“Oh, thank you.” Ophelia looked down at her dress swaying lightly. His compliment sounded genuine and she couldn’t help but smile. “I’m glad you’re having fun, you should ask her to dance with you, it is a dance after-all, girls like being asked to dance, or at least I do.” she rambled. “Uh Carter? probably off flirting and annoying Evelyn if I had to guess.” she shrugged. “we kind of got separated after taking pictures, it happens.” Ophelia let out a laugh. “Carter and I have been friends for a long time this is pretty normal, i’m sure we’ll meet back up at some point.” She wasn’t exactly sure why but she didn’t want Rhys thinking Carter was her boyfriend or that she was romantically interested in the redhead but she felt the need to get her point across. “So you like Ava huh…are you going to ask her out on a date that you’re not surrounded by the school?”
“ WELCOME,” rhys replied, the words leaving his lips with a smile that matched ophelia’s. “oh, yeah. i mean, i planned on it... i don’t think i’ve ever really danced with a girl, though. at least i can’t remember if i have. which seems like something i’d remember...” his words trailed off as he realized he’d been oversharing. his curls bounced lightly as he nodded, acknowledging her decision to come with carter as friends that sounded very similar to the circumstances of himself and ava, although he wasn’t sure what the whole thing meant. “oh, i don’t know. she’s gorgeous, that’s for sure. probably out of my league. but i’m not sure i did a great job of asking her to the dance. i wasn’t exactly sure how to word it... but she said yes. so, that’s a good sign, i guess. i don’t know if it’s, like, just as friends or what. i think i’d have to figure that out before i decide to ask her on a date.” he paused, inhaling deeply. “would you wanna dance with me?” he attempted to avoid eye contact as much as he could with his question. “i could use a trial run... before our dates track us down again.”
