We are very proud of our sister in Noirwave @linairisviktor. When one succeeds, we all succeed. Onwards and upwards✔️ ___________________________________________ Rp @lvxix 'The woven arc' explores the visual dialogue between an unusual selection of artworks not usually posed in conversation with each other: figurative and abstract sculptures, paintings, prints and textiles, along with mixed media and performance. The exhibition features artworks by El Anatsui, Nick Cave, Glen Ligon, Grace Ndirtu, Tim Rollins and K.O.S., Peter Sacks, Yinka Shonibare and @linairisviktor The works are activated by an array of legacy textiles and hats, selected by David Adjaye - instillation in collaboration with Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. The past 3 months of my Masters program has been spent at the Tate (Britain and Modern) learning about their organizational structure with particular focus on their diversity action plan which launched in 2015. It has been interesting to see how the Tate seeks to celebrate difference and critique how they are achieving and failing at this task. Diversity and creativity go hand in hand. Museum and gallery spaces are often seen as intimidating, elite, exclusionary spaces to many people. The lack of specialized knowledge and cultivated aesthetic taste serve as preventive barriers to many ethnic "majorities" (perceived minorities). Museum and gallery spaces are for everyone regardless of your background and income. Art serves as the common dominator across all races. Like music it is a universal language. It is our aim through Noirwave to encourage POC to begin to feel comfortable to enter these spaces, to enjoy and learn from them. The stereotype "black people don't go to museums or galleries" hinders so many people from receiving exponential growth that comes from entering these spaces. Museums and galleries are important educational spaces that must be taken advantage of regardless of the stigma's that surround them. #Noirwave (at London, United Kingdom)
Love is served. Love remains. Reunited.
Congratulations to @Linairisviktor for the cover of CCQ. Issue 9 | Gone to Ghana. In her extensive honest six page interview with @egilhooligan Lina touches on #Noirwave " Yannick (@petitenoirkvlt) Rharha and myself share very similar philosophies: we want to re organize the narrow perspective that much of the global community have of what it means to be African. There's a whole spectrum of lifestyles on the continent, but there's this very superficial yet pervasive, pumped out narrative of Africa, which exists on a global scale: poverty stricken ; AIDS ridden; A charity case. We're not reshaping the conversation purely from our own narrative, but from the past, triggering these powerful stories that are dormant". Onwards and Upwards @linairisviktor 🙏🏿 #Noirwave

After my @wonderlandmag shoot last week. Wearing my new crown... A Bedoo headpiece. The work of South African designer Qba Nkosi. Her work is inspired by the bead works of the indigenous people of her land South Africa, the Zulu, the Xhosa and Ndebele peoples of the small town where she was raised as well as the potent images of the Ancient Egyptian Royals. It is Nondumiso's dream that one day every black girl who cares to adorn her hair as Africans have done for centuries find BEDOO as a suitable alternative. ✨
