’s hard to know what Hoda knows unless you ask him directly. not clarifying further.] Got a lot of stuff for you, though.
[unceremoniously dumping all that food into your arms. don’t stagger too much, Hakuryuu, it’s a lot.] Some messages too. The guys say hi. Well, Seidou says skype him more often or else, but he meant hi. You catch my meaning. [thunking a thick envelope down atop all that food, addressed to “Hakuryuu Butth*** Captain.”] There’s that for you, too.
[sharp dark eyes searching your face. Hoda’s always been clear-sighted, able to see right into the heart of things.] Heard some stuff about you, too. [his voice is guarded, though, so there’s no way to tell how he feels about whatever it is that he’s heard.] But that can wait.
[exhaling a little, and giving a crooked little smile, eyes affectionate. he looks a little tired, too— he’s been traveling all day.] Gonna invite me in, or what?
His smile didn't falter one bit. Of course Hoda would be here for soccer. Hakuryuu himself had moved in here for the same reason, really; it wasn't all that strange to him.
His legs wavered the slightest the moment the food was practically dumped on him, somehow managing to fit it all in his arms and making sure nothing fell to the floor. He fought the urge to frown at the writing on the envelope; it was just too soon to be getting annoyed over such a petty thing. Instead, he simply rolled his eyes and let out a short sigh as he responded with a breathed 'thanks'. His former teammates hadn't changed in the slightest, it seemed. "I've been kind of busy lately, but l'll make sure to call Seidou more often." It was true that he'd been neglecting his old friends a bit... he had to take care of that.
An eyebrow raised at Hoda's next words. "Stuff?" The teen sounded somewhat wary. That sentence wasn't usually a sign of good news, but if the blond said it could wait then it couldn't be something of great importance, or so he wanted to believe.
"Sure, come in. Make yourself at home." Hakuryuu pivoted on his heels to make way for the other to step in, carefully approaching his desk to start setting all the food and the envelope down on it. "So, how's life been treating you?"
Chocolates, tarts, and roses, oh my! // Closed with Hakuryuu
There was no way he was leaving his best friend/fake mother(?) out of the Valentine’s cheer! Of course, he knew Tsurugi was more than likely to get Hakuryuu things since they were together and all, but the fact still remained he wanted to treat his best friend to stuff on Valentine’s, also since the other male helped him a lot when it came to hospital visits and such.
Having already bought a few cakes and tarts from the bakery and a small box of chocolates, he headed to the florist and got a small bouquet of yellow roses, since they symbolize friendship, and had them wrapped up before heading home. Setting the treats on the counter, he looked at the clock before he heard the door open and he grinned. “Happy Valentine’s, Hakuryuu!” He yelled as the other teen walked through the door, thrusting the small bouquet towards him.
The teen wondered how even in a holiday with such a reduced range of appropriate gifts, he was still so bad at chooshing them. He didn't have a problem when deciding what to get for Tsurugi, yet nothing really caught his attention when it came to something his friends might actually like. Nonetheless, he finally settled for something easy and that would hopefully please all of them.
Somewhat tired, he finally got back to his apartment, sighing loudly as soon as he stepped in.
His eyes widened, a small gasp leaving his lips as the bouquet was practically shoved in his face. It took him a second to recognize the orangette's voice, but as soon as he did, a smile curled up the corners of his mouth.
"You didn't have to." But then again, who was he to talk? Hakuryuu reached to grab the bouquet, holding it close to his chest as he took a step forward to hand the orangette a small box filled with red velvet cupcakes. "Happy Valentine's to you too."
[he’s got a little bit of free time, so he’s using it appropriately— that is to say, sitting at his desk in his room in the apartment, IMing his older sister. freezing when he hears a noise from outside his bedroom, in the main room. quickly amending his typing.]
Makoto: yeah so his hair is great it’s a very fashionable style
Makoto: Mie-nee I think one of my roommates just came home
[he doesn’t have to wait very long at all for a reply.]
Mie: well go say hello, Makoto
Mie: don’t be a little penis
Makoto: Mie-nee what
[shutting his laptop before she can reply, though. now is again, not the time. he can deal with his sister’s weird references later. rising slowly, padding quietly over to his bedroom door in socked feet, touching his hair absently to make sure it’s neat and he hasn’t stashed any pens in it. opening his door, quietly.] Ah— hello…?
It had been rather silly on his part to go out knowing how much the cold displeased him, but for once, he felt like taking a walk, even if it was with his face almost completely hidden under a scarf.
Big mistake. Unexpectedly, he regretted the decision about five minutes in, but he was determined to wander around for a while more; he wasn't about to let the winter prevent him from going out. Besides, he hadn't gotten dressed up for nothing.
Hakuryuu let out a long sigh the moment he found himself stepping inside the apartment once again, though, relieved to feel the warm air inside brushing against his uncomfortable cold skin. He made his way through the hallway, ready to go into his room when he heard a soft noise and a rather familiar voice addressing him.
He tilted his head to the side. "Kurosaki?" Of course it was him, but the question left his lips as an instinctive reflex. A 'what are you doing here' was at the tip of his tongue, yet he refrained from asking about something so obvious; he knew they'd be getting a new roommate soon either way. "When did you get here?" Much better.
[stomping up without fanfare to Hakuryuu’s door. hey, if you had 10kg weights in your boots, you’d probably make the floor shake, too. giving it a very gentle kick to make it thud, seeing as how his boots are so heavy and his hands are both occupied with what looks to be his duffel bag in one hand and a veritable shit-ton of food in the other. looks like he cooked for you, you lucky thing.]
[exhaling a little, letting the duffel down gently. he’s glad to have finally arrived where it’s a little warmer. hopefully Hakuryuu will be glad to see him. letting his voice raise just a little.] Oiii~ Anyone home? Haku~ryuu, you there?
There was this faint noise that had been keeping him from concentrating on homework for a good minute, also making him frown lightly without him even noticing it. He was pretty sure he was alone in the apartment this time, so what on earth--
The voice calling him makes him tense up the slightest, red hues darting off to give the door a quite surprised look. An eyebrow raised, curiosity showing in his features as he got up from his desk and walked over to the source of the noise. Now that couldn't have just been his imagination.
Twisting the handle, the teen opened the door. Surely his expression was a truly dumbfounded one before it turned into a happier one, a smile worming onto his lips.
"Hoda!" What's with all his former teammates showing up in this city all of a sudden, and more importantly, without even telling him? Hakuryuu wasn't just about to scold him, though. Greetings first. "It's good to see you. What are you doing here?"
