Many years ago there was a great site called allaboutspike.com, that focused on “fanfiction that explores the ambiguities of Spike's character with an eye toward his redemption“, where the archivist Laura tried “to include only the most thought-provoking, entertaining, and well-written stories (regardless of pairing, rating, or genre).”

I saved a bunch of stories that I loved to my computer back then and I’m glad that I did. One of them was “Emulating Atlas” by Girl With Journal. It explored the alternative universe, where Buffy was never resurrected after Season 5 finale and Spike keeps his promise to protect Dawn.

I recently re-read the story and thought it was very poetic and would make a nice song. So I used Suno.ai to make several versions of it, until I got what I wanted. Since the story was too long to fit into a 4-minute song, I abridged the text a bit and created several parts (over 30 all together), cut and edited them to get one long coherent song for me to listen to. I did the editing in Movie Maker and my first goal was to simply have a complete song that I would enjoy. But them I thought “There must be a picture in the background anyways, why not add some more? And why shouldn’t the pictures match the lyrics?” So, I opened my “Buffy” screencaps archive and started looking.

After many weeks this video was completed. And I thought that maybe some people in “Buffy” fandom might find it interesting, as well. I tried to find Girl With Journal online to ask her permission to use her text, but was unsuccessful. I hope she doesn’t mind if I publish it here.

"Gingerbread" RL parallels

With Linda, we re-watched "Buffy the vampire Slayer" episode 11 Season 3 "Gingerbread" and I got Musk/Trump vibes.

Joyce freaks out after finding two kids who seem to have been killed by witches. So she rallies the adult population of Sunnydale behind a Salem-like witch hunt, leading the murderous mob directly to Willow and Buffy. When I saw how the police disregard the law and search the lockers in school it reminded me of the purge that Elon Musk and Donald Trump are doing to the USAID and other agencies. Trump’s got a knack for rallying people, just like Joyce did with the parents in Sunnydale. And Principal Synder’s behaviour reminded me of Trump's vindictiveness. Fear and authority can lead to some wild and dangerous decisions.
