Unit X - Publishing - Research - The inspiration of Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs for Cosmos magazines content page:
The idea behind Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs began in 1943 when he realizes that in life, people have different ways to possess motivation in order to achieve their goals in what they do. Moreover, without any hesitation, he quotes how people should able to achieve their target by using motivation approach: “people are motivated to achieve certain needs. When one need is fulfilled a person seeks to accomplish the next one, and so on.” Therefore, without hesitation, he began to develop the theory on hierarchy of needs by creating a triangular shape model of five stages divided into three main morals with emotions each, which define a particular definition to influence people on their act of motivation. That principle alone can relate to the summary of collections, which the magazine has variety of images/photos with different topics and genres that be placed in categories for readers to search which motivational needs fits their ability to check it out. The three morals within definition of emotions displayed for everyone to relate are:
Basic needs: Physiological – E.g. Safety, love, stimulation, activity and esteem
Growth needs: Self-actualization – E.g. purpose, personal growth, functioning, and potential
Social needs: Belongings – bonding, caring, love, friendship, intimacy, and affection
As you see theory of Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, this gives me a proposal of creating a cosmic collection hierarchy that will defiantly present in the content page, showing areas of rules, belief and positions that readers can choose to look at. In addition, it would give readers opportunities to choose one area from the theory, to view the artists’ artwork in particular page with imperative details that can enhance them to finally find their identity of a purpose that they must fulfil to have self-esteem and value. The layout of cosmic collection hierarchy will include four rotated squares (which the shape in Hierarchy of needs is triangle) with classifications that characterise a theme of each artists’ design work/photos in the magazine that provides readers aid to be able to reflect themselves in search of who they are in the real world. The cosmic collection hierarchy and its classifications here:
Law – E.g. politics, social awareness, news, and philosophy, etc.
Culture – E.g. values of life; social and custom behaviors, geography, education, and travel
Confession – E.g. Secrets behind the artists’ designs, problem solving in art, and deep study of art and photography
Lifestyle – E.g. Social, morals, health, equal balance, relationships, or behavior traits, etc.
Each of these five classifications within examples defining the act can be an excellent category for each article in the magazine to be placed, because it will create an easier access for readers to find certain acts in this theory to view the content that meet their needs to improve their way of living, psychological mindsets and increase knowledge of art and design in all areas. Another idea that will be beneficial for readers to know each classification for the article in magazine is a tag, where you’ll turn the pages to the content of your choice; let’s say you want to read about the science of optical illusion for confession you can turn the page to the exact content and there will be a tag of ‘confession’ on the top left to inform you that this deals with the study of art or subliminal secret of arts, etc.
