The longer one spends trying to wrap one’s self around the identity of a sub-culture, you get to see it transform into something that no longer resembles the world you entered into. 

Sometimes, that can you leave you feeling old and out of place. The last person in the club while the lights have come on and harshly illuminated how time has passed you by. 

It’s been nice to have emo grow up while I have too. Even though the people who make the music are still as young as ever, their ambition, presence and scope continues to evolve admirably, I wish I had these bands when I was 15, but I’m glad I can still enjoy them now.

What makes this kind of music endure through all of its derivations and permutations is that kids seem to be the only people that lack the overthinking and self-consciousness that blocks the succinct summations of our problems like: 

“I love too much/ to hurt this bad/ I have too much/ to be this sad”

The Simpsons have been a TV show for every day of my life. Still the most influential work of art on me as a person. 

The days of the humanness and warmth like in this episode are long gone, but I appreciate it still. 

What a special show.

A lot of young men of a certain age were drawn into the appreciation of Cinema through gangster movies. We were drawn in by the aesthetic and the bravado of aspirational masculinity, but instead found ourselves swept up in a director’s artistic endeavor then our life changes. 

The Irishman feels like full circle for a lot of us. A last hurrah to a heyday of movies that feels further away every day. Life is supposed to do that, but for a second and thanks to 85 million dollars worth of CGI magic, we got to have one last moment with these pillars of  American Movies.
