I fully fuck with Caine being agender because Grant and the rest of the developers probably didn't know what being nonbinary was back in the 90s, and "he" was usually the default for things when "they" wasn't an option.
We know about the mind files, but Caine knew enough to make Jax's room trans colors but not enough to know what that meant. And Jax's relationship with masculinity is a HUGE part of her personality, or at least would have been at the top of her mind when her brain got scanned via the backstory we got.
I think Caine just takes in pronouns that the humans use without examining what they mean for each person. Like I don't think he ever stopped to think why Zooble is "they" and doesn't even realize they're nonbinary, and they probably tried to explain it to him and why the body part thing fucks them up so much in one of their "therapy" sessions, but of course it didn't click.
But now that he's being encouraged to listen and learn, he may be like "wait... what gender am I?" And ultimately the answer is no real gender, because Caine wasn't created to be a "man", just an entertainer.

But like I am so genuinely happy these fandoms exist. Nipping this in the ass now- all fandoms suck. The bigger the fandom, the more people that suck. These properties being very popular, very queer, and made by queer women is a recipe for disaster and I will always respect Vizi and Goose for putting their art out there knowing how people on the internet just fucking are

But these shows and their audience remind me of when I was OBSESSED with fandom content. Reading fanfiction every night. Having multiple blogs for multiple franchises. Chatting with mutuals. Cons. Rp. OCs! Dissociating to AMVs thinking up my own scenarios because I certainly wasn't talented enough to animate them myself and GOD staying up all night watching the animations of people who were! I still do these things, but I guess I'm just at an age where it isn't all encompassing like it used to be.
But Christ I remember that feeling. I'm so happy fandom culture is still going strong. I'm so happy people are able to see ACTUAL queer people, not just cope or AUs. I'm so happy people have all these new crazy designs to try and cosplay as. I'm so happy people have all these AUs that inspire them to make their own stories! I'm just so fucking happy for yall. And hell for me too. I have Caine brain rot BAD rn...
So yea. All fandoms bad. Have fun. It's ok to be cringe- "I am cringe and I am free" and all that. Y'all are making some incredible art! I'm so proud of you :)
