Hunter's Journal: Understanding PvE Through Love and Deepspace
One topic I often see in the community is the debate between combat players, card collectors, and story enjoyers. Some people believe one playstyle is more "valid" than another.
But to understand why all of these approaches exist, we first need to understand the type of game we're playing.
What Does PvE Mean?
PvE stands for Player versus Environment. Instead of competing against real players, you challenge enemies and mechanics designed by the game itself.
Your success isn't determined by defeating another person—it's determined by how well you understand the game's systems.
This can include:
Building stronger teams
Learning enemy attack patterns
Managing resources wisely
Optimizing your equipment and upgrades
Improving your own gameplay over time
The challenge comes from the environment, not from another player.
Love and Deepspace Is a PvE Experience
Although many people discover Love and Deepspace because of its romance elements, its core gameplay revolves around PvE combat.
As Hunters, we battle Wanderers, clear story stages, complete Orbit Trials, participate in Hunter Contest, and challenge increasingly difficult content.
Every victory comes from preparation and strategy.
Choosing the right Memories, leveling companions, upgrading Protocores, and understanding combat mechanics all contribute to progression.
You're not trying to outperform another Hunter—you're trying to overcome the game's own challenges.
Why Different Playstyles Exist
Because Love and Deepspace is PvE, players naturally create their own goals.
Some enjoy pushing difficult combat stages and optimizing every stat.
Others spend hours reading event stories, anecdotes, and world-building because they value the emotional journey.
Some love collecting limited Memories, outfits, and cosmetics as a way to celebrate their favorite characters.
And many players do a little bit of everything.
Unlike competitive PvP games, where rankings often define success, PvE allows players to decide what success means for themselves.
Combat Players and Card Collectors Need Each Other
Sometimes discussions become divided between "battle girlies" and "card collectors," but the reality is much simpler.
Combat players often discover the most effective team compositions, share guides, and explain game mechanics that help the wider community.
Card collectors and story enthusiasts preserve event stories, celebrate character development, create fan content, and keep the emotional side of the game alive.
Both groups contribute to the health of the community in different ways.
Neither exists above the other.
Skill Still Matters in PvE
A common misconception is that PvE games require less skill because there is no direct competition.
In reality, high-level PvE content demands planning, timing, and strategy.
Strong combat players don't just have powerful Memories—they understand rotations, positioning, elemental advantages, and resource management.
Likewise, dedicated collectors carefully manage their Diamonds and resources months in advance to obtain the Memories they truly value.
Different goals require different strategies.
A Game Designed for Different Journeys
Perhaps that's what makes Love and Deepspace special.
Some players log in to challenge the hardest battles.
Some come for the romance and storytelling.
Some collect every Memory of their favorite love interest.
Some simply enjoy spending time in the world Infold has created.
None of these experiences are wrong.
At its heart, Love and Deepspace is a PvE game that encourages personal progression rather than direct competition. The enemies may be Wanderers, but every player follows a different path to overcome them.
And that's the beauty of PvE: the only journey you truly need to compare yourself to is your own.
Author's Note
As someone who enjoys Love and Deepspace, I like reflecting on its gameplay design and community culture. This article is simply a collection of my own thoughts and observations based on my experience as a player. It isn't meant to represent the entire community or define how anyone should enjoy the game.
One of the things I appreciate most about the game is that it allows different players to find joy in different ways, and this is just my perspective on why that happens.
