PST Saint
If you’re a Treated Crew fan, you’ve definitely heard of the homie, PST Saint. PST Saint is a rapper from Stockholm, Sweden, who has certainly made a name for himself in Chicago. PST states it is not he who chose music but rather, music chose him. At a very young age, Saint developed a very creative mind and was always dabbling in various forms of art. He first began exploring music by producing; he enjoyed creating a distinct sound and vibe by putting together different noises. Soon after, he began writing lyrics as a hobby with no intention of making something of it; feedback from his peers motivated him to decide otherwise. After some time, he started to develop and sense of true enjoyment for writing; there was no better feeling than doing something you liked and actually being good at it.
PST first got involved with Treated Crew in May of 2012 during the Watch the Throne Tour. It’s pretty difficult explaining the full account without being able to share information which was requested not be disclosed so please, bear with me. In short (in order to leave out the explicit details), PST got the opportunity to meet Mike Dean and Mano during their visit to Stockholm for the tour. Saint hadn’t even bought a ticket to the show! While backstage, they began discussing music and PST saw this as an opportunity to present his contributions to the art. Not even after one minute of playing his Styll Freestyle for them, Mano asked him to stop the song. Usually in these cases, one would think they’re about to get shut down but Mano was actually impressed. Mano and Saint then exchanged contact info and made it a point to keep in touch. Saint flew to Chicago for his first time in 2013 in efforts to build a base and strengthen his ties.
Growing up, Saint enjoyed listening to artists such as Eminem, Pac, Snoop Dog, Outkast, and Wu-Tang, to name a few. Saint hopes to someday have the opportunity to work with Jhene Aiko; he admires her talent and the depth in her music. Saint hopes to show people the many sides there is to a story through his music. For example, the impression we get from a drug dealer is that they live fast and glamorously but we hardly ever know how they got to be in the situation they are in. We seldom ask ourselves what causes and negative influeces led them to this point. From the outside looking in, all we often see is money and gold chains but we never stop to think of the inside story. Saint hopes to help us dig a little deeper into each situation and realize things are not always as they seem.
Saint believes his voice is what sets him apart from other rappers. A rapper may have ill patterns and dope delivery but if their voice is not distinct, they’re musical career may not last very long. Saint views himself as a writer and has the ‘Notes’ application on his phone pretty full. With that said, Saint will not record a song if he doesn’t feel it is at it’s full potential. He wants his music to have meaning and substance; not just be a bunch of words and rhymes thrown together. You wont hear him rapping about how much weed he smokes or how many bottles he popped…he’s just not your ‘typical’ rapper.
Saint’s EP “Wild Waves” will be available on Spotify and SoundCloud on October 1st. Make sure you check his track “Nigga Gaiden” on the “Treated Tribe” album. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, do so on iTunes. Also, make sure you attend the Treated Tribe Live Installation on Thursday, September 25th, and support Saint during his first Chicago performance. Tickets are available at these local shops: Saint Alfred, Jugrnaut, Fat Tiger Workshop, and RSVP Gallery (show them some love and cop something nice while you’re there, too.)

Roy French
Interviewed 01/11/14
Who the fuck hasn’t peeped FaceGod yet? Don’t schleep, homies...shit’s ill. With Roy having released his mixtape earlier this month, it was only right he be my first feature of the year; starting my year off right & shit. You may be asking yourself, “What the fuck is a FaceGod?” and/or, “Why did Roy use this as the title for his mixtape?” Basically, day in and day out, Roy finds himself facing the obstacles God puts before him; that’s the more spiritual of the two explanations. The other, well, I think we all know…put a blunt in Roy’s face and I bet that mog will face the whole thang!
When Roy first began his music career, he started off by singing. I know! I can’t imagine a Rap God like Roy singing, either. Ladies, if you catch him on the streets, tell him to break down a lil’ something for you. It wasn’t until some mog dissed Roy on a track that he decided to take up rapping. Homie must’ve thought Roy wouldn’t recover from that one but whatever-his-name-is got shut down when it came to retaliation. Perfect example on how to use your haters as fuel power. A Rap God was born!
Roy explained the majority of his mixtape was created off vibes he was experiencing at the time each track was being drawn out. Each element of his mixtape was thoroughly evaluated; from the production to the features, the artwork to the exposure...all that. When asked about how he decided on the feel for his tape, he simply stated, “I rap about what I know.” Roy’s project has a unique sound and vibe to it; it’s a well rounded mixtape with songs you can kick back and smoke to and also, songs you can blast through your speakers and break your neck to. If you haven’t pressed play yet, you silly. Make sure you stay tuned; Roy plans on dropping videos for iJuug and Tunnel Vision (*The thots begin parallel parking in Roy’s inbox asking, “Can I be in your video?”*). If there’s one thing Roy wants his fans to take away from his mixtape, it’s that they should not limit themselves. People must overcome obstacles and try to experience as much as they can. Do anything and everything!
You may get lucky and catch Roy coolin’ at Iridium a few times out of the week. Iridium Clothing Co. is located on 108 N State St. The store is open from 11 AM to 8 PM, Monday through Saturday, and from 12 PM to 6 PM on Sundays. Make sure you mogs cop a thing or two while you’re in there.
As far as influences go, Roy idolizes moguls such as Lil’ Wayne (old Lil’ Wayne shit, to be exact), Kanye, due to his abstract style, Drake, for his hunger and work ethic, and Kid Cudi, due to the power his music has to make the listener feel certain emotions.
If Roy had the opportunity to work with any successful music symbols, he’d choose Mike Will, Zaytoven, and 40. These producers have made a name for themselves and just when we thought they couldn’t get any better, they continue to bless us with bangers. In short, they cold as fuck!
Roy’s top three favorite albums are Kanye’s Graduation, Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon: The End of Day, and Lil Wayne’s The Carter III.
Once our man gets big, his first splurge will result in a 2002 Cadillac DeVille with a lavender candy paint job, Daytons, and hydraulics. Summer time Chi flexing! Oh, and he’s also buying a boat for yours truly and @FollowFlow. We love you, papi!
You can catch Roy French live at Sub-T located on 2011 W North Ave on February 15, alongside Chris Crack, St. Millie, and Pivot Gang. Get with it and come show your support.

D Win
Interviewed November 22, 2013 (Yes, I know I’m late as hell)
I had the pleasure of meeting D Win at a house party this past summer. I had heard a bit about him and vice versa. He was well aware of my interest in Chicago’s hip hop scene and I was aware he was part of it. Less than ten minutes into our formal introduction, he pulled out his laptop and blessed me with the privileged of peeping some of his latest projects.
D Win began making music to express himself and be able to tell his story through an art form. Making music became therapeutic for him due to the freedom of speech music offers. He was able to get things off his chest without worrying about offending or upsetting anyone. He began by free styling over songs he heard on the radio; he didn’t expect to be as good as he was. D Win realized sports, which he was participating in at the time, were not his calling and he started taking music more seriously.
D Win feels his mother has a lot to do with the work ethic he has developed. His mother raised two children on her own and had to work two or three jobs at all times in order to make due. This motivated D Win to develop a hustler mentality; if he wanted something, he would have to work for it.
D Win idolizes Yeezy due to his talent and creativity. You never know what you’re going to get from Ye; he’s unpredictable and he’s not afraid to take risks. Jay Z is also one of D Win’s role models. He admires his dedication and his timeless career. Not many artists have been in the game as long as HOV and have retained their relevance. Kendrick is also influential in D Win’s career. Kendrick is bringing back lyricism and basing his career on telling stories based on day to day life as a kid from Compton.
If D Win had the opportunity to work with anyone, he would choose Dre. He admires Dre for having been part of creating a new culture. N.W.A. spoke on behalf of an entire community and everyone respected their efforts. Anything Dre touches is gold!
D Win first stepped into the world of music when he dropped his single, “Stupid Fresh.” The hit was featured on MTV Engine Room, the MTVU Woodie Awards, and MTVU Debt Ski. Soon after, D Win and a homie started a Hip Hop duo, The Rocketeers. The duo teamed up with Illroots, Mike Waxx, and DJ O-Zone and released their core project, “Stylish Shoes and Colored Jeans.” They were nominated for an MTVU Woodie Award for Best Music on Campus. In 2011, after D Win had chosen a different route, he dropped his first solo mixtape, “My Ode to Debonair.” Currently, D Win is focusing on promoting and wrapping up his next mixtape, “D Always Wins.”
Through his music, D Win wants people to become conscious of the fact it’s ok to be themselves. People do not have to pretend to be someone else or speak on things they are not personally familiar with. His music only consists of topics he doesn’t have to research; his material comes from day to day life.
D Win believes what sets him apart from other artists is the fact he will take you by surprise. He studies many different genres and experiments with all types of sounds in order to make his music original.
One of his favorite albums is Jay Z’s The Black Album. It was perfect! Everything from the videos and the tour to the documentary and the production…it was all simply perfect. D Win also enjoys James Blake’s Retrograde due to the entire vibe of the album and the sick visuals that went along with it. Yeezy’s 808s & Heartbreak is also one of his favorites. Kanye created a new sound with this album; a sound no one was expecting from him but yet, everyone embraced.
When asked what he would do once he came up, D Win simply responded with, “Get my mother right!”

Mickey Mike Monday
Interviewed November 1, 2013 I first heard of Mike through a mutual friend and from there, had the privilege to meet him as a person rather than an artist. Aside from being an ill dude, his artistic abilities are quite impressive. Mike was first introduced to creative arts by his mother who enrolled him in activities such as art, choir, dance, modeling, and acting. As he grew older, Mike realized his mother did this in efforts to keep him out the hood which can be difficult due to the environment in the South Side jungle. Through these creative courses, Mike found music to be his strong suit. Mike explained being diagnosed with ADD and ADHD (don't we all got that shit?) which allows him to view things from a different perspective; a more intense perspective which has aided him in his craft. Mike chose his name for several reasons. Mickey is used as in Mickey Mouse, who is known to be the king of cartoons. This reminds Mike to be the greatest he can be. Monday, being the start of the week, is the beginning of something new and is also known as grind time. Mickey Munday is a former cocaine dealer and associate of Colombia's Medellin Cartel. Munday conducted a well thought out plan many times in order to deliver the much anticipated product. Mike states, "I'm going to give you what you want but my execution and delivery is going to be much more effective." Even though Kanye West reached stardom long ago, Mike is still able to relate to him which makes his goals seem more attainable. Kanye grew up on 79th and May while Mike grew up on 79th and Dorchester. Kanye paved the way for many Chicago youths and motivated them to pursue to accomplish more than what seems "realistic." Chance the Rapper also fits this category; plenty of young men and women look up to him for doing what he does and doing it his way. Mike also creates music for himself; he is the artist and his music is his work of art. If you enjoy his music, great. If you don't, he still does. None of these artists care about trends; they care about creating something that's worth it to them. Mike also explained the reason he does not put music out very often is because he likes to perfect everything he does. He explained this using a fashion metaphor: If I was Marc Jacobs and I was preparing for a runway show, I would use my 12 best pieces...not some weak ass jeans and a T-shirt. Through his music, Mike wishes for the public to stop seeing Chicago in a bad light. He also wishes to teach his listeners to plant goals in their minds and realized they are attainable. As long as you have the right mind, you can accomplish anything. As he stated, "Hell yeah, I'm going to rap about a Maserati because I'm going to be driving that bitch one day." If Mike had the opportunity to work with anyone, he would work with Will.i.am and Cee Lo Green due to their mind blowing talent. Especially, Will.i.am; he's a musical genius. Top three favorite albums: Andre 3000's The Love Below West's Graduation Drake's Take Care @mickeymonday IG mickeymonday [email protected] threemmm.tumblr.com
Ye Ali
Interviewed November 6, 2013
I first came across Ye Ali while researching Lyfe Harris. Ali’s voice was very intriguing and I soon discovered I had closer ties to him than I would have imagined. Once I started following him on social networks, I came to find we had a handful of mutual acquaintances. I needed to know more!
Ye Ali began making music as an outlet to relieve his frustrations. Unlike most other kids, Ye Ali didn’t find much interest in sports and school was a bore. Making music became therapeutic for Ye Ali.
Ali’s father has been the most influential person in his career. His father is an accomplished writer and poet who greatly encouraged Ali to master his craft. Ali’s father enrolled him in activities such as drama, choir, and band as a young child and Ali continued these activities throughout high school. His father also provided the funds for Ali’s studio time; investing towards his retirement!
Ye Ali admires Future. He stated he sees Future as the most talented artist he has encountered in a very long time. Future can effortlessly create trap music and integrate R&B into it; something that doesn’t come easy. Ali also idolizes Jodeci and Sade due to their R&B ambience.
If Ali had the opportunity to work with anyone, he would choose Pharrell, Erykah Badu, and Rick Ross. Pharrell’s skills as a producer are impeccable. Erykah Badu is Ali’s dream woman; he admires her fearlessness. Rick Ross’ work ethic is unmatched.
Ye Ali has no official release dates in regards to his solo project although, his official album is due at the end of this month, titled ArtxDrugs. He is featured on Lyfe Harris’ two albums, DYSPHORIA and Watch You Dream 2.
Through his music, Ali intends to convey his life experiences which include encounters with women, work, and tragedy. Ali believes in writing about what he knows. Whether he is writing for himself or another artist, his goal is to capture brutal honesty and allow the listener to connect with the artist.
When asked what sets him apart from other artists, he stated his sound is different. Ali raps, produces, and sings. Ali has gotten comparisons to The Weeknd and Drake but he believes these comparisons are way off. Once you listen to Ali, you will notice his depth; he’s original and his music is honest. It sounds good, it makes sense, and it’s relatable.
Ali’s top three favorite albums include Blink 182’s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, Quincy Jones’ From Q, with Love and Lyfe Harris’ Watch You Dream 2. Ali enjoys listening to rock music and Blink 182 was the first band he identified with. Ali believes Quincy compiled the most beautiful CD ever; I think we can all agree. Lyfe Harris is simply ahead of his time!
Once Ali comes up, he plans on paying off his loans and any debt his father may have incurred. Once that is taken care of, Ali plans to purchase a fully equipped studio in LA.

CIG$
Interviewed October 28, 2013
When I first started this project, I didn’t think it would turn out to be much. I thought of it as a hobby; something to do in my spare time. With that being said, I was stoked to discover my site had reached a certain someone in the East Coast. Michael Gilbert, a videographer from New Jersey, began tweeting me his latest creations and I was immediately drawn to his individuality.
Gilbert, better known as CIG$, chose his title due to several reasons. His name serves as an acronym for Child in the Garden State (ya’ll mogs probably don’t even understand the correlation…GOOGLE THAT SHIT). He’s from “The Garden State” so you already know he loves plants, nahhh mean? Homie smokes them like cigarettes! Creative label, if you ask me.
CIG$ began filming during the summer of 2012, when a friend of his, @LeekStCloud, needed someone to shoot a music video in efforts to build anticipation for his then, upcoming mixtape. From then on, CIG$ fell in love with the idea of capturing memories and turning them into a work of art. He became addicted to every element: directing, shooting, editing, etc.
CIG$ soon started developing a simple and efficient process. When given a song to shoot a video for, CIG$ listens to the track several times in efforts to capture the energy and aura of the song. Based off something as simple as the feeling he develops from listening to the track, he begins visualizing and gaining a concept for the video. It’s all a matter of execution from there.
CIG$ began his own production company, Vintage Modern. His main goal is to evoke emotion through his videos. He uses unique colors and angles in each one of his projects. His videos hold a vintage feel with modern elements. Nothing about his videos is ever expected; there’s always something different. Vintage Modern, it’s more than a brand!
CIG$ has been drawn to many music videos including Kendrick’s ADHD due to its simplicity and relatable concept. Lil Scrappy’s Livin’ in the Projects is also one of his favorites. The video gives each viewer an inside look on what living in the projects is like on a day to day basis. CIG$ also pointed out some shots in the video that hit home such as the cat licking the gas leak from the Cadillac; things that may not mean much to a regular degular mog. J. Cole’s Crooked Smile is also mentionable due to the message it depicts; it’s all about the principle of relation.
If CIG$ had the opportunity to shoot for any artist, he’d select Action Bronson due to his insane creativity. CIG$ has watched many of Bronson’s interviews and has been intrigued by each concept and story behind Bronson’s videos.
CIG$ plans to become more skilled in his craft by attending the New York Film Academy come Spring 2014.
Let the homie know if you’re ever on the East Coast and need a visual!

Jake Osmun
Interviewed 10.11.13
Social networks are by far, the most efficient tools when it comes to exposing a craft. When I came across Jake Osmun’s accounts and checked out some of the videos he created, I knew this was someone I wanted to work with and learn more about.
Jake began his career due to his desire to positively affect people by doing something he enjoys. He treasures memories and what better way to hold on to them than to capture them? He defined music videos as collaborative projects. He stated that when a passionate artist has put all of their time and effort into a creation, he is drawn to the idea of adding life to that creation. He describes this as two art forms joining together.
Jake decided to move to Chicago about two months ago because he was intrigued by its charm and its reputation in the hip-hop community. He appreciates the fact that everyone in Chicago is connected one way or another and supports each other. He also expressed his admiration of the talent Chicagoans possess and their hustler mindsets.
Jake hopes for the opportunity to work with several Chicago artists including Taylor Bennett and Martin $ky. He feels these individuals possess the total package and values their methods of promoting and marketing themselves.
If Jake was able to work with anyone, he would go with Kendrick Lamar due to the fact his music is so powerful. He feels applying a visual to one of Kendrick’s songs and portraying the reality of that song would put it over the top. Mac Miller would also be on his list; Jake has been a fan since the very beginning and he admires Miller’s work ethic.
When artists reach out to Jake for a shoot, he first listens to the track repeatedly in order to generate a vibe. He then likes to meet with the artist and go over ideas to produce a vision. He proceeds to draft treatments and decide on locations to shoot at. By assessing the locations, he determines what shots he would like to include in the video. It all pretty much flows from there.
Jake has a project he currently has on hiatus called Untitled Visual Group. Basically, the idea behind it is to gather a group of creative minds and produce dope shit such as videos, a magazine, a blog, etc. The reason he named the project Untitled is very philosophical. Think of “untitled” as a blank canvas. Our memories and the experiences we have encountered shape the way we think and the perceptions we have of ourselves, other people, society, and the world. The title “untitled” has everything to do with the journey of learning and experiencing new things and painting your own canvas.
Notable artists Jake has worked with include King Los, Cory Gunz, Futuristic, and Phreshy Duzit.
The 18-year-old Arizona native currently holds a position as director and editor with Elevator.

Nick Junior
Interviewed 10.04.13
If you remember Nick-N-Beans, you obviously remember Nick Junior. Yeah, that light-skinned mog with the big hair! Nick happens to be a good friend of mine and one of the first people who encouraged me to write. For years, Nick’s music has traveled throughout Chicago and he’s only getting better.
Nick grew up listening to artists such as Al Green, Biggie, Heavy D, Wu-Tang, etc. His passion for music was first inspired by his grandfather, who was a trumpet player in B.B. King’s band. Self-explanatory. At an early age, Nick began using music as a gateway and quickly, he became addicted to the craft.
Nick began his music career through free styling but after family members began encouraging him to write, he noticed his music would hold more substance if he did so. Writing helped Nick build concepts and structure in his music.
Mike 100s has been a huge influence when it comes to Nick’s music career. Mike helped him grow into the artist he is; he helped Nick develop his style and taught him how to properly articulate his words. Good coach, if you ask me! Vic Lloyd served as a mentor and set Nick straight when necessary. He helped Nick learn how to shut out disbelief and negativity, not only from the public but also from himself. Baines also motivated and pushed Nick which helped him develop a more efficient work ethic. Without these key characters, Nick would not have accomplished nearly as much as he has.
Nick is currently working on several projects which include a street wear line which he and his partner, Poitier for Hire, named Bum Billionaire. The line is also used as a marketing tool to promote their music. Keep an eye out…Nick promises it’s some hot shit! Nick’s upcoming musical projects include To Be Continued and Junior’s EP, which he worked on with producers such as VSLU, Mano, and Fresco, among others. His upcoming music videos include Thank You, Kendrick and Hollyhood.
Through his music, Nick wants to prove to people that no matter how difficult one’s struggle may be, there’s always a way to get though it. Nick takes experiences from his own life, his family and friends, the news, and the street and makes a story of it all for us to listen to and learn from.
When I asked Nick what his first purchase after coming up would be, he simply stated, “I gotta make sure my license straight. Gotta pay that bullshit off!” LMAO, too real!
If Nick could work with anyone, he would choose to work with Kendrick due to his insane lyrical abilities.
Nick’s top three favorite albums are Illmatic, The Blueprint, and Ready to Die.
When asked about the make-up and break-up of Nick-N-Beans, Nick made no comment.
Shout out to Forever True Music Group and Treated Crew.
