My take on Wonder Bat on the Absolute Universe
DC's new project, "Absolute" features our favorite heroes with a different take. What if WW was raised in Hell, Batman was poor, Clark grew in Krypton ? This take was something designed by Darkside, and this impacted our lore, I don't know what to tell you guys, by I love the new comics. It is a easy fresh start for anyone starting in DC's universe, super easy, go and grab the first Absolute edition from you favorite heroes. You will definitely enjoy your time, and if this is something that you never read before (Comics) give it a shot ! BUT WONDER BAT ?????
Yep, the post here is about one of my all time favorite ships, Bruce Wayne and Diana.
I started liking DC because of the cartoon, and my favorite character had multiple interactions with this incredible warrior, Diana of Themyscira.
When I was a little bit older and started checking some comics, I was curious to hear if they were dating in the comics... And no, they were not, in fact, they had multiple instances where they almost got together but never actually dated in the canon universe.
My point here is not cover all the ground from previous comics, they had tons of interactions, but I want to highlight something important:
In recent years we had a canon relationship between trinity heroes... And it was not Batman.
New 52 was the approach to start again their universes, make easier to new readers to join, but some things were changed, a lot of continuities lost, relationships altered. It had a major start, but lost in numbers after some years, Rebirth on the other hand had better numbers after the new reset in continuity.
My point is, a lot of people liked this new relationship and a lot disliked, Lois Lane was out of the picture, Superman was... Different in my opinion and I think it was a weird dynamic (I think it could work but is not my ship)
What I wanted to address here is, Batman is different from Superman, people may dislike what I am saying, but he is the goldmine of DC Universe, he makes wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more money than a lot of other heroes (Please keep that in mind because I will return to that later).
ONCE AGAIN ------ Wonder bat ?
Absolute is not a reboot, is just... An alternate universe, and this is important, because this gives them more power and chance to do new things with the characters.
The whole ABSOLUTE is a new take on multiple stories and IT IS WORKING.
It removes the weight of always following the formula (A writer has things that he cannot do with a character) imagine that with Batman ? The responsibility ? His comics is the gold mine and I bet that Snyder and Tom King have some people watching them and their work.
But Batman and Wonder woman have a great dynamic, a human fighting like a demigod with an actual demigod.
And in two comics we had:
First team-up on this new series
Romance implication made in the first comic
Long time spent together (Another dimension)
Bruce protected her / Vice versa
Bruce rode Pegasus
Bruce smiling.
Diana saw snow for the first time with Batman
Diana gave him a talisman of Hecate (For some reason I associated that with Hikiteia - A popular WonderBat comic)
She carried him while flying
First fight WW vs Batman
I am hoping that for the first time, they give this ship a chance, at least TRY.
And imagine, if this works out, the amount of comics that they can do with this is insane.
