Rhulk had decided to take Khalom on a tour of the gardens. Her climbing all over his torso while he conducted the tour didn't particularly bother him, but it did make some explanations take longer. She kept talking about a friend of hers, one he would probably never meet unless she brought her. It didn't bother him much either. When they reached the flower gardens, she fell quiet. His crest fluttered a bit in pride at the ability to shut her up. It was magnificent.

She crawled into his hand, wanting to get a closer look at a safe distance. He lowered her to see some hyacinth she'd taken interest in. When she'd had her fill, he raised her back up, then pressed his mouthpiece to her side. He'd learnt she appreciated physical affection, and this was the least dangerous he could give.

They'd been training with Nether again. Safer, more tame things. Khalom had wanted to see if Strand and Nether could be combined, and Memory had taken her out to demonstrate why they could never be combined. They were two sides of the same coin, unfortunately. Some, like Memory, had gone too far to ever use the well-defined and woven Strand over the temperamental ferrofluid of Nether. They still had fun figuring out where they were similar and where they differed.

They'd gone up high. Khalom sure did love that grapple. The wind in her hair, the grin on her face as she arced through the air...Memory could watch it for hours. She pulled herself up above Khalom, just to spite her, hanging upside down with a grin. The weight of her hair bounced, rather than fell limp like it used to. It was strange, but welcome. Khalom said something sappy. Memory swung forward to steal a kiss and shut her up.

Rhulk rustles quietly in thought. "...When I watched my father leaving, knowing somewhere inside my chest that he would not return."

Nezarec snickers, then giggles and kicks his feet. "Ohhh, I don't know~ What plagues youuuur nightmares?" He puts his hands underneath his chin, for all intents and purposes grinning like a gossiping schoolgirl.

Hey rhulk how are you liking festival of the lost this year I've seen a lot of guardians around trying to look like you any thoughts?

Of course they'd want to imitate perfection. I have no opinions on this festival otherwise. I'm simply waiting for my agent to get back to me with any and all information uncovered this year.

Memory looks at Khalom with shock for a moment, then scoffs quietly and shakes her head, looking out at the horizon again.

"Nah. Those two ain't got hope left to spend...gave it all up for him. They wouldn't fight him for me." She crosses her arms and frowns. "It's a happy thought, though. Something that'd come up in a fairy tale. Our story ain't that, though. Never was..."

[fireteam-silent]

"I pride myself on seeing the strength in others, and yours can no longer be denied." - @rhulks-legs

Khalom didn't often find herself at a loss for words, but hearing that from Rhulk? Her cheeks darkened to the colour of a rich plum, and she looked away to hide her face.

"Thank you," she said earnestly, running a hand through her hair. She did sometimes mess around with Rhulk, being silly and teasing, but she had learned that there was a time and a place for that with him, and this was not it. "I want to be ready, ya know? For when the-- whatever happens next." She cleared her throat awkwardly. Speaking of the Witness around Rhulk was never a good time.

Rhulk took a breath. He wasn't stupid; he knew what she was referring to. However, he was willing to feign ignorance for his sanity. He gently carded a claw through her hair.

"You've grown into an amazing Hunter, Khalom. I believe you will be ready for what comes."
