To say Rebecca Ferguson has had a varied career would be an understatement. After beginning her career in the soap Nya Tider in her native Sweden, she caught

“Fame for me is when a 5-year-old girl on YouTube has learnt my song, and my moves,” Ferguson told POPSUGAR. “It’s me, as a little 5-year-old! I literally get a bit teary-eyed, because they love it so much. It feels so beautiful to be a part of their journey, of finding music they like, and stories, and colourful events, that’s why I do it.”

I want this to be one of those obligatory movies that children go to see, because I think it highlights so many good questions - moral, bullying, alcoholism- and so many things that we today battle, and on a grander scheme when it comes to politics. It’s hard growing up and in a society when class is so prominent it’s quite beautiful to be able to create a film like this and step down and start over a bit.

The Swedish star of Mission: Impossible talks to Alexandra Pollard about her new film The Kid Who Would Be King, a confrontation with a ‘manipulative’ male director, and how – when it comes to #MeToo – ‘there’s no smoke without bloody fire’

That’s why she thinks the #MeToo movement is “so bloody brilliant” – it’s given women the courage to fight those battles. “And yes,” she says, “some people are gonna have to stand in the line of the bullet for change to happen. C’est la vie. It happens. And you’re not there for no reason. There’s no smoke without bloody fire.”

She admires the women who have revealed experiences of assault or harassment recently – even if they did so some years after the incident took place, or after another victim had come forward. “It’s easy to fall into the habit of thinking, ‘Oh, that made that path easier, didn’t it? You followed someone else’,” she says, “when it should be, ‘Bloody well done. I wish you could have done it when it happened, so you wouldn’t have had to have years of s***.
