it had been quite a while since she had properly spoken to cleo. which at first didn’t seem to bother callie, but as time went on there it stuck there in the back of her mind. she managed to gather to guts to finally talk to her and rather than texting her, she went to the one place she knew that she would hopefully be at. just as she walked into the room, her eyes scanned the bar for cleo. once she found her head of brown hair, callie sucked in a breath. ‘ hi. ’, she called out, placing both of her hands on the bar. ‘ do you have time to chat for a bit ? ’, callie added.

hearing someone come up to the bar, cleo turned from where she’d been restocking the beer fridge. seeing callie, her eyes glanced behind the blonde, almost expecting to see the rest of the sloth in her company. but to her surprise, the girl was alone. she couldn’t remember the last time the two of them were alone without everyone else around. it was a bit odd, but cleo tried not to think much of it. flashing a smile at the other, she greeted, “hey. just you today?” her brows raised slightly at callie’s question before scanning the mostly empty bar. “sure, ya. it’s pretty dead right now. what’s up?”

kieran had just go off the phone with his father, another conversation that dealt mostly with how things were going even though they’d barely begun. the boy knew better, his father was looking for the simple excuse to ask him about cleo. his parents loved cleo, both of them, it was no surprise to him since they’d been planning his wedding to her for years, but mostly he’d been trying to ignore it until he got to school so he could ignore them. he walked down the stairs from his room into the common room and came face to face with the girl herself. “how’d you know to be here right this second?” he laughed.

surprisingly, cleo had looked forward to returning to hogwarts after the summer break. for one, she actually enjoyed her classes. but more than that, it meant getting away from her family, who had gotten even more insufferable, if that was possible. the older she got, the more pressure her dad put on her about her future and somehow he’d gotten it in his head that that included kieran rhodes. all summer, it’d been ‘kieran this’, ‘kieran that’, and ‘when you marry kieran’. so, cleo was grateful to finally be back at school, where she didn’t have to grin and bear anymore of her dad’s nonsense. but that also meant having to see kieran everyday now and she wasn’t sure if that was any better. walking into the common room just as kieran came down the stairs, she replied deadpan, “i dunno, it’s not like i live here or anything.” shedding her robe, cleo observed, “you look like you’re in a good mood. did you hear about the hot new transfer, or something?”

roman sat down at the slytherin table with quite some drama, sighing and almost knocking over a goblet of pumpkin juice, which he could just grab before it spilled out onto the table. ‘so… cleo.’ he said, when he finally had settled down, ‘are we still on for studying later because i just showed rumor my potions homework and she told me it was shit so clearly i need some help.’

cleo barely flinched at the ruckus caused by roman’s arrival, only moving to grab her arithmancy textbook off the table in case of a spill. luckily it didn’t happen, thanks to the other’s surprisingly quick reflexes. “so, roman,” she echoed, bringing her textbook down on the table. “well, if rumor said it was shit, then it must’ve been really bad,” she teased lightly. nodding, she asked, “same spot after classes? i can show you some of the notes i made for the next chapter too, if you want.”

‘alright i’m here. yes, i’m late but i’m here, that’s what counts.’ roman immediately blurted out when cleo opened her front door. even though things had been going pretty well between the two of them, roman could never not be at least a little intimidated by cleo. the problem was that when roman felt uncomfortable, he tended to ramble even more than usual. however, he tried to cut that down to a minimum, offering an apologetic smile instead now. ‘please still teach me some french?’

hearing the doorbell ring, cleo briefly contemplated on not answering it. she tells herself it’s because she has little tolerance for tardiness, but in reality, she’d thought that roman had for whatever reason stood her up. but then she realizes how ridiculous that is because 1) she’s pretty sure no one had the guts to blow her off, and 2) well, here he was, standing outside. an irritated sigh escapes her lips as she pulls the door open, not bothering to hide the scowl on her face. “should i teach you how to tell time while we’re at it?” she asks instead, leading the other into the chalet she shared with matias. “you’re lucky i’m not making you pay for my time.”

it was spring time, sometimes referred to the season of love. and charlotte was single. so naturally, she was drunk. it was after drinking far too many beers and wines at the fair. it was safe to say that charlotte had had at least five drinks by the time she wound up in the bathroom, splashing her face with water. as much as she loved spring and love, sometimes it just felt lonely. she wanted to be in love again so deeply, but it seemed like that wasn’t going to happen for her at the moment. she had tried to escape by watching her favorite romantic comedies and getting involved in other people’s love lives, but deep down she knew she was just covering up how lonely she was, and that those movies and her meddling were reminders of what she didn’t have anymore. she grabbed the sides of the sink to get her balance, but she lost her balance just a bit and ended up accidentally bumping into cleo. great, charlotte thought internally, now i have to deal with cleo being mad that i bumped into her.

taking a deep breath, the blonde turned to the other and said, “hey, i’m sorry, i lost my balance.” she ran her fingers through her hair, hoping cleo wouldn’t get too angry with her. she had chewed charlotte out for less in the past. “too many drinks, but hey, happy spring, right?” the words she spoke seemed positive but there seemed to be a little crack in her voice that suggested otherwise.

it was cleo’s first time celebrating springfest in a long time, with the last being when she was just about to finish high school. she tried not to think about it, or more specifically, think about who she’d spent that week with years ago. reminiscing on the good times was a dangerous downward spiral and cleo ortiz did not spiral. no breakup and no guy was going to change that. she told herself that all the late-night partying and drinking copious amounts of alcohol when the sun was still high in the sky were all a part of celebrating springfest. she was single now ( not that she’d really told anyone yet ), so there was no reason to hold back. out with the old and in with the new – that was what springfest was all about, right?

except the new seemed to all be obnoxious frat dudes with insufferable egos, which explained why cleo had taken refuge in the bathroom. looking up into the mirror at her own reflection, she couldn’t help but think about how sad and utterly pathetic this felt. letting out a deep sigh, she reached into her bag to dig out her lipstick when she felt someone colliding into her. her features quickly twisted into a scowl, as she snapped, “fucking hell – watch it!” rolling her eyes upon recognizing the blonde, cleo goes back to searching through her bag. “ya? try a little harder to sound like you mean it,” scoffing a little at charlotte’s words. “you know, drunk crying in the bathroom in the middle of springfest – or ever – isn’t a cute look.”

coming right from a boozy brunch, a very tipsy aylie and cleo somehow got the bright idea to go to the cookie decorating event. mostly because the cookies sounded too good to pass up. “they’re not gonna make us bake the cookies first, are they?” she asked, pulling a face at the thought of the two of them attempting to bake in their current state. cleo rarely stepped foot into the kitchen to cook, let alone to do any sort of baking. but then again, how hard could it be? “no, you know what? fuck that. if kieran can do it, then so can we,” said full of determination, as she rolled up her sleeves.
