From May 16-17, I'll be hosting a Booth at the 13th edition of "ComicArtLIVE"! (a "virtual" convention for the Original Art collecting community) and selling some of my own artwork. Another 1/1 personal sketch card that I finished late last night.. This time, it's Marvel Comics' MAN-THING!! (aka. Dr. Theodore "Ted" Sallis).. This card was really about finding out whether I could effectively feature a character in full-figure pose in a genuine location/setting, on the tiny canvas of a sketch card?! I'll admit that the inked drawing looked rather busy/noisy. But when I added the color on top, all the elements began to find their own space? On to the next..

Another 1-of-1 personal sketch card that I did for my portfolio.. This time, it's: "Johnny Blaze" aka. Marvel Comics' GHOST RIDER!! Such a badass design, it was hard not to really enjoy working on this one! Drawn and inked on 2-ply bristol board. Then colored, using ohuhu markers and colerase pencils.. Unfortunately, I had to trim part of GH's arm off so that the card would fit into a TopLoader sleeve..

Another 1/1 Personal Sketch Card experiment! This time the character I chose was: "Wanda Maximoff" - Marvel Comics' own SCARLET WITCH!! I like the way it turned out. Especially, her eyes and face.. The only part that surprised me was that the alcohol markers bled thru the 2-ply bristol board? I'm gonna have to get some 3-ply for the next card project!

Another sketch card that I finished.. "The Mighty THOR"!! Went with the classic Kirby model. This time, I was a little more careful about how I laid down my marker base coat, and was able to avoid any smearing of the ink lines! Then, a few layers of pencil crayons to help define the forms..

Who didn't enjoy reading The NEW MUTANTS comic-books in the early-1980s? That was my first introduction to the MAGIK character.

I can tell that she's experiencing renewed popularity with fans and collectors.. So, I thought I'd take a crack at drawing her! Began with a drawing of actress Anya Taylor-Joy (who played MAGIK in the NEW MUTANTS film) that just wasn't working out..

After transferring the basics to a bristol board, I began adjusting her proportions and coming up with a Setting that seemed appropriate? I like most of the results. But the process was more "organic" than I normally like to work. It's just too "busy" for my liking. My fault for not coming up with a decent Prelim beforehand..

A recent art commission I finished for Chris D, a fellow living in Seminole, Florida.. Chris has a "Captain America Annual #8 Tribute" Gallery on his ComicArtFans page, where he's invited artists to create homages to/interpretations of: Mike Zeck's famed 1986 CAPTAIN AMERICA Annual #8 comic-book cover! The characters can change, but the overall Layout/Staging needs to be adhered to.. A tricky exercise, but fun to work on!

He asked me to do a very Kirby-esque battle between CAP and "TEN-FOR", a villain from Kirby's MACHINE MAN comics. I added an ersatz Cosmic Mace to ensure that a lot of Kirby Krackle was being sprayed around!

Lately, I've been interested in seeing whether I could do original art "Sketch Cards"? This is my 1st attempt. I chose to draw the 3 GhouLunatics from EC Comics fame! The cards are roughly 2.5" x 3.5" in size.. Drawing (and inking) smaller wasn't an issue. But I still feel like I've got lessons to learn on the coloring end.. I need to buy some decent markers! In the end, I went with my tried-and-true layered pencil crayon method..

36 years ago,– I did some of the Layouts at Nelvana for the animated BEETLEJUICE episode, entitled: “Pest Of The West”! I think it was maybe in the 1st Season or so, of the series? Dug out my old model sheets and gave the characters another go.. Digital colors are my best approximation. Here's BEETLEJUICE vs. BILLY the CRUD!!

Took a crack at drawing "Hannah Dundee" and "Jack Tenrec" from the animated 'CADILLACS And DINOSAURS' cartoon series. I worked as a Designer on the show, back in the early 90's.. But I never got to draw any of the characters. Just got to do Location Designs and the occasional Prop? These are based on the original model sheets which I still own..

I knew I would have to commit to taking a crack at the Day 29 prompt for this month's PULPTOBER.. Dave Stevens is probably my favorite artist after Frazetta. And I was lucky enough to get to know Dave and call him a "Friend", before he passed away in 2008. In hindsight, I realize now that he was exceedingly kind and generous with me. So, I definitely wanted to do justice to a Pinup of the character he created and made famous!!

Dipping my toe into this month's PULPTOBER.. I've never been fast enough to tackle each Day's prompt.. But couldn't resist attempting the Day 23 prompt: Harvey Comics' classic "BLACK CAT" character! Here she is.. "Linda Turner -- Hollywood's Most Glamorous Crime Fighter!!"

Haven't been drawing - inking - coloring (or Posting) in quite some time now.. So, here's BEETLEJUICE in one of his classic poses!

When I published my sketchbook in 2003, I was invited to table at a few local Toronto comic-book conventions. I had a standing offer that if a customer paid a bit extra, he/she could get a finished drawing from me. Chris C of Hamilton took up the offer and asked for "Hannah Dundee" after I told him that I'd worked on the Nelvana cartoon.. Last night, I fixed a copy of his drawing in Photoshop and added some digital color. The hair is clearly over-done, but overall I still like the drawing!

20 years ago, I self-published my sketchbook: “Wang-Dang-Doodle!” This was the drawing I used for the cover art.. Recently, I agreed to sell the drawing to a local Original Art collector/friend.. So, I thought I’d better make some decent scans of it, first. Hard for me to believe how quickly all of that time has passed!
